"Young" excuse is dumb. Almost every team in the league is "young" and if they are not, it's not by that far off.

young yes, but I do not agree with what you are saying.
Our coaching has been average, but what we are lacking is a qb with some heart /Fire.
If you look at the best qb's who have played and the Qb's who have played for the niners.
They all have one thing in common- That is...leadership and fire. That is what Alex Smith lacks! Untill he can develop this trait or we can bring someone in here who has that competitive edge, We are going to be in trouble.

1) A Delanie Walker fumble inside the redzone.
2) Too many penalties.
3) Too much pressure and too many sacks allowed.
4) Bad interceptions at bad times.
5) Continued tentative Punt Return game.

This team has been sloppy across the board.

Alex Smith was bad today, but his performance is NOT an excuse for the rest of the team to play horrific. I'm sorry but Alex isn't out there false-starting, getting illegal contact penalties, letting Desean Jackson fly by him, letting Celek loose for a game-sealing first down, missing blocks, letting defenders come free to sack him, letting the ball drop on a punt return and roll to our 1.

We need upgrades everywhere.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!

Don't you get it?? When this team wins, it is DESPITE THE QUARTERBACK. The team overcomes Alex's total "worst quarterback ever" suckiness. However, when the team LOSES, IT IS ALL ALEX'S FAULT!!!!1!!1! The rest of the team has NOTHING to do with it, because of Alex's total "worst quarterback ever" suckiness.

Read more Niner Talk and u'll larns more about how foosball REALLY works, N00b!!1!!

They are young. So are other teams.

They have some inexperienced players but also some vets.

They ARE poorly coached:
The HC is still a rookie just completely his first full season, lacking in offensive knowledge.
The DC is a sophmore and sometimes seems to "get it" but others not so much.
The OC has shown himself to be incapable of stringing plays together or designing plays on a par with other competent OCs around the league. He was third choice and now showing us why.

Individually, the worst is Chris Foerster, OL coach. His shortcomings I, and others, have chronicled in another thread so I won't repeat it here.

Not too far behind him is the TE coach, with an asterisk. * Vernon Davis STILL does not understand how to fun patterns or read defenses. Either Davis is just too dumb to learn or Pete Hoerner needs to be replaced. Davis is finishing his fourth year in the league and still is the worst route runner of any starting TE in the league.

The WRs are a question mark to me. I see how utterly sophmoric the pass patterns are, and how frequently receivers do not run routes deep enough to get first downs, etc. Even a good HS team could defend the 49er receivers. I don't know if this is Jerry Sullivan not coaching them well, they are too dumb to get it, or Jimmy Rayes offense is so lacking in creativity that it has no hope. Perhaps it is some of all of these.

Those are the big three. The overall lack of team speed is hurting them defending wide running plays and in the deep secondary. Part of that is coaching as well as inexperience.

I hope Singletary has learned enough from this season to make some changes in staff as well as spend some time in the off-season studying what good offensive teams do, including reviewing the Walsh Offense, which, BTW, Andy Reid still uses very well.

We have not been well-prepared for some years now.

Dump Smith now and quit blaming the rest of the team for his lack of everything. I mean waive him now and look for another answer as he isn't it.

Yeh cuz Alex did a horrible job covering Desean Jackson and he missed several sacks on Donovan McNabb. Oh and he fumbled on the 10 yard line.

Correct.

It started when ownership waited so late in the off-season to hire Mike Nolan that all the quality position coaches were already committed to other teams. The resulting list of staff was horrible. I don't even remember most of the names.

It is just as bad now as in the Nolan years, the only difference is the quality of players has improved a good deal.
