If he is progressing, then why so many INT's?

If he is not progressing, then why so many TD's?

If his is progressing, then why 1-3 in his starts?

If he is not progressing, then why are these games all so close -- 1 possession games -- even on the road?

If he is progressing, then WTF with the sub-par performance taking snaps directly from center?

If he is not progressing, then what's with the 90+ passer rating from the shotgun?

It is just very weird. 6 games to figure it all out.

When Smith is in the gun, and his first option is open Smith can get him the ball (His passes to Davis were things of beauty.) Unfortunately, a winning QB has to be able to do more than that. Smith's shortcomings have been stated above. Can he outgrow them? History says no.

What?

Oh you mean like check down to the next Receiver and so on and so forth?

Smith has done that too as far as I am aware of.

That's it, SCRAP THIS EXPERIMENT Smith has officially shown that even though he can do the things that we expect of him; he is an outright Loser and will bring bad luck with him into every game where he is present.

Can't coach that. Can't Win with that and definitely can't bring that onto the sidelines. Just can't be done.

I'm not a Smith hater, and I hate Shaun Hill..but here is my beef with Smith. When the game is in his hands, and he has the chance to win the game..he chokes.

For example against GB, he throws that TD in our own redzone..GB goes back and scores a TD. Please don't try to blame Davis, it falls on our QB. That basically wrapped up the game, without that TD we would have held them to 23 points and possibly winning the game.

Against the Titans same thing, pick 6 and we ended up losing. Against the Texans he throws a pick to end the game. Please I know our OL sucks and our play calling is horrible. We all know that, but when it matters most Smith hasn't proved to anyone that he can take this team downfield and win a game for us. It's always something, that's why no one is sold on Smith. I could care less if he throws 50 TD's but he throws 10 picks and all those picks costs us the game. Again please don't try to blame our D for giving up those TD's to CJ, I want you to see what he does when the game is in his hands.

I know he isn't the only f**king up, our D is giving up way too many points and can't stop anyone on 3rd down. I want Smith to succeed, trust me I do. Franchise QB's face adversity and WIN games, they don't put it on their OL, or on the play calling. At the end of the game there is a W in the column.

Is it possible that once we open it up more and use the spread that Smith will be better? I sure hope so. Is it possible that with a solid OL Smith will be the QB we've always wanted? I f**king hope so.

Until then though I am not sold on him.

The same can be said about the defense. If they had just one stop on 3rd down. If they had learned to tackle and not let Jennings run for 60+ yards for a TD. Smith isn't the only one to blame for a loss. Football is a team sport. Smith got the team with in 6 points with 6 minutes on the clock and the defense failed to put the ball back in his hands to win the game. IMO Smith did what he could and did a great job doing it. Yea he threw 1 INT but guess what Peyton Manning threw 2 INT's last week. does that mean he sucks and should be cut??

I never said that, Manning threw two picks but still led his team down the field and won the game. That's my point. Smith can throw 4 picks, I don't care as long as when it matters most he WINS the game for us.

Why do you think everyone is starting to be on Vince's Young's nuts? He's not putting pretty numbers, but he's doing enough to win the game. Did you see the last game against the Texans? He drove down the field, got his team in field position to get the FG and they won. No one cares about what the D did or how the OL did. All they saw was that Young didn't f**k it up in the end. That's what I'm missing from Alex, I want him to take command of the team and win it for us.

That play happened at the beginning of the 4th quarter and hardly sealed the deal. Regardless the pass was intended for Walker, not Davis. Both Walker and Davis were running deep routes. The play was designed so that both would cut across with Walker being a couple yards further downfield than Davis.

Smith said that he was trying to hit Davis and threw too early, but I guess he was confused.

So you expect Smith to be able to counter balance the defense letting the other team scoring 30 pts ever game?

The guy has had one chance to go on a 4th quarter game winning drive. One, and in that game he'd already thrown for 3 TDs.

He didn't have that chance against TN because we were down two TDs when he got the ball back with just under 3 min left. He still managed to get us a TD in 2 min.

He didn't have the chance against the Colts either because the defense couldn't give him the ball back

And against GB he didn't have the chance because our vaunted run defense let GB run for 40 something yards on their last drive.

So, by my count he's had exactly 1 game where he had a chance to be the hero and that was a game where he came off the bench after not throwing a pass for 2 years.

Yup, you're right--the guy can't win games when he has the chance.

Did he not throw the pick that resulted in 6 points to GB? Which we lost because of that pick. Go ahead and blame the D all you want, the D would have given up 23 points to a high powered GB offense. Who cares if Grant rushed for 14237402 yards, point is we had only given up 23 points.

Did he not throw the pick 6 against TEN which just gave us no chance of coming back?

Against the Colts I blame that on our play calling, I never once mentioned the Colts game above.

You're hating on Smith because he hasn't led the team on a game winning drive. Kinda hard to do that if he's not got a chance to do so.

I'll give you TN. He had a bad day there--every QB does. Kurt Warner threw 5 TDs in one game earlier this year and he's a future HOF. The pick against GB happened at the beginning of the 4th Q. They got their score with 11:05 left. Alex managed to lead two TD drives in that quarter and still leave 6 min left on the board for the defense to get us the ball back.

but that's what I'm saying, when it matters most he's chocked. Hopefully with much improved OL and with Raye not being a dumbass Smith wont be put into those situations.

and this is seriously called hating? I'm just pointing out what I see during the game.

Do you have a link to the quote? I'd like to read it. If so that's completely on him.

If that's the case why do we even have Delanie Walker in there as a receiver? I can see keeping him back but he just seems to take up space on the team.

When it matters most? He came back and scored 2 TD's when it mattered MOST in that game. Now if the defense had given him another chance and he choked I would agree with you. But it just didn't happen, just like it hasn't happened all season.

I don't remember seeing Smith say that anywhere, and I read/watch everything Niners(at least I thought I did), so i'd like a link too. QB's will do that, take responsibility for things, even if they're wrong. That's one thing we don't see with this team is finger pointing.

I think someone here posted a link to it a few days ago. I think it was something about how he said the clock in your head runs a little bit faster when backed up in your own endzone and he threw it early before Davis expected it.
