Ummmm I think that we're forgetting something here.

Dallas has turf.

We have grass.

Grass is much more forgiving. I'm thinking that new turf in Dallas probably exacerbated whatever problem he had.

But let's not forget that Dallas picked him RIGHT up. So he probably didn't see much of a rest between games as well. Which meant no bye week for Rossum. Which ALSO could have led to the injury. Correct?

So you can suggest that he was going to be injured all along, but there is no way of knowing this for sure unless you're A.R.'s medical practitioner.

As much as I like to bag on Scotty M and Sings approach to the roster this season, one of the worst I can remember, I gotta say Rossum was not playing well and according to reports at the time he was released, he was plagued by little injuries.

So yea, I gotta say Rossum was done, he was stepping out of bounds, he was fair catching the ball all to often, If you are going to burn a roster spot on a return man he had better be a sure handed fearless mutha-f**ka!

Rossom was done, the mistake was rotating return men, Sing couldn't decide and never let anyone get in a grove, I would have liked to seen Sheets, or Spurlock get a chance early in camp so we could have cut Rossum before the season started.

You say Rossum was not playing well, but he hadn't fumbled a ball all season and the only thing left desired was getting more yardage on his returns. At least he was fearless enough to fair catch the ball instead of letting it roll. Even Brandon Jones made difficult fair catches without fumbling the ball. He was the best option we had on our roster and if we were going to keep Spurlock, we should've at least given him a chance to return balls. A lot of stupid decisions made with the roster.

Well I think that Rossum was a sure handed and fearless MF'er. You have to be to do what he did over his career. Right?

He also had a Return for a TD early in the season that got called back on a BS penalty. But one thing he did not do was put the ball on the carpet.

And I completely agree with you that Sing didn't allow anyone to get comfortable. In any case that's a management issue and that was the problem this season the management was not making the right moves and it all started with cutting Rossum.

I have no problem cutting ANYONE on the team.(Yes folks this includes Alex) so lng as you have a competent replacement for them already on the roster. It's STUPID to replace someone without knowing what the replacement gives you at full speed. That means you work them in and see what they give you. If all they do is fair catch the ball or run out of bounds then you DON'T cut Rossum. He already was doing that right? So you allow the other guy enough chances to exceed above Rossum's level of performance. And up to that point Spurlock didn't do a damn thing so in my mind Spurlock was expendable, Rossum was not.

rossum is ONE part of the team(don't get me wrong, i miss him to), special teams. it could be just me but a fumble that happens in the 1st half shouldn't determine the game. it's a set back not a game breaker. if that had happened in the 4th on our last possible drive, i get that that, but it didn't.

a good team that is clutch would've got past that, that people is one of our major problems as a team. perfect example is last years SB. warner throws the int(turnover in the 1st half) which is returned for a td(points off t.o.), but they got past that. they come back & got the lead late, but their D wasn't clutch & couldn't find a way to get off the field.

I can almost guarantee that there were more points left on the field & plays that could've lead to more points would out weigh that 1st half s.p.'s t.o.. my point is a clutch team should get past that & that is something our team is not. i hope this years experience will get us past that. sorry but to me the team not being clutch when it matters most is a way bigger problem than loosing freakin rossum.

why didn't we trade for Cribbs when we had the chance!

because 1. this isnt madden, and 2. they probably wanted a 1st or 2nd and 3rd for him, and no way would i give up that much for a return guy.

ProFootballTalk said we were one of the teams that tried for a Cribbs trade. The Browns decided to keep him though.

Symptoms of A Bad Return Game
by Dr. Psinex

1. Poor field position
2. Crucial turnovers that result in easy points for the opponent
3. Revolving door of inexperienced players
4. Injuries to important position players ie. Nate Clements

This is all related to the team despite your "clutch" theory. A mid-level team can't overcome things like fumbling away a ball deep in your own territory right after the defense makes an impressive 3 and out stop. Good teams can push the ball up the field on all kinds of plays, including punt returns.

oooook, you have your reason & i'll stick with mine. i've seen more metal lapses when the game is on the line from th o & the d that costed us the game than anything else. didn't we lose 2 or 3 fumbles on sp. teams that turned into points that happened in the first half. if it happened once a game, what's the excuse in the other 5 or 6 l's. again it happened in the FIRST half & the niners for most of the season have been a better second half team which has overcame that 1st half mistake BUT when the game is on the line & they need that last drive, they come up short. don't get me wrong, your reason is coo but i don't see this season wasted because of a sp. team player.
