IMHO...Davis looked BETTER in his 1st preseason games than Alex Smith did in his 1st preaseason games. That's is why I am excited about Nate Davis. Does that mean Nate is and will be better? I can't say. But it does indicate to me that Nate has POTENTIAL.

Having said that, I think we should give Alex Smith the starting job for the remainder of this year and NEXT year, and lets build the offense around Alex Smith and see if he can take us to playoffs next year.

However, if I was management/coaching, I would promote Nate Davis to the #2 spot behind Alex. Remember guys, the #2 guy is one injury away from starting. If Alex gets hurt, I would rather see Nate Davis develop and play than Shaun Hill.

They were playing different caliber players. I was encouraged by what I saw of Davis in the pre-season. If they bring him along carefully he might turn out to be a good NFL quarterback. I hope so. But it is Smith's development the Niners better be most concerned with now. That means playing as many snaps this year as he can.

I think that if Davis can impress that he might actually have a shot at the #2 next year. I don't think that Hill's skills are suited to where this offense seems to be heading. Davis' are. I think it will really show us a lot about what the Niners think about his development based on whether they give him a real shot to be the #2 next year as opposed to giving it to Hill or more likely by bringing in a free-agent.
lets start him

Stupid people won't stop breeding, so my guess would be no.
DOPE
I was a huge critic of smith, and would agree with this if smith had played poorly. Fortunately, he has not done so yet. I am still worried about how he plays under center, but overall he is showing good signs in his playing time. Even now that the season is lost, he still needs the reps and the experience.

I would only suggest playing Davis in STL or DET, if the score gets wayyyy out of hand.

Smith is doing a lot better than I thought he would. Still does those Smith things, but obviously has improved a lot.

Still, when the playoffs are officially out of reach, then the end of the season should be practice for next year, a pre-pre season.

Let's see what Davis can do against starters.

It would be better for Smith to sit for a half as part of a planned discovery process than to simply be yanked.

It is very important for the team to know exactly what they have at QB prior to the draft.

Oh, and I don't care what the team's record is if they don't make the post-season. That is only important to coach's employment and, well, I sure don't care about that.

two words....

UP!

No he's not, him and Kory Sheets and D.Zeigler will lead us to a Super Bowl, you just watch mister, it's gonna happen

You forgot about Michael Clayton. Him and Sheets will be our two-headed monster!

Thomas Clayton

Damn it! I knew I had got something wrong.
I'm ok with him playing some...if we're either blown out or way ahead, maybe in the Lion or Rams games. But, Alex needs to play as much as he can...he's got the better part of two lost years to make up for and the more progress he makes this year, the better it'll be for the offense during the off-season to prep for next year.

if we lose to AZ and we're out of the playoff hunt, it can't hurt. AS has proven himself and should be the starter next year. Davis is the backup and we should draft another QB to secure ourselves...let hill go
