QB Situation Poll

find me someone nwew please for Nate davis to learn under. He could be a solid number two perhaps more. Never know till he plays. I'd like to See Alex and Hill gone. Experiment time over.

yet you want to experiment with a QB who has no practice time at QB this year other than what he did against 3rd and 4th string preseason players

Wow!

None of the above! I said this last year and I will say it again!

WE DO NOT HAVE AN NFL STARTING QB ON THIS TEAM!

For now move Hill to 3rd string, get Davis some reps.

Cut Hill at the seasons end.

Let Alex start the rest of the way, but bring Davis in in spots to see how he reacts.

IF we can not sign a top tier free agent QB in the of season Alex will most likely have to start another season!

We should no matter how well Davis or Smith plays down the stretch draft a top tier QB in the first round.

Next season our depth chart should read:

Farve, Davis Rookie, or some other quality free agent
OR
Smith, Davis, Rookie

Bring back Alex Smith but also draft another QB just in case Alex continues to fail. Always have a back up plan, don't put all your eggs in one basket.

I wouldn't draft another QB. I would continue to develop Davis. Bring in a Veteran QB to back up Smith.

Davis is not the one. They should think about drafting Jimmy Clausen

we have bigger needs! doesn't matter who's back there if our o-line is still the s**tty mess it is today. i'm not defending alex, but we definitely have bigger needs -- OL/secondary

No other need is ever as big as the need for a quality QB.
What the team really needs to do is to adopt a QB Pipeline policy that says that only statarters or future prospective starters can be on the roster.

That would immediately mean that Shaun Hill should not be on the team next year and that the team would draft a QB to compete with Davis for number 2 next year.

To develop Davis the 49ers should get him in the last game to introduce him to game speed before the offseason program

After the 2010 season..if Alex disappoints, then he is no longer a starter candidate and is traded or let go. Then Nate, the 2010 draftee and the 2011 draftee can compete for the 2011 starting job.

Everything i hear from McNabb to Bilichek praised Nate Davis for his mechanics, fast delivery, instinct for the position, power arm and that he already knows how throw the to touch pass. Raye says he plays fast without hurrying. He can make every pass on the field and is accurate. What the team is doing now with him is criminal...He isn't getting reps and has been practiciing at CB and WR. This is because we have a non developmental QB in Shaun Hill on the roster. Scot needs to understand that we need to have multiple shots on goal here...and no room for long term #2's

What the team

my question to you: do you think Tom Brady would be the same Tom Brady behind this line? I feel you that we need a quality QB, and I am not saying Alex is or isn't, but I feel like if we gave him a better line and he didn't feel pressure instantly, he'd look better -- when he has had time he has looked efficient.

You want Nate Davis to play and the more experience QBs gone but you say "Experiment time over." WTF?

I agree w/ you Brodie--we cannot continue down the Alex Smith trail. The big question though is when does the organization decide that Alex Smith is a disappointment and he no longer is our guy at QB? For me it was the Philly game knowing he really had a chance to show us what he had--instead he played like crap and I'm afraid it will be more of the same. We need to get Nate Davis some reps in practice and some game time here in the next couple weeks. I don 't believe we draft another QB ih the upper rounds until we find out what we have in Davis.

Never really thought about it, but I really like this philosophy.

My take:

1. Cut Rossum and Spurlock, frees up two roster spots. (Crabtree has one open spot)

2. Pick up Brian Brohm off Green Bay's practice squad.

3. keep 4 QB's this year.

4. Cut our losses with Alex Smith.

5. Develop Nate Davis and Brian Brohm for the future, a veteran can always be picked up.

Looks like our boy Brohm may get the start this week.

THE NEWS
The Buffalo News reports that Brian Brohm is the likely starting quarterback this week against the Falcons.
OUR VIEW
Ryan Fitzpatrick injured his ankle against the Patriots last week and was last seen on crutches. Brohm has been awful in his previous appearances in the NFL, but the Bills season is lost and they need to find out what they have. With him starting, it's unwise to start Terrell Owens or Lee Evans.

Dammit and all we needed to do was claim him.
