matt ryan and joe flacco are not better than smith....not on planet earth or mars

When down by 7 points or less, his rating is 50. This is not hating because that's just what development is. He's finally doing the easy stuff right when in the lead or being blown out, but let us hope he improves his play when in tough situations.

terrible argument considering they've both been to the playoffs.

The teams built around them are better.. (or coached better at least) Flacco and Ryan don't have to lead their team at all, or win games for them..

When they are forced to win games for their teams, they have about as much success as smith.

More than a couple flaws with this list as Aaron Rodgers is too far down the list I would take him over Mcnabb, Roethlisberger, Warner, Romo, and Eli. Also I would have Vince young higher than Alex Smith and Flacco as well. I think Alex is maybe 17th or 18th because i'd probably have to put Vick and Sanchez higher than him as well.

So the guy who has one of the worse OL's, whose receivers were top 3 in dropped passes, but continued to put up ALL-AROUND great stats (top 3 in many categories), and destroyed a good Cards D, in their own house! is the #11 best QB in the NFL??? I'll make sure I don't rely on you for my Niners/football news.
It's real simple. Look at the list of all the starting QBs and count how many of them you start over Smith to play one, must win game tomorrow. I count about 16 that I would take over Smith, right now, for one game. So by my logic, Alex is the 17th best QB in the league. But that's hardy scientific.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there is no way in hell that Alex Smith is the 13 best QB in the league.

Vick isn't the player he used to be and Sanchez is horrible with an all pro OLine and a great running game and the best D in the league. I would put Smith 15th or 16th if Warner retires, but those 2 wouldn't be in front of him.

Vick should not be in the top 32. Sanchez should be around the tail end of it; 30ish. River's should be 4th, and probably Aaron Rodgers 5th. Kurt Warner can look "bad" more than anybody in that top 10 (so can Eli though), and hopefully, he is retiring.

It also depends how you are compiling these rankings. Is it based on accolades? Is it based on potential?

If it's accolades, Alex does not even belong on this list because he hasn't made it to the playoffs.

If it's based on potential, or the "it" factor, there are several people missing that should be ahead of Alex. Even though Cutler had a terrible season, he should still be on that list. He is young, smart, has a cannon arm, and a team that is going to be built around him in the future. Carson Palmer was considered the 3rd or 4th best QB in football for several seasons. He should still be in or around the top 10. He doesn't have the weapons that he did, but he will continue to rebound.

Flacco and Ryan are certainly better than Alex, how is that even debatable? Both have been to the playoffs, and in Flacco's case, with less weapons than Alex. I am an Alex supporter, but come on people, he is not in the top 15 yet.
Good for Him, he didnt start the whole season and next year he'll have the same off. coach which is a huge pluse. I know I will get blank stares or even hate comments for saying this but its very posible that he could be top 5 next year. With Gore, Davis, Crabtree and Morgan it is possible and not to say he does have the athletic ability. Plus it would be a great story and admiration for him to rise out of the ashes expecally what has happened to him since Draft Day.
He is also 24th in avg. Which I think is a huuuuuuuge stat. Any QB can dink and dunk. You need to complete passes down the field to keep your job in the NFL.
Alex is 24th in avg. Just a terrible stat.
