Could Haralson play ILB?

Spikes could easily be with us another two seasons. The guy is in great shape and he made it clear he wants to be with this team for at least a few more years. I didn't see any drop off in his play and he brings needed intellegence and experience to the position. Keep Mckillop as a back up and maybe draft next year.

Spikes will be the starter for 2 more years and mckillop will be his most probable successor. If we draft a ILB in the 1st or 2nd round this year or next he could leap frog Spikes and Mckillop.

Parys is not an ILB but if we tried him there we cannot afford to let him learn on the fly giving up plays when we already have 2 ilb's that are great.

I think he should rotate in with Brooks and Lawson but be backup to both

Injuries can change anything in the past, and Spikes has previously considered retirement due to injury concerns.

Hell, he was a free agent when we picked him up mid-season. Good teams always have well-rounded depth on their rosters to maintain high level play. Do not underestimate this point.

Clearly he has recovered as his play has been outstanding since he's been here. Did you see his interview with Mindy Bauch (?)? He wants to play and even more importantly wants to play here.

Of course injuries can change anything, but thats true of ANY position. Obviously there aren't enough high draft picks to cover all depth positions. It takes time and personally I think it would be ill advised to use a high draft pick on a position thats not a concern and we just drafted his back up in Mckillop.

I would also say dont underestimate the value of veteran leadership. Our own ALL PRO, 3 Time PRO BOWL LB, Patrick Willis mentioned Spikes is like his big brother. Plus he is a personality on the defense. He has a verbal fire, we need that.

I am not denying that Spikes hasn't preformed on a high level. He's been an outstanding addition to the team.

But also look at how fast Derek Smith fell off the wagon. Adalius Thomas in NE dropped off as well recently. The fact is that Spikes is nearing the point where you need to think about the future in a prompt manner. If you can find a young rookie stud to be the TED-in-waiting in the 2nd or 3rd round, you do it.

So you don't see McKillop as "THE GUY" to take the Ted spot?

Honestly, I dont think we disagree on this issue.

I would of liked that Samoan kid that went to the Bengals. However, It's a tough call because I really do think we need more players with an edge and are more vocal. IMO, we have to many "Yes, Sir" Nolan guys. Its not bad, but they are very quite. You ever see Spike before a game firing these guys up. We need that.

our weakest coverage linebacker inside, where pass coverage becomes more of a duty...

sure, that makes sense..
Britt Miller is our future ILB.

The fact that Wilhem saw more time for Spikes instead of McKillop is somewhat telling.

I think McKillop will be a great role player, but unless he shows coaches something more in TC, I think he'll remain a role player.

I agree! I think that we have some players who can and do provide constant pressure on the QB. It would be nice, though, to have one pass rusher that is a 10-12 sack threat a season. I hope that Brooks can be that guy OR Haralson's 09 season was just a blip and he'll come roarin' back in 2010.
