He showed some promise but also proved to be an idiot with the Bengals but who doesn't right?
He had enough potential that the 9ers picked him up right away when the Bengals let him go
He showed enough to get invited back to camp
I for one am REALLY hoping for this guy to realize his potential and show us something this year. He could really big a HUGE boost to the D, imagine if Brooks showed his college potential this year how awesome the D could be?
Call it will be stick and show some of that potential on the filed or suck it up and get cut

Regret is a very odd choice of words. I didn't run over a nun. However, on the board, not giving automatic "A" grades to all player personnel decisions the Niners make appears worse that stabbing baby seals, or bombing nightclubs. I tell you what, to make you happy, I will express my deepest regrets for all the pain and suffering I imposed on you...not.
As for being dead wrong, a half of one season does not make or break a player or draft class. We will see over time. Hopefully, my C grade will be an undervaluing of the true value of this class, but way too early to state. But, for now, if it gives you a tingle up and down your leg, please feel free to call victory.

If the entire 2011 draft class died in the plane crash tomorrow, they'd still get a B.

....maybe you should stop speaking in haughty absolutes and/or admit that, like any fan on this board, you are speaking from your own narrow viewpoint and biased assumptions.
Look, I know you are way smarter than I, and the 29 other executives around the league that saw the same thing in Brooks, that he was not worthy of any excitement, or even a roster spot. You win. We were all idiots, and should of kept looping that play in college where he jumps over the line of scrimmage to make a tackle. Mea culpa.
Methinks you are speaking in "haughty absolutes" when you accuse me of speaking in "haughty absolutes". So, I have an opinion. The problem only occures when my opinion does not match being a "Forty-Niner Faithful", or whatever crap is attached with being a blind homer, who thinks that all decisions made by management is gold, and every player that joins our team instantly becomes a star. It is called being a realist, living in a state of reality, not in some fantasy 49ers world.
Cheers.

when a team signs a player, the fans of that team want that player to do well, to be a surprise, or to cash in on their promise. There is nothing wrong with that. And when a team signs a player that has extraordinary talent but hasn't realized that talent yet, there is hope--based on precedent--that that player will realize his talent for that team. It happens. It happens somewhat often. There is nothing wrong with that.
Ahmad Brooks is a great example of a guy who needed good coaching and a change of scenery to maximize his potential. So people were excited about him? BFG. They were rewarded for that optimism. If he hadn't done well? Oh well, he would have been cut and everyone's life would have moved on. Not sure why some people seem so dead-set on changing the way fans think of their favorite teams and the men who play for those teams.

Well, Singletary did turn around Vernon Davis' career, too. So: that's two.
For the record, I know I'm smarter than you. I don't need you to tell me that, especially with the approach you took, which only proves it.
I addressed some of the ideas of what it means to be "a fan" or to be "an optimistic fan" in the post above this one. If that's not how you approach being a fan, that's your prerogative. But don't be so surprised or butthurt when things come full circle, and all that scorn and negativity you heap on the team and people on this board comes back to bite you. You are just another fan, but you adopt an attitude that seems to imply you are in some other category. A lot of people on this board don't like it, and as long as you keep doing it, whenever you are proven wrong, you are going to be called out for it.
That's the reality.
Cheers.

It is great to cheer for players, but to automatically make blanket statements that a player who is a colossal failure in the league is going to automatically resurrect his career just because he puts on a 49ers jersey is insanity. My statement regarding Marcus Hudson was to make a point. There were about 4000 threads on Ahmed Brooks when he joined the team, and zero on Hudson. Based on Brooks' career to that point, there should have been almost zero expectation of wild success.
Another case in point, a poll was posted after the draft this year: Who will be the best QB from this draft class? Objectivity just flies out the window when the board put CK at 60+ percent. Exchange CK with Mallett and you get 50%, with Newton 99% percent, with Gabbert 83%. It is just annoying. Sorry.

not sure why these things bother you so much. its true of pretty much every fan of every sport in the world.
also, making blanket statements that players are going to fail because you would have taken someone else or because they haven't been good so far or whatever is just as stupid. You are not immune from the illogical leaps you criticize so much, you just hide them in so much sneering arrogance that you think your opinions are unassailable.

The bottom line is that people cannot handle any criticism of the team. These are the same people who, instead of celebrating a 7-1 record, are scrolling through threads I made multiple years ago about marginal starters, waiting to "call me out". These individuals obviously need assistance. The team is winning, and they spend their time on tracking contrarian opinions from years ago.
