Chalk another one up for Coach Sing.....

List of players who have clearly developed under Coach Singletary

  • Patrick Willis
  • Vernon Davis
  • Alex Smith
  • Manny Lawson
  • Tarrell Brown
  • Dashon Goldson
  • Aubrayu Franklin
  • Ahmad Brooks

Besides Willis, these guys were practically nothing under Nolan.

I wouldn't knock Nolan for their development. Well, not completely.

These guys all benifited from gaining a couple years of experience and then some playing time. I think fans are way too quick to write players off. Most guys need 3 or 4 years to become effective players. Fans look for immediate impacts and like to blame the coaching staff when it doesn't happen.

Well... name someone other than Willis or Gore that improved under Nolan. It's just hard to do so.

Singletary gets our players playing faster and harder through motivation alone. There's still something missing and that's development of players who don't have that immediate impact talent.
I still feel that our assintant coaching, aside from Manusky, need to be overhauled.

Those teams arent any better than ours. I dont think you realize how untalented this team was from 03 till now. It takes time to add talent.

especially when you have to do it through the crapshoot called a draft.
I get your point, but the Jets passing attack is still garbage.
This team is going to surprise you. Right when you write them off, they come back with a big win. The guys that I have been most critical have been.....

David Baas and Chilo Rachal.....David Baas played out of his mind tonight. He really played a good game. And Chilo hasn't played well, but he still is very young. The line stepped it up against a very good defensive line.

Dashon Goldson has played out of control and has not been an impact player. WOW...he was probably the Defensive MVP last night. Two Forced fumbles and a huge interception. He was really laying the lumber last night, I had flashbacks of Ronnie. I forget this is his first starting season.

Our Pass Rush with Manny, Brooks and Haralson......these guys have turned it on as of late. Haralson is probably the weak link, but if Manusky can somehow rotate these guys and keep them fresh.....maybe our pass rush isn't so bad.

Scott Mcloughan was on the hot seat. If Alex Smith, Vernon, even Crabtree, don't break out this year, maybe we have a new GM.

Horrible Picks by Scott

Jonas Jennings - our first big Free Agent I think he really hurt our team. The guy was made of Glass. Whenever he played though he was dominant.
Brandon Williams 3rd round pick - was terrible from day one and was run out of town.
Jay Moore and Joe Cohen - 4th Round picks need to make an impact on the team
Michael Robinson - 4th Round pick - too high for him, he is a nice player but they probably could have got him later
Rasheed Marshall - 5th Rounder WHO?

Other noteworthy picks by Scott

Justin Smith - The Cowboy has been great for us. He was a steal and is very much like Bryant Young. He fits in nicely.
Ahmad Brooks - I think he is going to pay huge dividends for us in the future
Aubrayo Franklin - SIGN THIS GUY.....Franchise him.....our D line is very solid with him
Brit Miller - I like him for the future as a fullback ala Rathman....very hardnosed player
Delanie Walker - Nice sixth round pick....I like the way they use him but he gets lost in the shuffle at times, he has great hands and a nice burst.
Barry Sims - For Cheap he is playing really great, if we didn't have him we would be in deep trouble.

Guys we have no idea about and some of the reason why Scott is under fire

Reggie Smith 2nd Round - Haven't seen anything from this guy let's hope he surfaces like Goldson
Brandon Jones High priced FA & 3rd Round Jason Hill - Both of these guys got hurt and then fell way behind when we were power running team. I think one of these guys emerges next year with a full offseason with Jimmy Raye.
Kentwan Balmer 1st Round Pick - Still not the force he needs to be and I get crazy whenever I see Desean Jackson score a touchdown or run back a punt.
Cody Wallace 4th Round - hasn't sniffed it yet hopefully he is being groomed

Guys with upside

Nate Davis 5th round - I really like this pick. He showed great stuff in the Preaseason and has a cannon for an arm. DEVELOP THIS GUY HE COULD BE THE FUTURE.
Scott McKillop 5th Round - Has a nose for the ball. Could be our future inside Linebacker
Ricky Jean Francois - 7th Round - Has the skills you want, but how is his head will this guy bust his ass in the offseason and elevate his game? Who knows?
Tarrell Brown - 5th Round - I liked his game last night, and he could be a future starter but he needs to be more consistent.
Glen Coffee - 3rd Round - Tough player who doesn't go down very easily. He is strong with Blitz Protection, but is does he have the vision like Frank or the extra gear that separates yourself from the rest of the pack? Hopefully he trains with Frank in the offseason.

