Been reading over the SCPF gripe. Their main concerns is around two points.
The 49ers have stated they are putting up something like 500 million. But that number comes from the 49ers raising 330 in BSLs. Apparently (can't confirm or deny this) if the 49ers don't sell that much in BSLs then Santa Clara makes up the difference.
They also point out that there is no money in the G3 fund. Guess they didn't hear we got 200 million from the NFL.
So as far as I can tell they are upset at re-directing 67 million from the general public fund. That seems like a small price to pay to get a NFL stadium in your city.
They're gripe (at least the one they own up to) is that they say that the 49ers were going to pay for everything and now they are paying for almost nothing.
That's not what the original measure said. All Measure J said was that the city would not create new taxes, they wouldn't touch the General Fund, and the redevelopment agency (which no longer exists BTW...the state folded it) share would be capped at 70 Mil.
NONE of that has changed. They are griping because they say they should have to vote before the city takes out a loan for 850 million dollars.
It was ALWAYS going to be the city who was going to do that because THE CITY WILL OWN THE STADIUM. The 49ers will LEASE the space to play in the stadium and sign a contract to bind them to playing in it for an extended period. Those loans will be paid off by SBLs and corporate sponsorships (like Stadium naming rights).
They also don't like that the Niners have the option to allow the Raiders (or any other NFL team for that matter) to play there as well (even tho it was CLEARLY outloned in the measure). Not reading it isn't an excuse for not knowing. It was clearly written. It wasn't in the short version of the question, but no short version of the question is going to include every detail. That's the point of it being shortened. BTW, they tried to get that question changed BEFORE the vote as well.
The real issue tho is that they simply don't want it there. Plain and simple. They are just scratching and clawing trying to find any reason to kill the deal. Even if they WIN in court, it doesn't mean there is no stadium. It means the city wastes another 4-6 million to hold another election to vote on it.
NOW they are upset because the city in effect sued them to prevent them on the grounds that the signatures they were collecting weren't grounds for a revote and the process would create "doubt" by the lenders causing real financial harm. Essentially, The City sued them before they could sue the city on teh grounds that the Board should recognize the 5500 signatures for a revote.
Judging by the website, I can see how easy it is to get those signatures when you pretty much lie and misrepresent the entire situation to paint the measure i a bad light.
In the end tho, none of it matters. The stadium is going through. They're movement is dead. They just don't know it yet.
