I think he did good, I liked the plays called better than martz's offense. There were a few things I thought were strange. 1. before halftime we did like 4 shotgun draws.. they worked but, calling the same play is odd. 2. Wtf 2 min drill before halftime? Otherwise it looked good, even with the 3rd stringers running it.

That's exactly what I was thinking, why would you run the clock out on a PRESEASON game?! Why not see what Davis can do? Or practice the 2 min drill

You make a valid point.
However, I see two reason not to run the 2 minute drill.We do not want to tilt our hands in preason. In addition, we do not want to risk injuries in a meaningless preseason.
For our sake, hope I am right.

we seem to utilize davis more and he showed soft hands on the 2 catches and great effort.

it was decent. looked better than when hostler called plays in preseason. i would like to see a deep ball once in a while. thats my only critque really

He called the misdirection very well. If Smith had completed that screen pass to Coffee, it would have been a huge play as it was WIDE open. Raye saw something there. Look what happened on the Huard throw to Miller and the Smith rollout TD throw. Those 3 misdirection plays were all WIDE open.

Yeah I saw that too, there was a huge hole for Coffee to run if that pass would have been completed

Who cares? Preseason is not the time to try play calling, it's more about executing plays regardless of defense, not trying to catch a DC off guard. At least not the 1st game.

Well then, look at it this way. Those plays were very well executed...except for A. Smith.

True, the execution-part will come, but play-calling is just as much an art form as it is a science. The OC needs to provide a certain rythym/flow to the offense, which we really haven't had since Norv was calling plays.

Thursday, there just seemed to be a much better flow (which is a good sign, IMO).

agreed. sheets should be used outside more, he's too small to be an inside runner, he lacks the power that gore has. i think a few sweeps and options would be very effective with his speed

Might Sheets have been running plays that had been scripted for Clayton before he went down?

Good overall. Nice mixture of run and pass. I thought that some of the "odd" playcalls had to do with them wanting to preserve our players and not risk injury.