Guys that are on the Hot Seat for next year and could lose their job

Michael Lewis - One of the reasons why our secondary gets burned over the middle. He is a sure tackler, but is slow. I think he could be gone or demoted.
Adam Synder - Still isn't consistent, but a very nice backup that can play either side.
Nate Clements - Isn't the shut down guy that we thought he was. I really think this guy could be a force at Safety, but I don't think he moves.
David Baas - Played a nice game, but has been inconsistent....he is in his free agency year so they might let him go.
Josh Morgan - I don't think he's on the hot seat to get thrown off the team, but he needs to keep working and running better routes. I like the way he blocks, catches and is a tough player, but is he the threat like Crabtree or Vernon.
Forester - Offensive Line Coach, he needs to prove that he can develop the line which has looked terrible this season.

POTENTIAL DRAFT PICKS (Need versus Best Player Available)

Next years offseason and Draft are Critical for the Franchise. This team isn't far away talent wise, we are pretty solid across the board. We just need to make strong picks and can't afford to whiff on our 1st rounders

1st Round (probably 9 or 10 overall)
1st Round (Probably 13 to 17th overall) - depending on how we end up
2nd Round
3rd Round
4th Round
5th Round
6th Round
7th Round

Potential First Round Picks and needs.....I wish we had 3 first round picks!

Offensive Tackle - Trent Williams
Offensive Guard - Free Agent here (Probably 2nd round pick)
Safety and Corner - Taylor Mays / Joe Haden
Speedy Running Back, Slot Receiver, Kick Returner - CJ Spiller / Javid Best?

Yes, my friends it has been a very frustrating season for the NINERS, but I see some similarities from the Past with Bill Walsh. Keep in Mind the Singletary has been here under Nolan, but this is his first full season. We have found out that he is flexible, and willing to put rookie or young players into the lineup (unlike nolan) and change the team strategy (go to the spread) to win games. I even like Jimmy Raye as the Offensive Coordinator because he is a teacher and he has so much experience with all kinds of offensives that he can take this team in the offseason and really mold it into something special. WE ARE NOT FAR AWAY. This season could have been completely different if we win at Indy and Minn (which we should have), and we sign Crabtree early so he comes to camp.

We did expose Shaun Hill as non starter material and find out that Alex Smith has got some game, so WE DO NOT HAVE TO DRAFT A QUARTERBACK EARLY.

The comparison for the 1980 season and our season. The team wins three early games has four losses in a row, and then wins three in a row. They show fire and come from behind 3 to 35 at halftime at the saints to win 38 to 35. The team shows heart and a desire to win all they need to do is work on the defense.

This team is much better than the 1980 niners and I don't think they need as many pieces to fill as the 1981 niners did with a whole secondary, inside linebacker and pass rush specialist.

We need to add the right pieces to our current mix and WE LOOK VERY STRONG!!!!

GO NINERS DONT LOSE FAITH!!!
Isn't reading this quote frustrating? I still feel that with us, it extends to other positions.

"In the past five years, there have been 23 offensive linemen selected in the first round. Twenty-two of those players were considered starters from the beginning. Four players the past two seasons missed the bulk of their rookie seasons with injuries."

I agree - "fan"tastic post!

The thing about Coach Sing is he gives his young players a chance. He lets them play. We would hardly see any rookies play, Sing wants to see what they can do.
we need both, upgraded talent and upgrade in coaches who can teach & motivate.

He was still responsible for bringing almost all of them to the 9ers in the first place... No matter how much people want to bad mouth Nolan, then niners would not be close to where they are right now without him.
