Cause they're good for a defensive player.....?

The same thing could be said for ANY of our defensive players.
I forget......how many sacks has ANYONE recorded this pre-season????? Lawson didn't even get credit for the freebie last week. Our pass rush sucks

yea but sacks is a glory stat. I would rather get pressure every play and not a single sack. Pressure causes the QB to make mistakes. Sacks just loses some yards.

Uhhh...... I don't totally agree with that statement. Sacks CAN cause turnovers and they also add wear and tear on the QB. But I guess you don't have to get a sack to hit the Qb either.
Bottom line; pressure is good, really good if you can hit he QB as he throws or right after he throws. But sacks are better IMO.

lets see, 1rst and 10 your defense gets a sack. ok bring on 2nd and 14. Now if it is 1rst and 10 and you pressure the QB you can force him to make a bad pass due to trying to elude the pass rush and get the ball out. Only he throws it right to your FS. Now the offense is back on the field the defense is fired up, the offense is fired up, the fans are fired up. I get your point sacks are way better

a 3rd down SACK is the ultimate.... especially if you are knocking the crap out of the Q.B.

Like I said, a SACK on defense is like a Home Run in baseball

I agree. He's looked great when we see him. Show me, don't tell me.

Great use of Coach Singletary's words.

You're so homophobic even the word sack makes you cringe
like a drunk college b***h in the middle of a drinking binge
on her way down the wrong path that leads to the tip of a needle syringe
trying to drown away the thoughts of her mama in her depends
whipin her ass from left to right to make sure she's cleansed
been takin care of her ever since she could remember
she has dreams about her mom in a tub cut up and dismembered
cut up by paul bunyan with his ax yellin timber
she stopped eating and now shes looking slimmer

Come on, be truthful, we know you.... you have heard more ridiculous.
Would you rather the D get pressure on every play or get a sack on every play? Sacking the QB is better.

I give up, I will have better luck getting my point across to a brick wall. At least the wall will know that a sack is not like a home run in baseball

If you play defense on football.... it is indeed comparable to a home run in baseball.

It changes the momentum of the game.... end of story
To be honest the only guy ive consistently noticed around the qb is marques harris. brooks has gotten some pressure though.

What everone is forgetting is that pressure and sacks go hand in hand. The teams that consistently generate lots of sacks over the course of a season. The teams that don't have many sacks over the course of the season don't generate much pressure.

fumble recovery and INT's will have a bigger impact than a sack. That sir is the END OF THE STORY!
Ah yes, I remember a couple years ago being tied 20-20 in the 4th and Bryant Young putting us ahead on that go ahead sack.

A believe the metaphor you were looking for was a Strike out. A sack is like a strike out, and like a strike out you need three of them to get back on offense where you score.
Can't wait for Ahmad to bring in all the sacks like a gangbang in the Castro district.

I think this is true, and like a homerun, sacks are worthless if you can't get them in bunches. One example of why sacks are a glory stat is Andre Carter. He had the least impressive season while recording double digit sacks in the history of football.

Sacks should be a by-product of consistent pressure on the QB.

Also, a 3rd down sack is not quite the ultimate. Forcing the opposing QB to step up in the pocket a half second before he is ready, play after play, is the ultimate. This is why the Giants beat the Pats in the Super Bowl.

Ultimately this debate on sack vs pressure is pointless since our players are simply not pass-rushers. This problem is compounded by the fact that our best rushers, Haralson, Smith, McDonald, are one-dimensional (ie cant stop the run) in the 3-4 because they are all undersized. (I would argue that Smith and McDonald would excel in a 4-3 but thats a wholly tangential argument). Therefore we are weak against the run on the edges just so we can get a little bit of passrush.
