Hate to disillusion you(actually... no I don't) but Nate was NEVER a shut down Corner. Teams don't throw on a shut down Corner. i.e. a Deion Sanders kind of Corner. Nate has NEVER been that.

But he's always been solid. And as a rule of thumb as far as Corners go even solid Corners have bad days. When the Defense is playing average or better as a unit Nate is solid. When the Defense is having a bad day Nate is average to bad. SOMETIMES though he is the lone shining spot on the unit.

I really wish that people would keep their knee in check and leave stuff like this alone.

It's better to waste a thread on the poor performance of the D and the causes of it rather than single one or two guys out as the cause. Especially when our D is ranked numero uno in Rush Defense.

That right there is great an all but in the first 5 games they were GASSED by the start of the 2nd half and that's with a 15 minute stay of execution.

This is a TEAM sport. There are reasons leading to everything. It's not just on ONE guy but ALL guys.

Keep him but he needs his contract to be restructured to save cap space. (If there will be one).

This plus move him to safety!

It wouldn't make any sense to get rid of one of your best players which is exactly why Scot will do it.

Still a solid corner but he hasn't lived up to his paycheck. His contract needs to be restructured or he needs to find a way to magically heal his shoulder and come up with some miracle 9 INT season to earn his paycheck this year.
6.5 mil is not that bad of a contract. I wouldn't consider cutting him.
Keep him til his career is over.
Keep him IF he's willing to restructure his contract...and, at this point, I'm thinking the off-season is the time to try him at S, either SS or FS. With is tackling ability, he could be good there. Tarrel Brown is ready to be the starting CB...but that'd mean we draft a good one, too.

If you look at it he is one of the best players on our team. These are the best guys.

1) Patrick Willis.
2) Frank Gore.
3) Vernon Davis.
4) Nate Clements.
5) Justin Smith.

Do you want to get rid of a top 5 player on a still vastly under talented team?... We should pay more guys too much money in FA so we can improve our team and stop losing so much.

No I would not want to get rid of him ever. I think he's a little overpaid but I agree he is one of the top players on our team. He's not above Justin Smith but he's up there. With that said he's getting alot of coin and with the depth at CB it's debatable whether the 9ers will want to fork over that kind of $$ for him. Hense all the articles surrounding the topic.
Keep him for sure! But move him to free safety. He would be an awesome safety. As for his outrageous contract... that should be restructured. But I don't really care about the money. He is a good player, just a little to slow now to be a CB against fast WRs. He would be a great safety though.

Wow.

He's one of the best playes on our team. Doesn't anybody remember the clowns we had at CB for 4 - 5 years before he got here?... He is much maligned because of his $80 Million contract. He may not be great all the time especially in coverage but he is a VERY GOOD CB and he helps our team.

That's what FA is. You overpay to get the best available players. But that doesn't mean he isn't a good player and doesn't help this team.

Seriously. Who do people think is going to replace him? Yeah he gets beat every once in a while, but before him we were torched EVERY GAME.
I say keep him and give him a slight pay cut but 6.5 million isn't outrageous contract. Moving him to safety isn't gonna work Draft a real safety leave Nate at CB. Just have to face the facts that he got overpaid and is just a slighty above average CB and nothing more.

This. He is a great matchup for the bigger WRs like Fitz, just not speed guys.
