Ray Brown was one of my favorite niner players. The guy was super classy. And if I remember correctly he had some crazy number of games in a row without allowing a sack. I think it spanned multiple years. Does anyone else have a better memory of that?

Ray Brown and Kevin Gogan were one of the best (and biggest!!) guard tandems we have ever had! I miss both of them.

Scott Gragg was also a former Giants lineman that played for us around that time too.

Gragg was one of my favorite Tackles on our team of all time, guy may not of been a pro bowler, but was good.

I am glad Ray Brown is back! Is Solari also officially back? I have not heard anything.

Four coaches will be retained, but will Alex Smith?
Posted on January 21, 2011 by Eric Branch

After an informal get-to-know-you lunch with beat writers today (excellent stuffed mushrooms), coach Jim Harbaugh took on-the-record questions for the first time since he was hired exactly two weeks ago.

There was some hard news regarding the coaching staff coming out of the 30-minute give-and-take. And there were several questions about – who else? – quarterback Alex Smith!

Here we go:

• As expected, Jim Tomsula (defensive line), Tom Rathman (running backs) and Mike Solari (offensive line) will be retained from Mike Singletary’s staff. Harbaugh also confirmed that Brad Seely has been hired as the special teams coach. Seely was the assistant head coach/special teams coordinator in Cleveland the past two seasons.

Ray Brown, an assistant offensive line coach this past season, will also be retained. Brown will help coach tight ends and the offensive tackles. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman will serve as the lead tight ends coach. Roman also coached tight ends with the Texans and Stanford.

The final tally: Three offensive line coaches (Solari, Brown and Tim Drevno) and two tight ends coaches (Roman, Brown)

“We want to make sure that everyone’s getting coached,” Harbaugh said. “It’s a scorched-earth approach to coaching. Coaching that group — starters, backups, developmental guys. We really want to have that area coached well.”
.

I'm glad Ray back, but what does he know about Tight Ends? Unless he only teaching them blocking which is ok..

I am sure he will work with them more on their blocking while Roman and Morton will school them on route running. BTW, Geep Chryst is a former Linebacker and is now a QB's coach. Mike Tomlin was a former WR and then coached DB's before becoming a DC and HC. Greg Roman our new OC/TE's coach was a defensive lineman but has coached QB's, TE's, O-Line, etc, etc. Get my drift?

Mike Nolan was first a WR coach with the Ravens.....Mike Singletary was a motivator coach.

Not a big loss but I was happy when I heard Harbaugh was keeping Ray around. I wonder if he can convince Chris Dalman to come out of retirement. Dalman (an ex 49er) coached the O-Line at Stanford for 2yrs while harbaugh was there.
Yep great addition to our already steller staff. Excited for next season. Iupati is gonna beast.

What Ken Norton Jr. was a bad coach too must have been? I think people who dominated at there position can put some insight on how to perform, and nobody performed better than Ray Brown. Just remember hes an assistant not the man in charge, he only gets 2 cents in.

I'd get the creeps too if somebody ate his taco with a spoon.
