How was he late on Purdy? They were barred from even discussing an extension with him until this past season was over.

yeah we're not late on Purdy... yet

and we're actually in a really good spot as far as him being jumped in the market place goes.

because, every other top QB is locked up already, and won't demand a new deal:

Lamar Jackson - signed thru 2028
Dak Prescott - 2029
Jordan Love - 2029
Jared Goff - 2029
Jalen Hurts - 2029
Joe Burrow - 2030
Justin Herbert - 2030
Trevor Lawrence - 2031
Josh Allen - 2031
Patrick Mahomes - 2032

Stafford signed a new deal earlier this year
and Bryce Young, Jayden Daniels, Caleb Williams are ineligible for new deals

so the FO actually has a little bit of leverage with Purdy

but that doesn't really excuse the Aiyuk, Trent, Deebo, Bosa, Kittle contracts... even CMC came after Barkley got signed by PHI (should've been cheaper)

  • The Ravens are already exploring an extension for Lamar, wanting to get it done before next offseason. The extension is expected to pass Allen as the top contract.
  • The Chiefs moved 45M in cash from 2028-2031 to pay out over 2023-26. Mahomes is getting 264.75M from 2023-27 (52.95M AAV). Mahomes is scheduled to have yearly cashflows of 27.175M, 34.975M, 45.525M, and 48.375M, well below his 2023-27 cash flow. The Chiefs could move money from 2029-31 to pay out in 2028 to bring his cash flow in line with the league top contracts. Then they give him an extension in 2029. This is what happened with Allen in 2024 and 2025. I think they'll just extend him in 2028, infuse a ton of cash and add 2-3 years.
  • The Rams and Stafford did not agree to a new deal/extension earlier this year. It was supposedly a restructure that adjusted his cash for this year by moving money from his 2026 compensation. Exact details haven't been released about it though. Stafford's contract ends next year and the Rams have been hesitant about wanting to commit to him further.
  • Stroud and Richardson are the extension eligible quarterbacks following this upcoming season. Mayfield is a quarterback that could move into the franchise QB tier of 50M+ quarterbacks next year.
  • Anyone on your list that is going to get another big extension will get it before their contract expires.
  • Ownership and the Front Office is already committed to extending Purdy. They want to get it done this year. Purdy wants to get it done this year.

Lol come on. You honestly think any team says welp can't discuss this until 12:01 am on this date so we'll have no communication with the agent at all until then!

And here we are, months later, nothing happens. We've already seen this story many times and we know what's happening
Dude Paraag needs to have zero involvement with the 49ers. Let me deal with the soccer s**t.

I think some were discussing this yesterday in the John Lynch thread.

This is discussed with every player due a contract.

Yes, but it was specifically discussed about GK in that thread iirc.
This was posted in the Lynch thread but definitely belongs here

Parang doesn't run anything that has to do with who gets what amount, he's there to make sure it works cap wise, plus he's too busy with the soccer team, also Kittle's deal wasn't mishandled, GK was always getting $20M or more a year, he's not taking less than that.

Again, Paraag has nothing to do with who the team signs or doesn't sign, whoever started this b******t doesn't know dips**t about how the 49ers front office work, yes I know how it works, it's up to John & Kyle on who they want, Paraag makes sure it works cap wise, while Jed has to sign off on how much is being paid out, I know this isn't gonna work with those who have no clue what they're talking about, so this may be a lost cause to even argue about it.

CMC was signed during the 2024 offseason, making $19M a yr, highest RB at time, Barkley signed that new deal this year way way way after Barkley signed his $20M a yr extension.

"A 49ers Organization Reset: Why Jed York figures to take a more ruthless approach", Mike Silver, The Athletic/NY Times, 3/7/2025
In past years, as he decided whether to dole out a massive signing bonus to Purdy, York might have been swayed by his coach's and GM's conviction. This time, I expect the owner and his chief negotiator, executive vice president of football operations Paraag Marathe, to be as ruthless as they deem appropriate.

"Tim Kawakami - Trading Brandon Aiyuk is a Give-Up Trade", The Morning Roast, 95.7 The Game, 8/6/2024
Everything I hear from NFL people is the guy who negotiates these deals is Paraag Marathe. That's the guy.

"As Williams dined, 49ers cooked up deal to keep him from KC", Matt Maiocco, NBC Sports, 3/24/2021
Within an hour, Williams' agent, Vincent Taylor, and 49ers chief negotiator, Paraag Marathe, came to agreement on a six-year, $138.06 million contract that makes Williams the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history.

"The Inside Story of San Francisco's $137.5 Million Jimmy Garoppolo Gamble", Robert Mays, The Ringer, 8/22/2018
San Francisco's massive reserves of cap space afforded the organization flexibility in constructing Garoppolo's deal. When Lynch and Marathe flew to Los Angeles to meet agent Don Yee following the season, they made clear the Niners had no interest in using the franchise tag as a bargaining chip. "We wanted to lock him up," Lynch says. "That set the tone, and then Paraag and Don went about negotiating. I thought it was important to tell him, 'We believe this is our guy. We don't want to posture. We come low, you come high.' We went pretty aggressive with an offer, not only to tell them, but to show them through our actions, that we were serious about getting something done."

Seems like the people reporting on the team thinks he's running contract negotiations and the cap.

even your posts indicate he's just a contract guy. so lynch says we are gonna make a strong offer on jimmy and that's how paraag comes in. that is an example presented by you that the club wants him to get it done quick and that's what he does.

or jed wants paraag to be 'ruthless' and he carries that out. he's not the driver of what the club is doing. he just is the contractual expert. the club expresses their wishes, just like a player communicates his wishes to his agent, then the agent and paraag hammer it out. if you don't like jed being ruthless, blame jed. paraag is just following orders.
