how about we give Seifert some credit? it takes more than just a nice team to win a championship.

ive never seen a fanbase that was so divided against their all time greats.

guys, 1981 to 1998 was the greatest dynasty in football history. Bill Walsh built it, won the first 3, and Seifert kept it going strong, and finished off with the last 2.

would it kill people to actually support a former coach who during his tenure with SF, had the highest winning % in NFL history?

Seifert literally had a .766 W-L% before he left for Carolina, which ranks ahead of even John Madden's .763.

I think Seifert did a very good job while HC of the Niners but in no way do I think he is a HOF coach. I think a Hall of Fame Head Coach is someone who took a team from scratch or from the bottom and built them up tp greatness. Seifert did not do that and in fact was a big failure in Carolina. If he had been able to succeed there then I think he could be in HOF consideration for sure.

I think that Seifert-Switzer comparisions are very fair. Both took teams that were built by other head coaches and won SB's without screwing it up. However, George does get a higher mark in my book because of the 94 season.

I like George and would never diminish what he did with the Niners. I just dont think its HOF worthy.

so youre punishing the guy because of his situation?

before he left for Carolina, Seifert has the best winning% of any coach in NFL history. hes a HOF, period. if you start saying Seifert had it made and he shouldnt go, then you have to say Rice had it made with Montana and Young, and didnt have to make it big starting with a rookie.

I guess you can have your critieria and I can have mine. I believe that HOF coaches are those that built something and took teams from nowhere to greatness. Guys like this are Walsh, Parcells, Shula, Landry, Gibbs, Bellechek. The Hall is supposed to reward the best of the best and I just dont think that George is in the class of the men like those stated above. George took over an amazing team with an incredible organization and did a wonderful job. He kept it going. When he took over a team that needed to build he failed.

49er Hall of Fame... absolutely. NFL Hall of Fame.. nope he falls short.

I was bummed when they made him step down. And when they change the uniforms for the 96 season. the end of the 90's were a bummer altogether
