QBs with the longest streak of at least 2 TDs per game this year:

1st - Drew rees - 5 weeks

2nd - Alex Smith - 4

Damn....nice......

Big kudos to Alex for that.

He really has come a long way. Its quite the story actually. It would be cool to see it as a half time special when we are blowing someone out in the play offs in the near future (next year of course).

woot. Keep it going alex!

ALEX PLAYED LESS GAMES TO.

He is being noticed by several pundits as Comeback Player of the Year.

Mortenson mentioned him along with several others before the Seattle game. Also the TV color guy for the Seattle game - I don't recall his name. Todd Ryan???? He is a new guy.
49ers Total Access #17

Watch the one on one interview with QB Alex Smith in the beginning. Its pretty good.

Boy, how shrewd was Walsh. I remember Kemp did a very nice job subbing for Montana. I just don't remember him being that mobile. I would imagine other coaches would be happy to keep Kemp as the eventual starter after Montana (if he gets hurt) , but Walsh traded away Kemp, an experienced backup in his offense, for an inexperience, running for his life Steve Young from the lowly Tampa Bay as the eventual replacement of Montana

The Zone thread at that time would be 'WTF! WALSH!?'

I'm not sure what the correct media response is but if Smith were to go something like 22 of 38, 280 yards, 3 TDs, no picks, and the 49ers beat Philly 27 -20, I'm sure he would be a finalist for the selection.

Yeah, and that is in the realm of possibilities.... unless it snows....

I can't believe no one has mentioned the one area which I saw the most improvement from Alex Smith tonight. THE HARD COUNT. He was able to draw the Cardinals offsides on three seprate occasions. Good QBs do this all of the time. (Brady, Manning, Favre)

This illustrates my point...

Article Here...

Quote:
SANTA CLARA – Alex Smith's bark took the bite out of the Arizona pass rush Monday night. Entering the game, the plan was for Smith to vary his cadence and induce the aggressive Cardinals defensive linemen – primarily defensive tackle Darnell Dockett – to jump offside. The plan worked. Smith drew three encroachment penalties on 49ers' opening drive. More important, it made the Cardinals cautious and hesitant for the remainder of the game.

What I would love to see is Alex Smith have his Interception to Td Ratio at 1:1 for his career before the season ends. His career statistics currently are 32 Touchdown passes with 38 Interceptions. With the poise and Leadership he is beginning to display, my goal for him is to enter the 2010 season at 39+ Tds and 39- interceptions. It maybe far-fetched but if he ends up doing it, it proves that he IS our quarterback.

i think hes already proven hes our QB. dont act like he has to prove himself in 3 games to end the season, 2 of which are against cream puffs.

whether or not he ends the year with a bang, hes our guy next year. if not because hes looked great, but just because hes the best guy we got.

people can say "hill wins! smith doesnt! hill should play!" all they want, but hill also took it on the chin against ATL. weve been in every single game Smith's play in this year. nobody has proven to be a significantly better team.

Smith almost lead us back against HOU, we nearly beat Indy, who is 13-0, we almost pulled one out against TEN, Smith again lead us back to almost beat GB, and we almost won in SEA.

the common theme with Smith as QB, is us sucking for too much in the first half, before finally pulling our heads out of our butts, and Smith giving it all hes got in the 2nd half to try and pull us out of the hole.

I agree. But there are tons of people on this board who will never like Smith. It is pretty clear that the organization is going with Smith. What will confirm that is the draft and FA market when they probably will only pick up a veteran QB to backup Smith (if they let Hill go). I just don't see this team drafting a QB when we need pieces at other positions to make this team into a playoff contender.
Don't turn the ball over, don't make stupid decisions, win a couple games, and have fun

Which he hasn't done yet! Smitt needs to at least play well in Philly, and theen beat STL and DTW. To be good, you have to stand with the best and beat the teams you are supposed to...

Well if im not mistaken we have lost at least half or more of our games this season by 7 pts or less.

And honestly can we stop with the proving himself mess. I mean everytime he overcomes one thing not all but some of you guys bring up another.

Besides the Houston game, I think he has stepped up tremendously. I think before the Seattle game, we said niners had to win that one, he helped us win.

AFter the 3 game losing skid. At the Bears (sentimental of coaches old days) he HELPED us win that game as a team.

We lost against the PACK, then said to ourselves, this is it right here, we need to win this next game for any shot. We win against the Jags.

Then we have the SeaHawks, 10 drop game, i dont even think i have to speak on that one. The TEAM lost that game, while Smith had his regular 2 td's and over 300+. (Which was something again those said he couldnt do.)

Play the cards, and everyone or 75% of America expected us to lose, but what happens. Smith throws 2 TD passes, and yes Gore was the man of the night, but had it not been for those 2TD passes, we would of lost.

Warner, Manning, Mcnabb, Brees, etc, all have bad games, and just like someone said, Smith, and not even them, besides Brees, has 2td passes in each game for the past 4 weeks. Not too mention he outplayed Warner, a HOF QB.

So i just say can we please stop with every week saying ok, he has to show us this not, or that now. I mean because he IS our QB, dont lose sight that he is one of the factors that go into why it may be slim, but we are still in the playoff hunt.

IMHO, he has gone above and beyond in this short span, and proved that he's not the same guy he was years back. And because of that, i think just as long as he doesnt have a total breakdown. I think with the final 3 games, he'd have to play horrible, and his TD ratio to INT's would have to be almost 2 to 3 int's for every 1 TD. And i just dont see that happening.
