good post man i agree
i also agree with what the coaching staff is doing. alex has been through hell in the nfl and someone needs to take care of him for once and bring him along at a pace. throwing him into the fire didn't work so i like the fact that we are taking another approach.

True but at the same time we need to know what he can do....if Raye is indeed "Protecting" Alex then it could be a disservice to Alex & the team. We saw he can rocket the ball to any receiver on the team & move chains. He improvised plays when they broke down in the Titan & Bears games....no doubt their signs of improvement...he still makes mistakes & should be able to learn from them. But if he's reigned in...he could see this as a lack of trust...

From what we've seen, it seems plausible to have a leash on Alex. The play selection after he threw the pick was very conservative and he helped it along by throwing a lot of check downs. That said, they have to let him throw early in every game to keep the defense honest. Even if it is picked off the pass served its purpose and an early turnover is easier to overcome than a late one.

Ok, it's pretty common on here to claim the team has no confidence in Alex Smith, and that is why they didn't throw the ball last night late in the game.
Here is another view to consider: Raye didn't put Smith in the position where he might commit a turnover that could lose the game because Raye and Singletary want to build up Alex's confidence.
They didn't want to risk a turnover and a resultant loss, as they were afraid of what it would do to the already damaged psyche of Alex Smith. How many times has Singletary said he doesn't want to put Smith in that position? Singletary no doubt feels Smith was mishandled by Nolan, and he is trying to do everything in his power to correct this.
Jimmy Raye has said Alex Smith had NO confidence at the beginning of this season. He and Singletary are trying to build Smith up for the future, and they don't want to risk that now. Sure, they don't trust Smith yet -- they don't trust Smith to recover if he throws a pick (or several) that cost us the game. They know that without confidence there is no hope for Smith. Without a functioning Smith, there is no hope for this season (or next).
Raye is protecting Smith and Sing is protecting Raye...
