a) the oline
b) offensive playcalling
c) the weather
d) the short week for practice

And the sad part is that this guy has a guaranteed starting spot for next season, which means another wasted season. We'll have to wait until 2011 I guess.....

You're like a broken record. I feel sorry for your spouse.

And Alex Smith apologists are like battered wives.

You guys don't know him like I do! I know deep down he loves me!

Where the hell have you seasoned vets been all season ? Ive been getting bashed by the newbies all season long, while guys like you and crzy hide in the vets forum.

Of course you forget that there are plenty of vets who have challenged you and made you look silly on the game forums.

Yeah, when Alex has a great game against a scrub opponent, you guys are all over his jock. Yet, when he fails repeatedly against a real team, the excuses come out. Sure made me look silly.

My point is on game day threads you and other Smith haters say silly things like why doesn't Smith roll left. Well, a QB doesn't roll in the opposite direction that he throws or he'd be throwing against his body. That is a no-no in the NFL.

I never say that. What I DO point out are the little things that count over the course of the game.

For example, his constant passing to receivers that havent passed the 1st down marker on 3rd downs, hence leaving the team short and forcing a punt. Yeah sure..you can blame the receiver once or twice...but when a team goes 0-whatever on 3rd down, somewhere along the line you have to question the QBs decision making ability.

Second, that he consistently ignores his receivers throughout the game......going to Davis over and over.......until the defense finally catches up and takes advantage. 2 TOs were forced by Smith on bad passes to VD, a 3rd was a throw to Walker with the defense swarming. When does he get the receivers involved ? When the game is all said and done.

I pointed both of these things out in the first quarter, and you people jumped on my throat for attacking Smith. I guess I wasnt that far off, was I ?
The one thing i am glad going into the offseason is that McClueless didnt commit to Smith for next year

& Cohn's article was right on every aspect of it PERFECT article.

9ers beware of Mr Phony.

Management dont buy into his performances come next week or the week after.

He was being pc when he answered that. Smith will still be the starter in 2010. Here's my problem with smith haters, when he performs well and lose such as in seattle you rant and rant about how he didn't do well on the final drive. He has a bad day today and you all explode. Who do you expect to start next year? A rookie? A vet? If a vet, who because nobody is available. Period. The 9ers will finish 8 and 8. Philly is hot and we absolutely are not a winning team in many aspects.

There's one rule when it comes to discussing Alex Smith. NONE OF IT IS HIS FAULT!

Or... It's ALL his fault!

There is such a big support group, and a big hate group. Rare is it to see a post from someone who's view lies somewhere in the middle, when it comes to Smith.

Tough day for him today though, that's for sure.

look all am saying is if he starts next season its still going to be losing season with him so why not start of fresh
take what we can with a rookie & look to the future sooner then later its just going to delay the development of a Rookie that eventually will take over when Smith gets booted out of town witch will be next year.

I CANT WAIT FOR HIM TO GET RUNNED OUT OF TOWN
ill be throwing a BIG bash when it happens.

The reason why I criticized those points is simple: you have nothing to base you're argument upon. We don't know the playbook. We don't see the entire field. And even the most knowledgeable of the poster here (and I'm certainly not among them) do not know nearly as much as a coach.

So you can criticize when Smith misses a receiver. Or when he does not lead them. But to say he should more to the WRs. He should throw to someone who is beyond the hasmarks is ridiculous because in order to do that you need a knowledge that no one outside the NFL has.

I got what your sayin homie, sorry I just seriously LOL'd when I read "RUNNED out of town"
Did it ever occur to ZF40 that the reason he was ignoring certain WR is because they had not separated from their coverage? Either Smith is stupid, or he had a reason for passing to who he did.

He's been doing it all season ! WAKE UP !
Smith played plain old bad today. He knows it. We know it. Everyone knows it.

But thats not the big picture.

The big picture: Our offense made decent strides the last 10 games. Alex is playing better and more confident. He's more assertive and is more of a leader. But he isnt where we want him to be. We have the talent. The problem: we are bi polar and inconsistent. This is going to happen when we have sharing of reps, no continuity, no identity, and NO chemistry between QB and WR/TEs. Our play calling is brilliant one week, putrid the next, and an enigma week in week out.

All that said...this next off season really is crucial. If we fail next year, I expect, Scot, Sing, Raye, and Smith gone. Its Smith's final year anyway so that takes care of that.

Alex Smith is NOT the answer.

Once again, in a pivotal game where he has an opportunity to really show that he can lift a team on his own shoulders and carry us to a win, he instead wilts and throws exasperating interceptions along with a generally piss poor performance.

Move on - keep him as the starter for this year and the next but we must go find another QB in the draft if need be, to replace him.

The sooner the better.
