You should know this, you're an English Major, no?

So...technically, this can't be a fluke, since we've done this more than once, and we seem to be excelling at it.

LOL isn't Maddog the same guy who said we should've drafted that mediocre/bust Safety who went to Oakland, instead of Vernon Davis?

IDK if it was madddogg but i know a few ppl said it and they were dead wrong.
WINiner, i thot i was unusually careful NOT to insult anybody. I merely said i agreed with Dog, and that this team is a good .500 team, no better ,no worse. I DID point out the (unnecessary) 250 + really vile things said about Dog, and I added, "but he is right". I then followed that up with why i thot we weren't as good, nor Az as bad as it seemed. (altho, apparently, last 3 yrs we seem to have their number). I listed the huge holes we need to fill, and parenthetically, should we fill those, this could be a very good team. I think if you reread my post(which you kindly reproduced again), you will be hard pressed to find where i insulted anyone or insinuated others were morons. Why? Because that isnt' my style. My opinion pretty much parallels what Dog wrote Re: the team. In no instance did i insult anyone. Stating a different opinion, without epithets, is not insulting anyone.

Now, back to reality.

Niners' fans have to take this game for what it is: A fluke. The Cardinals are a better team than the Niners right now, but as we know, every game is a new game, and you can only take one game at a time. This was one game. A great game for the Niners, and a stinker for the Cards.

Any victory is sweet, but the reality is that the Cardinals had no business turning the ball over seven times. Our defense is simply not that good, and their offense is simply not that bad. I hope fans do not expect the defense to be a turnover-creating machine from every game on out. This was an exception.

The same goes for Frank Gore, who looked terrific. However, let's not kid ourselves. Gore is a middle of the road running back. He's going to have a few great games, some average games, and some poor games. This was one of those special nights where everything fell into place.

The offensive line opened up huge holes, and dominated the Cardinals DL throughout the game. However, this is not our normal OL. We have struggled all season, and I doubt this one game changes the reality that our line generally stinks.

And, I sincerely doubt that our team suddenly falls back into the "smashmouth" philosophy. Who would we be kidding? We are a passing team that works best when the field is spread out. It just so happened that for one week, we could line up in a regular offensive formation and run at will.

Our CB's contained Fitzgerald and Boldin to less than 70 yards receiving TOTAL, but let's be realistic. Our passing defense was amongst the worst in the NFL going into the game, and I sincerely doubt that we are going to play weekly at a high level. It was just a wierd, wierd game.

And, finally, for those who think the Niners' pass rush has been solved, this would be another mirage. No doubt that we should salute the excellent effort of Justin Smith, Ahmad Brooks, Parys Haralson, and company. But once again, the offensive line performance this week by the Cardinals was a joke. If they played this poorly the week before, they would have surrendered 56 sacks to Jared Allen and the Vikings. They just stunk for a week, and we looked fresh.

So, while celebrating this victory, which was very sweet, the reality is that this game is indicative of the NFL. One week you can stink, and the next you can shine. The week before, the Cards whacked the Vikings and the Niners lose to the crappy Seahawks. This week, the Seahawks were crushed by the Texans 34-7, the Vikings destroyed the Bengals 30-10, and the Niners defeat a good Cardinals team.

So, I raise a toast to the David Baas', Dashon Goldson's, Ahmad Brooks', Dre Bly's, Adam Snyder's of the world this week, fully knowing that these players had terrific games. But, let's be realistic in our expectation of these guys down the road.

It is simply one week in the NFL. One wild and wacky week.

YOU ARE SERIOUSLY DELUSIONAL. Gore is a top 5 rb, we have the best TE in the game, and they are both in the top of their positions considering we have a BOTTOM 5 OL.

Now our D is definitely one of the top 10 in the nfl, with the best LB core or at least top 3, The DL is top 3 against the run, and our secondary is good.

As a team we are for sure better than ARIZONA in all aspects except for QB and WR SS. So we are better than the Cards......Back to reality

No, he wasnt on the WZ then. I beleive you are thinking of krizay, he and I had some heated debates, yet civil, he wanted Huff, I wanted VD.

For whatever it's worth, I agree with almost everything he said in that post, which is a rarity. That game was a perfect storm, and it would be difficult to replicate. I think the team that we "actually" are is a lot closer to the team that lost to the Seahawks than the one that forced 7 TOs and ran at will on the Cards.

I agree here.

Now I love MD's draft input. But hate his view on the team and the way he comes across to others.

And I agree with LA, and MD. Yep we got a young and great D on the rise. And yep, we have the makings of a spread O.

How we played against Seattle is how our future is gonna look like, especially if Alex is our man for the future. With the weapons we have on O, its hard not to think that we are gonna toss it around 55% of the time regardless. All we need is the whole team an offseason, and TC to get Gore involved more. I am confident he is an effective back for this new spread attack we have going. They all need time.

Our D will only get better, but 7 TO's is a rarity...and I like everyone else is still fukin jacked up on that game. BRING ON THE EAGLES...and MD, stop attracting so much attention, you whore.
now what whould he have said if we had lost?

Somebody else. I was at the draft in NYC, and was very happy with the selection.

Still wasn't a fluke!
The only things that might of been a fluke was the OL
the rest of the team seems legit
except for Haralson
he is terrible and can't tackle to save his life

I was thinking the "stroke of luck". Even bad teams do not turn the ball over seven times in a game, and as stated before, the CB's are simply not that good, as was seen today in the Eagles game. Just too many oddities to be anything more than a fluke.

As for winning both games, that is not the fluke. It was the matter in which the team defeated the Cards this past week.

The coverage today was nothing like the coverage against Fitzgerald and Boldin. The OL today reverted back to the form that we know...and don't love.

I respectfully dissagree about our coverage. Philly has speed outside which is our poison. The fact that we contained them and didn't make fools out of ourselfs like the giants shows me that we did alright and that wasn't the real problem today
