Obvious offense?

There are several problems with our approach, it is way too obvious what we are trying to do in two of our formations which we use close to 50% of the time. Here is a look at some packages we run:

Package Plays % of plays
2RB,2WR,1TE 85 29.8%
2RB,1WR,2TE 54 18.9%
1RB,2WR,2TE 64 22.5%
3TE 0WR 0RB 4 1.4%
1RB,3WR,1TE 78 27.4%

We pass 58 of 67 (not including sacks of which there were 8) times in 3WR set, so it is pretty obvious we are passing out of that formation. more than likely the team is going to nickel D in the instance, possible dime if there is longer yardage and they can probably blitz us given the success they have had.

With 2RBs (RB/FB), 2TE and 1WR, we run 77% of the time (40/52, not including two sacks), so again pretty obvious what we are trying to do out fo this formation.

The only formation where are more balanced is 2RB, 2WR and 1TE 45 runs vs 36 passes and 4 sacks. Interestingly enough, this is where we are gaining most of our yards.

Package Yds % of total yards
2RB,2WR,1TE (all) 489 35.7%
2RB,1WR,2TE (all) 199 14.5%
1RB,2WR,2TE (all) 243 17.7%
3TE 0WR 0RB (all) 1 0.1%
1RB,3WR,1TE (all) 438 32.0%

We are also more balanced using the 1RB, 2WR 2TE set, but passing 60% of the time

We haven't run any plays with 4WR or 2RB /3WRs this entire season

In other words, Raye is an idiot.

We should be running a lot more play action pass out of the formation we like to run in. The 1WR formation is really lame, we have run it 18% of the time and are averaging 3.3 yds per carry.

The 2RB, 2WR 1TE set for instance we are averaging 6 yds a carry.

We should be doing a lot of things differently. Far too predictable. In this league, you have to have talent, but you have to outsmart your opponent as well. We definitely aren't doing that.

Plain Vanilla...Predictable....Boring ....

We have yet to see any creativity out of him

we have had other OC's here that knew how to move the ball even though we didnt have a ton of talent on the roster.

Even if we had a pro bowl RT, RG, WR on the roster, Raye would still stick to his boring schemes

I often feel you can get so much more out of your talent if you know how to exploit matchups... Atlanta used our blitzes against by having the quick slants and what not. Minn started passing more to exploit our bad passing defense. I feel the same about our o... We are not loaded with talent but jimmy raye is not taking advantage of certain matchups... Nor does he ever adjust the gasmeplan during half time

--The spread offense has helped him to make this transition, he said. He said he ran 60 routes a day in practice at Texas Tech. "You get here, and you substitute that with blocking. It's fun." He said had at least 10 different routes he ran at Tech. Coach Mike Leach also stressed blocking, just as they do with the 49ers, he said.

That's from http://blog.pressdemocrat.com/49ers/2009/10/michael-crabtree-talks-football-part-2.html.

first off...excellent analysis dude. really good breakdown of what is going on.

secondly, if us fans on a forum are doing this for fun, that idiot raye who does this for a living should have seen this type of pattern developing. which can only mean that he doesn't further enforcing his idiocy.

thirdly, and unforntunately sing did say that he wanted this type of offense where we could impose our will. so in obvious running situations/formations he was basically advertising that we would be running.

fourthly, coaching has sucked up to this point evidenced by the analysis of formations. but so has the execution, our talent is well not talented yet. so its a cluster f**k of bad acquisitions/bad coaching/bad play. that would be the trifect of cluster f**king the offense.

and hence fifthly, that is why we suck royally on offense.

sorry the obviousness in this post made me need to post.

I really hope he changes some things up after this bye week, like the Falcons did to us.

not new news that raye is an idiot lol, just look at our offense for poof haha
Ok let's see. Run on first down. Run on second down. Incomplete pass on third down. Punt. What's not to like?
I predict by the end of the season our Defense will score more points than this Offense!
