Ok, the game is lost, but the 2nd half looked primising. Why should'nt we play a system that favors Alex' strengths ? Lets play some spread offense. Lets play Crabtree, Morgan, Bruce, Jones and Hill. Lets move Gore around, he can be very effective as a pass catcher , too. Lets get Vernon and D.Walker out in the slot, ... I think we have the personal to play spread.
I think the oline looked way better in the 2nd half pass blocking than they did run blocking in half 1. ANd the playcalling was ok, too.
Why not ?

It's not just Smith, Crabtree excelled in a spread offense as well.

B. Jones also has to play next week. He had good connection with Alex in training camp. I think he will have great success if we do spread with the WR we have.

damn alzheimers
But seriously, I think we should incorperate some elements of the spread but I still want us to run the ball. Hopefully this opens up the run game a little more.

You yet to wonder if Hill's strength's/weaknesses held the team back more than the o-line. You have to remember that this team played to Hill's abilities, now that you have a QB in that can throw the ball (and release it quicker) you see the ball being thrown more.
It's really more simple than you could imagine. For guy that hasn't taken a snap in 2 years Alex Smith looked really cool and calm in the pocket. He even shrugged off a defender to scramble for a first down (like that shrug he did in his last greatest game against the Seahawks).

Yes, of course his weaknesses held the team back. Since defenses could stack the line, they would have more players at the line for stopping the run AND rushing the QB. Seems like Arizona has been run blitzing us with Adrian Wilson on almost every play for the past two years. With Alex Smith back there, he can get it behind the secondary and burn the blitz, like any good QB in the NFL can do.

I've always thought Smith should play in this style offense, and it's not like no one else does it. Brady plays like this all the time.

The offense did look better. We shouldn't get ahead of ourselves, though, because opposing defenses haven't had a chance to game plan against our spread formations. The Texans defense isn't that great and they were caught off-guard.
Also, when you play a team like Indy, I don't think we matchup well in a shootout. We have to have a run game to be successful. But the idea of being able to go down the field and score points quickly has been missing from the 9ers O for a while.
It'll be interesting to see how we approach our offense and how opposing defenses game plan against us. If nothing, atleast we're going to be fun to watch on *both* sides of the ball. When was the last time you could say that about our team?
