No more excuses. Yeah sure, not until the first loss and then all the Alex lickers will start in again. Not his fault, the defensive guy jumped in front of his great pass. Not his fault he fumbled, his hands were cold. Not his fault he didn't see the open man, he wasn't looking that was. If Alex Smith turns around and does a great job next season, I will be glad to cheer him on. I just don't see it happening. Granted we could use some help at RT, but that won't change who Alex is. He has to think everything through and then it is too late to make the play. Up til now, he hasn't even shown he could be a good backup. If he was the answer, the Niners would be in the playoffs as the division champs. Didn't happen with Smith and probably never will. If he does great, wonderful. If not, absolutely no more excuses for Alex Smith.

Jeez Steve, tell us how you really feel.

Its funny, I'm pretty sure all those excuses you listed there were actual statements made last night by Jon Gruden about Brett Favre.

Agree 100%. In 2010, no more excuses, especially for these 5:

1.) Coach Singletary
2.) Scot McCloughan
3.) Alex Smith
4.) Nate Clements
5.) Joe Staley (not convinced he's a real LT)

All of these guys need to step up big time and have a great 2010. If they do, we have a legit shot at winning our division. If they don't, we'll be watching the playoffs on tv again and these 5 f**kers need to to be replaced.

First time I've heard some real Staley-hate on here. Interesting take.

He didn't look good out there against Detroit.

Maybe we should hope the 49ers just cut Staley

I'm afraid that Jed will wimp out(after the playoff promise made last year) when it comes time to chop heads even if the playoffs are not made and that mere "progress" will let them stay yet another year. After all, Jed hasn't come out and said "Playoffs or else", just the people in here.

100% agree just have to change the order. Cause ScoTt needs to go get Sing an O-Line int he offseason. So he is #1. It's funny how it all falls into place behind that because if we dont fix the line SinG will fail and Smith willl fail and if the Offesnse fails chances are the D will be on the field a ton and Clements will fail (not to say Clements cant fail on his own cause that is very possible).

Scott listen up, FIX THE GOD DAMN OFFENSIVE LINE!!!!GET A RT AND LG.

I especially loved how they lauded Favre when he tossed that little incomplete pass at a receiver that wasn't looking (originally ruled a fumble) and then he actually did fumble the ball untouched on the next play. Then I had to hear Jaws tell me about "dewy grass" on the field and how it made the ball slippery. Pi$$es me off that jag-off is in the pro-bowl again. Although there's no chance that sissy-mary will play.

Yes -- if we're 8-8 or worse next year, we're cleaning house.

I haven't heard that many compliments and slurping since the last time I saw a porn movie

All misguided Favre-love aside. It's good to know that next year, the chips are down and we'll see just what we have. I, for one, am really excited to see how things go with everything being equal from one year to the next. Even if they didn't add a single player, I'd be stoked to see how they can improve.

They better not do that though.
Do you know why they (GM and coaches) are sold on him? It is because he is the best that we got dudes. Until someone unseats him they have no choice.

That's 1 helluva mantra there: NO EXCUSES....But the won't happen. Just as long as we fans truly believe we know what were talking about when it comes to football, then everytime a player makes a boneheaded play...we'll defend/criticize him. We'll analyze technique, players' character, surrounding circumstances...U name it. As long as they are 49ers, we'll ALWAYS make excuses for them.

Very rarely will an owner publicly announce that jobs are on the line if expectations are not met. Coaches don't need a fire lit under them, they know that if they don't perform to expectations, they're most likely fired.
