Nate Clements Keep him or cut/trade him after the season? (Poll)

I don't think people realize how much better our DB's would be with a consistent passrush............

If you look at it he is one of the best players on our team. These are the best guys.

1) Patrick Willis.
2) Frank Gore.
3) Vernon Davis.
4) Nate Clements.
5) Justin Smith.

Do you want to get rid of a top 5 player on a still vastly under talented team?... We should pay more guys too much money in FA so we can improve our team and stop losing so much.

I'm a big advocate of Nate Clements not living up to his signing hype, but it would be ridiculous to cut our #1 CB, especially with the $$ we've invested in him.

He still is the best CB on our roster with his physicality, and even though he is losing a step somewhat; and -- he can be put at SS to fill the void left by Michael Lewis (who I think might be done the poor guy has had way too many concussions he needs to think of his future health now).

I want to see him at Safety.

Keep yes, but it's time for him to realize he made his money. The REAL pro restructure, Peyton Manning has done it to keep Jeff Saturday.

He's not losing a step. He's just as fast as he ever was. He's never been great in coverage. His plus has always been the way he hits around the line of scrimage as a CB. And he is a good but not great cover corner. He is what he always was. People who expected someting different weren't being realistic.

Not that long ago people also wanted to cut Spencer. lol

Getting rid of him would create a huge hole that we dont need to deal with, he needs to play saftey tho.

how many years have we heard spencer will never start?

Maybe Nate Clements isn't as good as we thought he would be, but he's not garbage either. At least as long as he's kept far away from Roddy White.

Remember Tyrone Drakeford? Rod Woodson? R.J. McQuarters? Mike Rumph? Now THAT was garbage.

But without anything remotely resembling a consistent pass rush (hello? Manny Lawson? Hello? Is this thing on?), no cornerback is going to be dazzling in this defense. I'm not thrilled by Clements, but do you really think Tarrell Brown is ready to go for the rest of the season?

I have to disagree. He is most definitely losing a step. He is getting slow -- while never a burner, he was pretty quick in cuts and on gambles in Buffalo and for the first 2 years of our team. I just think he has gotten slower overall -- he's almost 30 and is looking more suited to play safety.

And if people weren't expecting a great cover corner when we signed him at the height of career for a contract that made him the top paid defender in the league, then you are trippin. He was considered to be the end-all of our #1 WR match-up woes at the time of his signing.
