i really hate you F@%$ that claim every single thread is a "Smith Hater Thread", Smith is a good QB, but good isnt going to cut it when you are a QB for the 49ers! When Smith fails to captivate the 9er faithful next season, I will be there to tell you "I Told You So".

Why are you calling others F@%$, is there something about YOUR sexual orientation that you are unsure of. It's ok, you can come out of the closet.

The point is that there are so many pro / anti Smith threads already.

And if Smith plays well next year, will come back to "eat crow". Lol, I think not.
Smith's the starting QB. Smith hasn't even hit his potential yet. Smith has done nothing but get better year after year, but yet some of us are still looking for the next temporary fill-in, aka Shaun Hill.

Don't get me wrong, Shaun Hill did well coming in, but he's not a QB of the future and barely a short term QB. His lack of the deep pass makes planning against our offense really easy.

Shaun Hill had one bad half, and he was demoted. Alex Smith had a bad half against Green Bay, Detroit, St. Louis, and had bad games against Tennessee and Philly.

Youre kidding right? We couldnt do ANYTHING on offense with Shaun Hill.. If Alex Smith wasnt the Qb theres no way VD wouldve had his 13 TDs....

Shaun Hill alowed teams to stack 8 guys in the box because he couldnt throw further than 15 yards... that also shutdown our run..

And people think the alex smith lovers are blind. But alex can get sacked and then throw it past the first down mark hill can't even get it back to the line of scrimmage..

Ya...Our offense was clearly better with Smith than with Hill..

Even when we "tweaked" our offense, do you really think noodle-armed pie throwing Shaun Hill is going to be effective in the Spread offense?

But hopefully next year we develop a good running O Line, that will open up the playaction to Vernon and Crabtree....If Alex Fails to make the playoffs this year then we better not bring him back..

Gore and Coffee stuffed at the line of scrimmage? Thanks, OL. QB does a 3-step drop and is immediately hammered for a sack? Thanks, OL.

Guys, it doesn't matter if it's Nate, Alex, or Shaun under center if it's behind this line. Drafting a stud OL or two will help. Solari and Brown coaching will help. But until the OL improves pretty dramatically from what we saw of it last season, any QB would struggle behind it.

Ya, Aaron Rodgers sucks behind that horrible offensive line.
LOL this thread is also geared towards Nate Davis. I just used Shaun Hill as an example

You do realize that when their OLine got healthy they only gave up like 9 sacks in the last 8 games right? Prior to that they were 4-4 and they had 3 guys on their OL injured and were down to a 3rd string left tackle IIRC. But yes, lets just revise history here and all...

Shaun Hill was a 3rd string quartberback with the Vikings. His only 2 snaps during his 3 years with the Vikings were kneel downs at the end of the game.

Then he came to the 9ers. He was the 3rd string QB behind Alex Smith and Trent Dilfer. As we know, the 3rd string QB doesn't get many snaps during practice. Once Alex got hurt, Dilfer came in because Nolan thought Dilfer was the better player. We suffered through most of the season and had to watch Trent Dilfer try to perform.

Then Dilfer got hurt and we all thought "Oh God! The 3rd stringer is coming in. We are all screwed because he is gonna be worst than Dilfer!" But Hill performed well. People claimed that he was not a good "practice player", but he had that QB instinct. And he won games. He ended up being 10-6 as a starter.

So my point is, just because some of you claim that Nate Davis is not "ready", how do you really know that? Any of you who have watched the video of every pass thrown by him on youtube will see that he looks comfortable in the pocket. Yes it was preseason, but that was the first time that he was exposed to the speed of the NFL, and he did a pretty damn good job. Just because he is a 3rd stringer does not mean that he may not have the potential to be a starter. We all know that just because a player was not selected in the first round of the draft, or didnt come from a big college, does not mean that they will not develop into a great QB. (See Kurt Warner, Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Tony Romo, Brett Favre, Steve Young, Matt Schaub. Jeff Garcia)

I believe that Davis needs to get more reps during practice and the preseason. Alex is way ahead in terms of timing down with the receivers, but Alex doesn't have "It". And by "It", I mean that QB instinct. (Aaron Rodgers) So we need to let Nate Davis start workin his way into more playing time!

you have convinced me...nate davis is a s good as shaun hill

Not.

