He makes a key block on Garrison Hearst's 96-yard touchdown run in overtime against the Jets in the 1998 season opener, allows no sacks in 2000 and is selected to his first and only Pro Bowl in 2001--his 16th year in the league.

First it was Mike Solari...the OL coach Singletary really wanted...now Ray Brown. I'd say the OL's in some very good coaching hands now...time for some guys to step up or step away. It's a foregone conclusion we'll draft an OT in the 1st rd...and most likely an OG in the 2nd/3rd...some needed fresh blood in the hands of Solari and Brown sure sounds good. All of this sets up what Singletary really wants to do...which is run when he wants to and truly have the ability to impose his will on other teams. In Gore and Coffee, he has two good backs...I know Glen got off to a slow start, but he showed signs toward the end of the season of getting it. I really hope we add either/both a speed back and a power RB...a consistently strong running game will only help Alex and the rest of the offense to achieve the balance Singletary wants.

What i am most concerned about is lack of adequate training to be where he is today. He will be a hero to me if he takes this team to the promised land. Problem is i have been watching true greatness in the playoffs, and it is depressing to compare our HC with those guys who made the playoffs. Yes, a team makes the playoffs, but the Hc gets them there. I can only look at Payton, childress, Peyton manning(OC), bellicheat,Whisenhunt, heck even Ryan of the jets, and be envious.
On a second matter, my apologies for not being more positive. I just have this sinking feeliing in my gut...another yr, same ole, same old. Honest to gosh, i want to be wrong. I was early on a big fan of scot til he flamed out and proved to be just a scout. From there it just kinda rolled downhill. Looking at our progress since mooch got fired...well, it is better to just forget it and get on down the road. But thinking back 7-8 yrs, it just brings tears. Unfortunately, i became a 49er fan when bill walsh took over...and frankly got spoiled by the GOAT. I guess we are destined to just be what we are...and led by whoever is put in place by the owners. But there again, that is just depressing. Ah heck, it's time for a beer...that'll lighten me up. Thanks to both of you for the advice.
Have a few more... then a few more, then watch some team highlights, that's my advice. I personally want the Niners to win very badly but championship teams take time to build. Right now, it's about the journey rather than the end result. So have a few more beers (as I will) and see what's next!
Tulini, and Oldniner, i have a website (for over a yr) about the runnings of our vineyard, which i would refer you to if it seems i am in the dumpster about the 49ers. If you or any others wish to follow along, check out www.cerroprietovineyard.com, ,and go to Larry's blog, and you will catch me in an upbeat mood. With the 49ers, there is nothing i can do , to help things go right, which is frustrating (to many of us). In the vineyard if there is a problem, i can at least work on it. Nonetheless as you both have pointed out, being negative nelly is not what anyone wants to read...nor should they. Thanks again for your polite reminders. And yes, i am stoked about solari and bigRay.

Funny hat?
Brown used to wear an extra layer of padding on top of his helmet to help protect against concussion. It looked like half a golden soccer ball stuck on top of his helmet.
that was Derrick Deese
EPIC FAIL
it was Steve Wallace
Haha, everybody is soo giddy and they dont even know who the f**k he is.
Oh, has the great Ray Brown even coached anybody before? What does his coaching resume look like?
Bucky Brooks has us taking two dbs in the first round. I wonder just how the rest of the league percieves the niners OL problems? Was it the players, coaches or the play of Alex Smith? I think we all recognize Smith as not having the quickest judgment in passing but I would think analysts would recognize that OL was a major problem. If as I suspect the coaching and schemes accounted for a lot of the ineptness then we should be in decent shape. I still believe a great OL will bring better results then anything else so I would go OL. Maybe not the absolute best but pretty damn good and many of them down to about the third round. About any weakness in the offence can be countered by a strong line. I actually liked what I saw of Alec Boone. He looked pretty sturdy and moreso for as big as he is he seems to be able to stay in front of a pass rusher. He doesn't get pushed back either. I think with a top guard and two second and third round tackles would cover us very nicely and offer an asset to trade if the surplus is great. With a great OL, we could win with any of our qbs.

I hope I didn't offend you or aything? It was just my opinion.
Nah, Tuli, you guys just gave me some good advice: focus on the positive, just as i have suggested to some guys in times past. No offense taken, my friend.
Teeohh, do did i miss something? i heard that foerster asked bigMike for permission to move to East coast to be closer to his family---i thot that was a done deal and foerster is, thankfully, gone. Did i get it wrong?
As for bigRay and Solari, i have a couple observations and wishes for them. OL is only as good as a) their inherent talent, b)the degree of goodness or badness of the OL coaching, and finally, c), the coordination of the OL and OL coach with the qb. If alex learns his OL strengths he can get miles more protection from using the strengths of the OL. Additionally, i would hope that MJ, our qB coach, interacts between the OL coaching, the OL, and Qb to get the maximum amount of coordination between OL and alex...and hopefully, the maximum amt of time for protection. I personally think foerster failed in his job, but obviously, i don't know all that went on under him. I think we have just markedly improved the potential of our OL, but still need the OL to perform. Incidentally, bigMike ShOULD be right in the middle of all this. I sure hope he gets involved first hand.
An increased degree of coordination would be a huge improvement over what is now in the past. Sure, work on OL technique, strength, quickness, plan, but also let's get the QB coach's thots said to the OL, and the corollary, get the OL coach talking to the QB and Qb coach so each side knows where the other is coming from. Finally, get bigMike intimately involved with these discussions, so the left hand knows what the right is doing, and also at the presser, bigMike knows exactly what the OL , OL coach, qb and qb coach, are all doing. Undoubtedly he would have some pearls of wisdom to offer, but he should be really involved in all these discussions so he knows where the OL and qb, and their coaches are.

In that regard, I believe we have a positive. Ray Brown has worked with Mike Solari in the past as a player. Mike Solari has also worked with Jimmy Raye from 1998-2000 when they were both in Kansas City. I think this will really help our coaches to all get on the same page quickly. They know how each person operates and can communicate with eachother. This can only help our offense going into the 2010 season!

I also like how since we are going into year 2 of the Jimmy Raye offense, we can open it up and become less predictable.
