My bad worded wrong. I meant our overall record in such a weak division. That is how the pundits see it. If Vern was that good then why could they not win the weakest division in the league.

Our Record in the D lets me know that we are close. Shore up that only the road and out of division woes and well be ok. 2 of those wins and we at least played last week.

I think it has more to do with the fact that he still has "hands of stone". He has not made catches that other tight ends would have made.

I think he has improved dramatically, but I'm not sure he will ever be the guy that always catches the balls thrown to him.

Not a knock on Vernon, just something he has to improve in. In our "style" (if you coud call it that) of offense, he asked to do more blocking.

Maybe if they added a blocking tight end, and put both in like they do with Walker it would take some of the blocking onus away from him and make it easier to get the ball to him up the middle.

I got a feeling he meant our record in our Conference! We lost to Green Bay,Minnesota,Atlanta,Philadelphia...All NFC teams...

I think that Dallas Clark deserved it more. But Vernon Davis had a breakout year and may make it next year and not have as many TD's as he did this year.

Then yes, he did tied with the lead in TD's but also either led or almost led the NFL in drops.

So if you factor in the two he aint there yet. Because someone actually said it yesterday had he not had soo many drops, he'd far surpass 13 TD's and would have almost 90 catches.

Agree, if he had better hands his year would have been even better than it was.

Yes he dropped passes but look who made it in front of him, Dallas Clark nad Antonio Gates. Look who they have throwing to them. When does Dallas Calrk block? VD had like 6 more TDs then Gates too.

Well yeah he can block, but ask yourself this, a lot of us complained last year, because he wasnt being utilized correctly. We didnt draft him to be the best blocking TE in the league.

So i think the best blocking TE doesn't factor in at all. And besides who's throwing to him, look at how many drops Dallas Clark, Antonio Gates, or even Tony Gonzalez for that matter has. Probably enough to count on one hand, not 10+, like our boy Davis.

Now dont get me wrong, he's a beast. Lets not lose sight of that, but like you said, when you said, yeah he dropped, but this or that. Well i think the voters dont exclude the drops, which is why he didnt get the vote. Like i said in another post, you cant omit a part that we dont like because thats just from one perspective. You have to look at the player as a whole.

And if you watch film on all 3 throughout the season, they make those catches that Davis drops, and some of the passes were thrown worse then the ones Davis dropped. Or most of them.

No, Clark and Gates are excellent TEs that put up great numbers and didn't drop as many passes.

Davis is just starting to tap his potential. Now that he is more mature and focused, he'll get his All Pro soon enough.

Vernon will be the best tight end in the league once he gets McNabb throwing to him next season.

I think if Vernon produces again next season like he did this year, then he could make All Pro. The problem with this year was that he wasn't head and shoulders above Gonzalez or Clark. In the group of the three, the one thing that stands out is not the TDs but the drops. Clark had close to 100 catches, if I remember right. Gonzalez had 8 TDs. Vernon has a better all around game due to his blocking skills but his receiving, although improved, is still behind the other two.
