He was going to have a very limited role on the coaching staff as Solari and Drevno would be the primary coaches of the offensive line. In addition, he would have shared coaching duties with Greg Roman for the TE unit.
The position with the Panthers will certainly help his coaching career, and there's great talent along that offensive line. Harbaugh's got class though - allowing Brown to seek out other opportunities but also allow him to return to the 49ers. Not many coaches have that flexibility.
