All he said was if the 49ers thought there was a guy who was thier QB of the future they would take him. Of course they would. Any team would take a guy who they thought was thier QB of the future if THEY THOUGHT HE WAS THIER QB OF THE FUTURE. So I say NO SH*T Charlie. Anything else you want to tell us captain obvious?

DRAFT CJ SPILLER!!!!!!!!!

Lets see how this season goes if we do bad and smith's contract is up grab a qb i would like to see them address some of there bigger issues like helping out the o-line. I'm not a smith fan but he is a serviceable qb for now

I think this draft is deep in QBs, I like the kid from Oregon State, in about the 4-5th round.

Next year I would like to see this:
1) A. Smith
2) N. Davis
3) A. Quality Rookie!

I wouldn't be opposed to this.

Well smith's contract is up after the upcoming season so he should be more than motivated to perform well let's pray it happens

Smith! you're being watched; so time to prove your keeps!
I get a vibe that we're going to shore up on 'need' positions, and find a lucrative way to put down the bank for Jake Locker in next year's draft. If we tool our o-line this season we'll in the the type of position winning teams are in to give a rookie QB a fresh chance at a promising career (like the Jets did before putting the bank down to obtain Sanchez, after tooling the o-line with veterans and pro-bowlers 1-2 years previous).

your 1400 post is genius. Im so sick about hearing "draft a qb and a rb in the first round!" OT and S would really get things solid. Why put another rookie qb behind a terrible line
Some of you guys sound as if you believe that improving the OL will not result in better performance from Alex. You also seem to dismiss any chance of marked improvement as a result of having all offseason to build experience throwing to Crabtree, Morgan and Davis. That seems to be ignoring too much.

IMO Clausen is the best QB in the draft.

Uhmmmm possibly. But if you want to run the Spread(which it clearly looks like our team wants to) then you would want Either McCoy or Tebow. I would say McCoy would be the guy(IF WE WERE TO DRAFT ONE EARLY), but then we would be sticking a fork in either Davis or Hill. Hill would more likely be the guy that got the axe since he doesn't have the arm(same reason Tebow should not be chosen by this team) and we can't afford to go back to the 1'ft and a cloud of dust mentality this team adopted before going into the season.

So then Hill gone and say we got McCoy(*or Clausen) what do we do with Davis? Cause imho, no way either of them crack the starting job this coming season. What happens if Smith has a REEEEEEAALLY good season? Odds are he will considering the amount of weapons he now has and Solari and Ray Ray rebuild the Line well enough to give him some protection up front.

I'm not against drafting a QB, but that mutha better be the next freakin Montana or Young. Or heads will roll.

This is the Zone. Since when have you seen the majority have faith in anyone for longer than a week? It leads one to believe that A.D.D. is a requirement for being a member. The only thing that gets some people around here to focus is a target they can rip for a bad season.

K. Harris
Arnaz Battle
Alex Smith
Garcia
Stokes(I admit I'm no great fan of Chokesalot)
Several Defensive personnel, nevermind the rules have favored the Offense for a LONG time.

To the author of this thread...

Of course SOMEBODY agrees with you. Isn't that to be expected when you have a QB controversy not even 6 games into a losing season? But lets see didn't Cass draft Carr and didn't Carr fail because he had NO protection? Fokk Casserly. He epically failed Carr. He has no room to talk.

I think that our team should NOT draft one until all other needs have been addressed.

1 or 2 (depending). Tackle (If Sims gets LT and Staley RT, we'll need a guy to take over for Sims when he leaves or a guy that can get game time experience should an injury occur. Can never have too many Tackles.

1 or 2 (depending). Return man. Give Shotzy some thing to work with. This team NEEDS their Desmond Howard. Badly. Especially since our braniac GM decided to cut Rossum. If that was such a huge no brainer, why the hell didn't they have a competition in Training Camp for the man's replacement?

3. Another Corner. We have a pretty solid Core group. But same rule applies can never have too many.

4. Strong Safety. this can be swapped with 3 since we have alot of 1st day picks. If someone should drop to us at the next spot then by all means swap the order. But have a fall back in case they don't make it.

down at the bottom of my list? QB. That's after ALL OTHER needs have been met. Period, finito, fine, kaput, end of application clause. I cannot believe that people are so set to replace Smith that they don't give a crap about all the other issues. FIX THOSE FIRST and then lets see where we are at if and when Smith finishes the season.

We tried it your way when Nolan was hired. He chose a QB. Instead of a Receiver and the Linemen chosen were not put in a place to be successful. I mean c'mon Sims was a freakin stud at LT. Who knew right? but there has to be a point and time when SOMEBODY says enough is enough lets fix the weak spots before fixing the hardest position on the team.

Now lets see someone say THAT in print. That is the guy that will have earned his keep. I am so beyond fed up over this issue it's not even funny.

Ron Wolf, McCloughan's mentor, was big on picking a QB every year so he'd always have an up and coming QB. I wonder why SM hasn't followed that rule.

Ummm maybe cause Martz brought JT with him the year before and Scott drafted Davis last season?

I forget, when did Scott take over full time as GM?