Just another thread knocking Smith. Dull it is.

If he is knocking Smith, what's the problem? Unless he's saying Hill should still be the starter, there is no problem. We are still without a decent QB on our roster, that was the main thing holding us back after 35-0 Ram win. Now if he was defending Alex and how he should still start for us and all that BS then we have a problem.

You missed my point.
Is it me or are Smith fans getting weirder and creepier?... Just making a casual observation....
I've have never seen such devotion to failure or so many ways to lie, manipulate and excuse "reality". Society really is dominated by undiagnosed neotards.

Apparently in San Francisco, QB "greatness" is measured by the strength of your arm. Lets see, Shaun Hill gets us to a 3-2 record (should have been 4-1) with an ULTRACONSERVATIVE offense that featured nothing, and he gets canned.

Smith, on the other hand, has the offense tweaked multiple times, even to the point that our star offensive player (Gore) is put on the back burner, yet he still botches in the majority of the games he plays in (Tenn, GB, Sea, Chi, Phill).

Hill sucks because he has a weak arm and cant execute a bad playbook.

Smith is the next Montana because he can throw 10-15 yards further, still not being able to execute a playbook that has been tweaked multiple times in his favor.

Oh, and he only passed for 300 yards once in his career, and needs his defense to create 5-7 turnovers in order to execute a "complete" game.

Damn shame that old school Niner fans have disappeared, and now our bandwagon is full of half-assed supporters who base their support on looks, biceps, and jock size rather than the ability to quarterback.

Pathetic..........

I wont argue that smith is the answer or that he will succeed but I dont see how it was not evident that Shaun Hill was unarguably EXPOSED this year.

10-15 yards? If I had to guess a number of yards it would be closer to 30-40 yards further, but the deep pass is not the real concern as much as the arm strenght was evident in short passes. Hill's wobbly floaters arent helping anyone get YAC

Would you argue our OL got better as the season went on? I wouldn't but thats just me, yet somehow we also see this:

Smith: 11 games (10.5) 394 Pass attempts, 22 Sacks 1 Sack every 17.9 Drop backs
Hill: 6 games (really 5.5) 173 Pass attempts = 18 Sacks 1 Sack every 9.6 Drop Backs

(I added each Sack as a Pass attempt)

Almost 2x as many games, more than 2x as many drop backs but only 4 more sacks

Is there nothing to be said for Hills Lack of mobility and athleticism? The fact that Smith was able to at least get a throw off is better than a Sack? no?

My opinion on the matter is Hill has hit his ceiling and is what he is, a good Backup but not all Backups make transition to starter

Again, I am not arguing that smith is the answer but I'd take him any and every day when my alternative is Shaun Hill
The Shaun Hill story is pretty simple really. He was a backup. He played himself into a chance at starter, but then we realized at his best, he's a backup qb. End of story.

You guys think Shawn Hill is the answer, have no idea what the hell you are talking about. You are a Smith hater and always will. I'm not saying Smith is the answer, but he is the starter right now. So all of the Smith haters are hoping the Niners lose so Smith can be bench. I don't get it. Root for your team!!! Been a Niner fan for fifty years and every time I come in here it looks like so many people are so negative about the Niners. It is so unreal. I have watch more losing season though out the years and have never missed a game. You Smith haters and also Hill haters need to go to your closet and grab another coat a root for another team. I would never put down a Niner in uniform. They are part of our family. Get it? Probably not? I know we have our differences on players but don't dwell on it! I love reading about the Niners and this site is getting out of hand. To much Negetive!!! Go Niner for ever. Win or Lose. Hopefully Win. I just love watching them.
