Coordinator carousel: If Rivera gets Carolina HC, look for Greg Manusky to be pegged to replace him in SD. With Fangio likely 49ers' DC.

timkawakami

All signs point to Fangio as 49ers' DC. Which ruins the prospect of Harbaugh hiring Rob Ryan & potentially brawling (& winning) every week.

You know, after last week, it's so difficult to consider anything from the media about Jim Harbaugh. Dude even does misdirection with the media.

49ers PR: Jim, people are asking about your staff.

Jim: Tell them Rob Ryan knows my brother. Then after a few days, we will shift towards the Pete Carrol for DC and we will finally shift to Vic. Do you think you can do that without false starting?

PR: I think so.

Well it helps with believing the info that Harbaugh only has one agent right now... not two putting out different info.
Darrell Bevell....... I hope Jim at least interviews him. Also like Mike McCoy but he does not have very much background in the WCO but at least some. He was a training camp QB with the 49ers in the 90's and was on the Panthers staff in 01 when Harbaugh played for the team and George Siefert was HC.

He's gone too.

No way Trestman comes back here. Eddie will grabs the mic..

We have learned from Singletary that an OC does as his HC commands.

Trestman has a nice resume with us.

He returned to the NFL in 1995 as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator with San Francisco, where he served in that capacity through 1996. The first year he was there the 49ers led the NFL with 457 points scored, 644 pass attempts and 4,779 passing yards.

Trestman moved to the Detroit Lions and quarterbacks coach in 1997. That year Lion's quarterback Scott Mitchell passed for 3,484 yards, second most in team history.

In 1998 he was with the Arizona Cardinals as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. That year quarterback Jake Plummer threw for 3,737 yards, and the Cardinals made the playoffs for the first time since 1982 and won their first post season game in 51 years.

He next went to the Oakland Raiders in 2001 as the quarterbacks coach. In 2002 he was promoted to offensive coordinator and the Raiders led the NFL in total offense with 389.8 yards per game and passing yards with 279.7 per game. That Raider team made it to the Super Bowl but lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He has improved since he left us, I agreed. Not sure that Trestman or Eddie have gotten over that part. The guy was given one year with us. Expectation was too high back then.

Yeah, Marc WAS a Superbowl OC, and the only reason the Raiders lost was due to the fact that Callahan refused to toss Gruden's playbook (from his previous tenor with Oak; which was word-for-word).

I remember the Eddie D "you're fired!" incident on live television, but Marc was done up raw; any offense would look like s**t with Derek Loville at RB;with Seifert's inability to fill Ricky Watters' shoes (leaving the team one-dimensional).

But that 49ers offense didn't look like s**t if you look at the stats. We lost our key offensive player in Watters and we still led the league in passing.

Trestman would leave Canada in two seconds for an NFL job.

Eddie D. has NO say what so ever with who will be on Harbaughs staff.

Trestman was here two years as offensive coordinator.

Timkawakami - The 49ers will hire someboday as DC. Greg Manuskey will be employed next year by an NFL team.

You don't think Trestman remembers how Eddie D, Jed's uncle canned him as 49ers OC. Fans hated Trestman as OC when he was here in 95 and 96. Bill Walsh had to come in and be a consultant midway through the 96 season. Trestman is not coming here and I hope he does not. I prefer Darrell Bevell, Mike McCoy or David Shaw as a QB/s/OC. In the end though, I think Harbaugh will call plays for the 49ers, at least his first season here.

I thought it was only one year...but it was a bit unfair what happened to him. But still funny though.

Exactly!!! Eddie D needed a scapegoat to take his anger out on. I would be happy getting Trestman back (the Raiders connection between Jim & Marc makes it an obvious hire).

Otherwise, I'd be happy with David Shaw (from Stanford), dude was Gruden's offensive quality control man at both Philly (when Jon was OC) and Oakland (when Jon was HC), before he helped Harbaugh put together those genius gameplans at Stanford.
Not quite feeling with Fangio.. His defenses never rated out all that highly and seemed to get worse over time. I think I would rather see Manusky return along with better secondary and linebacker coaches.

I don't think Trestman still holds a grudge. And if Harbaugh offers him a job then he would be stupid to pass it up and i don't think he would. You forget they were #1 in points in 94 and #3 in points in 95, so its not like the offense fell apart. They had NO running game, i still don't know how they thought replacing Ricky Waters with Derrick Loville was a good idea. So with no running game they had one of the better offenses in the NFL. And Harbaugh was on the Raiders Superbowl staff that had Trestman as offensive coordinator. And FYI there is zero chance any of those coaches you listed will be coaching here. Harbaugh is not going hmmm i like the WCO let me see who coached here back in the day or kinda runs it and hire them. He is going hmmm i worked with this guy and stayed in contact with them I'm going to give them a call and offer them a job or i will talk to people my brother knows. David Shaw will probably be Stanford's next coach so that is why he is probably looking for a new offensive coordinator.
