In any case, I guess we're just gonna differ then. I interpret the media differently than you do. If there's no quote attached, I don't make any assumptions.

Good example, Barrows says, "He is being penciled in as the starter at right tackle." But what information is that based on? Is that his own gut feeling? Did he consult with someone off the record?

We just don't know, which is why I didn't take anything away from that. Maybe you did.

Something to ponder: if he was penciled in as the starter at RT as the media seems to interpret the signing, then why did Snyder get almost all the 1st team reps? Doesn't this indicate that all those articles were wrong, and that Smith was NOT be handed a starting role? IIRC, Snyder started in all exhibition games at RT before Smith's retirement. Again, doesn't this indicate that Snyder was to be the starter at RT?

I think we're arguing over semantics again. Happy holidays!

What get's forgotten is that after Smith retired, McCloughan went out and got Pashos who was starting to settle in full time at RT before he broke his shoulder against Houston.

That's not forgotten. McCloughan didn't "go out and get" Pashos, he was cut by the Jaguars. Again starting another team's cut player.

He did go out and get him, and who cares if he was cut by another team if he is better than the option there before we signed him? Jesus man, you are just being negative beyond reason.

Nuff said. Time will prove this out ... people chose to see the facts one way and others see it another way. No more posts about McCloughan for now but this time next year when you're frustrated, I'll search for this post (like last season when Smith was signed).

I don't get frustrated like many on this board, I realize that there are more important things to worry about in life than football. Football is my favorite sport, the Niners are the only team I even watch, and I haven't missed a game since the internet started broadcasting them all, but to be quite honest, it is far from the most important thing in my life. I have too many other concerns to sit around crying about the team not living up to some unrealistic expectations I placed upon them. I never thought we were a solid lock for a playoff team, I figured we'd win about 8-9 games and have an outside shot at the wildcard. We didn't get the wildcard, oh well...life goes on for most of us. Some of you are starting to sound like you need to get a life outside of watching football, there is one out there for you...I promise.

To some degree i like this move. I believe we already have the talent to be a good football team. Think about it, every time some high priced free agent or some big player like Albert Heinghsworth comes to another team he never lives up to expectations. For example: Nate Clements, Albert Heighnworth, T.O., Warren Sapp with the raiders, richard seimor, and others. If we just focus on the draft and build our players like the steelers I believe that is a recipe for success. Free Agency is NEVER the answer, drafting and building is!

I'm with you. That's the only change I would consider for 2010. I don't even know who the OL coach is but it seems to me they are underperforming. We have a 1st, two 2nds, and 3rd starting along with Heitmann. These guys were all regarded highly when they came out. They are all veterans now and should be producing on a higher level than they are.

Other than that, I say keep things in place. Or do we go new coach, new OC, new QB, etc.? I wouldn't. I'd take my 2 1st round picks and see what happens next year.

my sentiments exactly.
Hooray!!! We've been talking continuity for years and that was all the talk behind signing Sing and Rae. So now we're finally going to get it. I for one am stoked. No B.S.

I don't agree with you that I think I'm crying about the team. I don't agree with your perspective at all. You're passion is different from. I understand that. I'm willing to respect differences.

Same here man, Merry Christmas...enjoy your holidays!

The question is, will Jed change anything about the way he panders to Goodell at the expense of the fans (lost home game for a trip to London) and our ability to be competitive (London, folding like a lawnchair on tampering charges), or has he earned some kind of good will that will grease the wheel to getting league money for a stadium? That is the only reason I could see him justifying being Goodell's b**ch...If the league does end up being more of a hinderance than a help with the stadium, then it would be fair to say that the Yorks had zero respect as owners and should sell sell sell.....

We have too many hurdles to cross at this point, so I'm gonna assume the Santa Clara deal will be a failure.

1. The NFL doesn't entrust a loan/debt into a stadium planted within a small community (putting the pressure on the limited population to put up the money through taxation in a horrible economy).

2. Our new stadium design is flawed within 'modernized' NFL standard (let's be real here, it's f**king ridiculous, and it looks like something from the 70's). Sure it's cheap, but the NFL wants to back glitter and glam, something like the original concept Eddie D. had (which connected to a shopping complex).

-And finally...

3. The NFL simply won't touch that pile of s**t because of the horrible parking conditions, and the lack thereof of being able to broadcast a primetime game (MNF). Think of all the lost commercial revenue at stake, there's no way in hell the NFL will ever support this deal.

Clements FA signing to name one.

Agreed, but the question remains: why are we kissing the league's and the commisioner's a**?? Is it simply that we are run by a bunch of wimps, or is there a method to the madness? It pisses me off right now, so I am trying desperately to maintain some hope that something positive is to be gained....

I think the NFL will get behind Santa Clara in a second if the Raiders are part of the deal. I know that's an emotional issue with Niner fans but to get the NFL fully engaged the Niners and Raiders need to partner up . . . but not necessarily before the election.

I also think the Monday Night thing is a red-herring. Compensating Great America for revenue loss equal to a typical Monday night after fall semester starts would be chump change. Hell they could simply give Great America a % of the gate fee to get into their lot. $20-40 bucks in a 100% full parking lot would probably dwarf their typical revenue, not to mention reduced payroll for the day.

I don't have any issues with the design other than I'd like to see a big sound funneling overhang on the bowl section.
