Practically all of Harbaugh's Stanford staff has NFL experience. Example, Vic Fangio has over 20 years of experience in the NFL, including being the DC for the Panthers in the late 90's when they had a great defense.

Harbaugh brought in Fangio specifically to fix Stanford's defense. Before Fangio arrived, their defense was atrocious. Living in North Carolina, I remember the Panthers' defense of the late 90s, and they were pretty awesome. That was when they had Kevin Greene and Sam Mills, and they'd always cause fits for Steve Young and the 49ers when the Panthers used to be in the NFC West.

An aggressive, blitzing defense will be better than the soft Cover-4 approach that Manusky used too frequently.

QB: Harbaugh plus some guy we never heard of who does what Harbaugh tells him to do.

DC: Vic Fangio
DL: Jim Tomsula

ST: Jeff Rodgers/Brian Polian

Kinda dreamy on the offensive side . . .
Look for 49ers HC Jim Harbaugh to bring Stanford's Vic Fangio with him as SF's new defensive coordinator.

I could live with that. I was starting to get tired of Manusky's soft defense.

Well, we're lacking a great pass rusher, but with QB being such a need, I don't know when it's going to be addressed. The last great pass rusher we've had was Charles Haley, roughly a decade ago and he was past his prime. Andre Carter was the last decent pass rusher we've had. Maybe we trade out of the #7 spot and get a QB and pass rush specialist.

Keep Solari

Keep Munusku
Keep rathman
Keep Johnson

He brings in OC .

If you look at it, this team had a very talented coaching staff. The problem was that the Head Coach didnt let anyone do their own s**t.

f**k that, get rid of all these losers

Solari, Brown, Johnson and Manusky all need to take a hike.

Seconded, keep Rathman b/c his and Harbaugh's vision of the running game seem to mesh. Keep Tomsula because he's actually the one coach has coached his units up well. Franklin had career years here and he kind of maximized Soap. The rest of those guys should be freed. I think even if Manusky doesn't get the Carolina job, its academic that Harbaugh brings in his own guy.

I was really hoping Harbaugh would leave the majority of the defensive coaching staff in tact, particularly Manusky and Tomsula. Manusky is interviewing for the Panthers HC spot today and i think if he gets it he will probably take the d coaching staff with him. What kind of defense did Stanford run last season?

Did you not watch our defense this season??

In total defense we ranked 13. Still had to deal with the 24th ranking offense that threw 15 interceptions to only 19 touchdowns all year. On average, the defense was on the field for over half of every single game. Team defense ranked higher than Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis, and even New England. All that aside, here's an interesting article from sfgate.com on Vic Fangio.

Sounds about right!
Gonna have to go with the corny "Company Line" on this one:
Whoever Baalke/Harbaugh decide upon. Period.

I have to hope that Baalke is in fact the "bright, new" NFL GM, and has a good read on the existing various coordinators and coaches. He knows the strengths/weaknesses of each, and who could work well in the new scheme.

Harbaugh knows which of his assistants from Stanford will be able to handle the job at the NFL level, and which of those will be willing to follow him to SF.

Baalke and Harbaugh go over the list and figure out how many positions are still needed, and figure out who will best fill these positions based upon prior knowledge and interviews with prospective candidates. They have to be people who Harbaugh absolutely wants on his staff, and Baalke has no objection to. Hopefully a good mix of experience and young "up & comers".

It's usually tough to get somebody to come from another team to your team for the same position (i.e., OC with the Jets to OC with the 9ers) unless there is an additional title or the old team wants to make a change. I think some of the names mentioned so far would be a bit of a reach unless the "Assistant HC" title were brought into play, and I don't think they should go that direction.
