Oh yeah, how about the all world young QB like Cutler, Ryan or Flacco? A big step forward? In your dreams, haters. Just ask Chicago or compare Cutler's statistics to Smith's numbers.

Smith is better than Cutler. Cutler is really wild and doesn't make good decisions. He gets all that love for the big arm but honestly I can see Smith having the better career. Alex makes pretty good decisions overall and is much more accurate lately. He still needs a little better accuracy on the short to medium range stuff. But his deep ball is pretty good when he's on.
Interesting stats...(bored @ work)

He's most likeky to throw a pick on 1st down.
His best down is 3rd and 4th.

You hit the nail right on the head my friend. Excellent insightful post.
- Give Smith the same OC for more than one season for the first time in his career
- Give Crabtree his first training camp ever and the chance to work consistently with Smith through the whole thing
- Upgrade at right tackle and maybe the guard positions

That's all Smith needs to be quite successful.

Last night the commentators were going on and on about what a bad situation Smith has had for his whole NFL career. He's finally getting a reasonable chance to succeed.
I think they're at least sure about Alex Smith for 2010, which for him will be the year when NO excuses can be applied . . . BY ANYBODY

1. He'll be healthy (knock on wood)
2. He'll have the the same OC for the first time in his career.
3. He'll have a full compliment of offensive weapons from OTA's to opening day.
4. He should have an improved o-line.

He's done enough to earn the keys for 2010 . . . after that ????

eh
we'll give him the benefit of the doubt and have Alex Smith as our starter for one more year and evaluate from there.

This upcoming draft is suppose to be relatively strong and we can use the two first round picks on either RT/DE/S/CB given the situation when draft time comes.

With a full year of Crabtree and hopefully the same Offensive Coordinator to bring continuity for Smith.. the Niners should be competitive

And yeah, if not, Jake Locker opted to stay in Washington another year lol.

At this point, Smith has done enough to earn a shot with the team next year. No more, no less.

He's done better than many may have expected, but he is a far cry from looking great.

These last few games will be tell. Partially because 1 will be against a pretty good team that he needs to beat to have any shot at the post season, so how he plays will be an important measuring stick, and partially because two will be against teams that he should be able to beat fairly easily if we are half the team we think we are and he is half the QB we hope he is (or can be).

But as of yet, he has only shown that he's good enough to not be considered a bust. Not that he deserves to be our starter going forward. Even if we feel our team is ready to compete next year, we certainly don't want to be ALMOST there, but still short at QB.

He needs to show over the next 3 games, that there is no QB that we will draft or have a shot at through trade or FA which will improve our chances of winning versus continuing on with him at the helm.

Even without the though of him regressing, do we think he will improve? Or has he capped out and will he be a Kyle Orton or Rex Grossman at best? He needs to show that not only can he play to an acceptable level in the NFL, but he is ready to take that next step and be the leader of a playoff caliber team.
It sounds like the Niners are doing exactly what I said they should do on another post I made. They are evaluating Alex Smith to see if he's worth remaining the starter versus going and getting another player. The title of this post is accurate even though so many young fans don't like to hear it, but nobody other than some young fans is completely sold on Smith. 144 yds, 2 td's and 2 int's for the game just doesn't make people sure about you.

Jigga Please. Thats not true at all. We all want what is best for the Niners. The real difference between zoners is some have the football knowledge to make predictions and others don't. Those who make predictions will sometimes be right and sometimes be wrong. Those who are unwilling or unable to make predictions will never be wrong or right, which sounds pretty good, but that approach has its consequence as well. When you have to wait to see what you have, you are undoubtedly losing while you are waiting...and you could be wasting a whole bunch of time. That is the difference between zoners. Were all fans of the team.

A lot of you guys may be uncertain about Smith but I don't think Sing and Scotty are. If you refer the the presser today and read between the lines the overall theme with the QB is reps with the players around him and reps in the offense. So it looks to me like the 49ers are going with Smith and in my opinion that is absolutely the right move.

If Alex and Crabs both had training camp together, with Alex getting all 1st team reps of course, the 9ers would be in the playoffs.

why would we change anything with our QB's? Smith is our man, Hill is a great back-up and Nate can take his sweet ass time learning the ropes.

We can finally redirect our attention onto others areas of need and continue to develop a supporting cast for our QB's.

O Line, Safety, RB, Pass Rush, Oline
The funny thing is everybody is saying they are not sold on Smith, and mabye they are right, but last night he outplayed Warner and when it counted he moved the rock. I think the kid will be fine with a full off-season and training camp ith the same OC and wide-outs. Your thoughts. PEACE FROM THE FAN
