OC will depend on if Shaw gets the HC job at Stanford if not he's our guy. Something tells me our interest in McDaniels was for OC not HC so I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up on JH's staff

position coaches:
I think JH has to be smart enough to know Solari is one of the best OL coaches around so he'll keep him and Ray Brown

Same goes for Hoener as TE coaches

Rathman will remain our RB coach he and JH worked together at Oak and JH will not fire someone with 49er ties IMO

Tomsula stays the players love him, Jed York and Baalke have said they would like to keep him around and he's a heck of a coach

Other than that I think JH will hire a very good staff and get to work on evaluating the players.

Hopefully when he talks to Willis he's convinced to keep Spikes and Franklin. After that I hope they re-sign Westbrooke and Baas and give extensions to D.Walker, Morgan, R.Mac. Offer Lawson and Goldston market value contracts, if they don't want it let them walk.

I would love to see us get both a vet and a young QB in the 1st or 2nd round to develope. Whoever Jim wants Palmer, McNabb, Kolb, Orton whatever he thinks but I want to win now

GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!!

Seriously though, this is exactly how I feel. To the T. Whether or not people want to acknowledge it, there are some quality coaches on our staff. You listed them above. Dead on with the players too.

Harbaugh is picking the staff not Baalke so anyone the 49ers have looked doesn't mean they will be coordinators here. Id say McDaniels has no shot here.

Somehow I didn't see that part there. I don't believe for a second that all these ex-head coaches will be on the staff. I'm sure it'll be a collection of current 9er staffer, Stanford guys, and guys from around the league. Doubt any big names come. Why hire a guy you know will get another shot as a head coach in, say, a year?

offensive coordinator: Bill Callahan, Marc Trestman or Jim Zorn if David Shaw takes Stanford job.
As Nebraska fan and resident, I'm SOOOO wary of Callahan. He doesn't know how to coach an o-line though. He's just too big a personality for me. Seems like there could be conflict. I wonder how they got along in Oakland?

FWIW, Ratto was on CSN saying Stanford will probably try to retain one of the coordinators as HC. He named Shaw as probably the guy they will try to keep.

With the questions regarding the new CBA that will create some doubts about when Harbaugh can start implementing his system, he would be wise to retain Mike Johnson (at least in some capacity) so there will be continuity. If things go badly with the CBA, Harbaugh may have to go with some form of last year's offensive playbook.

Their paths have crossed before.

Harbaugh played 14 NFL seasons as quarterback with Chicago, Indianapolis, Baltimore and San Diego. In his final season, Harbaugh's quarterbacks coach with the Chargers was 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Johnson.

thanks.
I don't see Jim keeping too much of the current staff. Seriously, if their were so many good guys on staff, then why didn't any of them speak to Sing about getting out coached on gameday? I thin Jim only retains a couple of guys on a team that was outcoached all year.

lol itd be so classic if we hired the Raiders HC to be our OL coach. John Goodman's twin brother on the staff punching coaching assistants...

While I agree Harbaugh will probably want his own guys, there are a few on this staff that should stick around. About speaking to Sing about getting out coached on game day, what is the point? Sing had to be one of the most stubborn coaches I've had had the chance to watch. He wanted s**t done his way and IMO no one was able to tell him different. This is the same guy that wants to run the clock out when we have a lead and it's only in the first quarter. Go for the f**king jugular man. One reason why I love the Harbaugh pick as coach. He'll stay agressive, that's what we need around here.

you can almost bet Tomsula will be back as DL coach. i think the 49ers really want to keep him around. enough to tell Harbaugh "we want to retain him."

imo Fangio sounds good, but our D isnt really our problem. Manusky took a step back this year, but most the team did. he helped build our D into the run stopping force it is now, so it may be foolish to cut all ties to the defensive staff. we definitely need some help with the DB's.

i doubt Manusky would step down to LB coach.

Jason Tarver been OQC, RB, and the last 6-7 years LB coach, all since 2001. hes been here forever, and our LB have always been our strong point. maybe he should be retained too. plus hes one of our only links to that 12-4 season in 2001.

i cant believe Singletary spit in his face by hiring his friends and family to coach "outside linebackers" and be a "pass rush specialist" its like he cut Tarvers job into 3 after all these years of being with the team, and made him only responsible for MLB. id be insulted if i were him.

I'm intersted to see what Harbaugh thinks of Mike Johnson.
In the few games he was allowed to call he was very creative.
Let's see.

Keepers:
Rathman- link to BWs greatness
Solari&Brown- link to BW's greatness
Tomsula has done a nice job with our D line, they hardly were our problem

get rid of
Manusky Bend and then break defence
DB coaches- over the years we were one of the worst passing defences in the league

worth thinking bout keeping
Mike Johnson
bring steve young as our QB coach !
Panthers flying to SF to interview Manusky certainly offers some backing to them actually going for him - but may also be a sign of his commitment to us. Sticking around to speak with the new HC and discuss plans...

I still think DC is the position where Harbaugh has to be certain he has his guy.

At OC I think Harbaugh will do a lot of the play design and calling, so kind of like NE, Philly, etc, the offense is a reflection of the HC more than any OC. Although obviously he needs someone that can get his message across in practice.

And the effect of the CBA cannot be underestimated. Keeping the likes of Tomsula and/or others around will offer some coaches perspective of the roster. When there is a chance there may be no training sessions until August he needs to trust other opinions on the players already here.

Conversations with them will give him some idea - but it may be an idea that even if he wants to completely change the staff he does it partially this year, and completes the changes next year. Unless there is some socking acceleration in the CBA discussions.
Out of all the coaches on the niners the ones I see coming back are Solari, Brown, Tomsula(lets face it the DL is still good despite the fact we need a pass rusher),Schottenheimer and Rathman.

On chronicle live I was hearing that Stanford likely will hire a coach from outside. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Roman,Shaw,Hamilton and Fangio follow Harbaugh to the niners.
one thing is having one coach without experience, but having the whole staff without NFL experience.. i dunno..
