Yes that sums it up for me.... Did they know the Colts released a Guard... The Yorkers could not jump all over that because why ? They are incapable of running an NFL franchise and David Carr is a better idea to them. Why not go for the trifecta and go with Akali Smith. Nice Job meatheads, however I should not get my hopes up with this franchise anymore.

Who knows maybe they will go after Guards after all..... See there I go again with my hopes again.

Just because the Colts released him doesn't mean he's an awesome guard. Lilja was decent in pass pro, but was only due 1.7mm and still cut, so it probably means they will look to draft for an updrade at a much better price (like we should be doing) If he was really solid, they would have tried to get something for him, like a draft pick.

The book on him is that he is a poor run blocker, something the niners aren't going to go after

OK...I just don't get that attitude anymore.

The Niners made huge contract signings in the past few years with Nate Clements and Justin Smith. What the hell are you talking about?

Yah but those dudes were not game changers.

what FAs this year are game changers

Thank You.

MAYBE Peppers, but he is NOT worth the money.

lol..susweel always leaves the convo when he doesn't know what to say
I will be if we give up a second for leon washington.
Some are acting so suprised, when we have all known this year would be quiet during FA. Reporters and the forums have been flooded since the season ended saying that "don't expect much in FA", yet people are still expecting sooo much.

We should thank Madden for all of the GM's present on the zone!

NO! Not at all.

To be straight, the NFL network panel said the winners so far are the teams who haven't done anything!

90% of the suggested FA moves made by us, so-called fans, are "pound foolish!".

ARIZ
I was happy when Warner retired and even more happy when Rolle Dansby and Boldin left but now they actually were ACTIVE in FA by replacing their S with an almost as good S, and looks like Porter will be an upgrade or at least the same as Dansby.

SEA
It looks like they might get Marshall and now Watson (not such a big deal), and they will even have a chance at T Jones if he doesn't sign with the Chiefs.

This is not cool. Our GM needs to counter the balance in the division by at least competing with some of these FA's. I'm not saying sign these same FA's because we have better players at some of these positions but competing in FA to improve our team. At least try to get a LT or RT that is PROVEN like Gathers or Guard on IND maybe. Also, to improve in the KR/PR game Washington would be a great signing, again a PROVEN talent whose leg will heal most probably before the season.

The Niners could take a chance on a rookie through the draft and we will but whenb their is proven talent that will materialize immediately rather than waiting to see IF a rookie will do well is a good way to improve this team.....especially since SEA and ARIZ are getting better.

What do you think? I really like a LT or RT before the draft and Washington as a pr/kr for a pick.

BTW...I have to make a point here on this "proven talent" argument. I'm had many discussions on this one and I think that term is WAY overused.

If the players available in Free Agency are so "proven", then why are they Free Agents at all? Why did their teams let them go? For god sake, Antrel Rolle just became the highest paid safety in NFL history!! ANTREL ROLLE!?!

To me, Free Agents more often than not are Fools Gold and almost never live up to their billing.

You also very seldom get a shot at a perenial all-pro (see Willis, Patrick).

Give me a bunch of draft picks and let FAs be damned. ;-)

The fact is that Marvin is right. More often than not, free agents are not worth it.

I wouldn't say not worth it, Justin Smith (Pro Bowl), Walt Harris (Pro Bowl), Nate Clements, Michael Lewis, Larry Allen (Pro Bowl), have all been pretty serviceable for us. Shoot even Barry Sims made an impact for us last year.

But have any of them gotten us a division championship yet?

Just saying.

Smith has been awesome, Harris better than expected, Lewis so-so, and Clements okay.

But as real difference makers, Free Agents are more often the exception than the rule.
Last year, the Colts and Saints didn't sign anyone in the first few days of free agency. The year before that, the Steelers and Cardinals didn't sign anyone in the first few days of free agency. Good teams that build through the draft to get better don't need to spend a bunch of money on over priced mediocre players.

Why go out and spend money for the sake of spending?? This year's FA market is horrible and nobody, including Peppers, is worth the money. His lazy ass is going to be in cruise control for another 2 years and then bail. Look at his attitude with the Panthers.

As far as addressing the Tackle or KR need that we have.... I would much rather take a chance on a young kid in a draft that is extremely deep in both positions, than go out and sign someone (at a much higher price) who would also be a risk. Proven or not, no player is a guarantee in this league.

McG is taking the correct approach in not going crazy in FA and building through the draft. He has managed to get us 2 1st round picks 3 of the last 5 drafts!!! All of the guys he has chose, except maybe Balmer, are starters or impact players (Lawson).

Take a chill pill and trust the guy... Or at least wait until the season begins and judge him if you dont agree with how he dealt with the needs at these positions.

I think some of you want players signed just for the sake of it. You don't consider how crazy the money that Rolle or Peppers just signed for. Or that the rest of the FA players are crap.
You just want us to sign somebody!... Now!

That is probably true.... I just wish they would do something about the Guard situation it is just too frustraiting to keep saying year after year "If we just had 2 Guards and a Tackle we would be in the playoffs." I think we should take a look at anyone over Bass and get someone to push Rachael. The reason we did not make the playoffs was the O Line period.
