I think the plan is for May 1st, but the contract with Devcon-Turner specifies that they have to complete it by August of 2014 IF they are ABLE to start by July 1st.

IE....if they are given the opportunity to start in a timely manner, they have to finish before August 2014. If something pushes back the start date (Lawsuit, etc), then they aren't on the hook to finish it in an abbreviated window.

I took a close look at some of the Marvin diagrams vs The Stick

vs.

I'm actually wondering about the parking situation myself. Is GA allowing use of ALL of the lot on Gameday. Upon first glance of the photos, it seems like the Stick has more capacity in the general lot as well as the overflow lots for potential tailgaters.

The Santa Clara plan has more total spaces because they have contracted with local businesses for use of their parking lots and there is also a large parking Garage currently under construction across the street from the stadium.

In addition, the 49es will have full access to the Great America parking lot. Most of the games will be during Great America's offseason anyway.

Finally.....there will simply be less cars driving into the stadium to begin with. Heavy Rail Access. Light Rail Access. I personally have no intention of parking there. I'll park miles away, take Light Rail and arrive 50 feet from the stadium.

BTW....Fact sheet about the parking available.

The only thing I question tho is if that 18,000 takes into account the dirt lot. I know at the 'stick you don't get that many actual cars in there because so many people use up 2 or even 3 spots for a tent or something when they tailgate.

I don't understand why this is going to have fewer seats than candlestick doe?
To be fair, I wanted to get pics of the two sites at the exact same scale. It does "appear" that the 'stick has more parking, but remember they only use the back half of that dirt lot and that businesses will be selling parking around the SC site.

It also occurs to me looking at the 'stick how little access there is. Just one road for the most part off of one freeway. No Hotels within walking distance. No wonder the league never played a Super Bowl there.

^^possibly because of the shape of candlestick allowed more seats?

Because they want to fill it. That seems to be a perfect number to fill the stadium. It is expandable up to 75K for Super Bowls, etc.

Often sports stadiums are built with too much capacity. This is rampant in college stadiums, especially. This means that, in lieu of incredible demand, there is far more supply than demand. This means that ticket prices are forced to be lower in an attempt to sell the seats. Simply, it's harder to fill the stadium.

For any team not in NYC, 70k seats is typically the sweet spot. It allows sell outs for most games while keeping ticket prices tiered at a level the club needs for sustainability.

Basically, it's supply vs. demand. There needs to be an equilibrium.

Two thoughts on the spec sheet:

1) Holy s**t that is way more scoreboard square footage than I thought. That is a ton.

2) They basically doubled the amount of parking spaces while also increasing the likelihood of public transportation use. Basically, there will be fewer cars at the stadium (compared to Candlestick) with more spots. Winning.

Correct on both fronts. One thing I always liked about the Oakland Coloseum (for A's games and Concerts, not Raiders) was the BART access. That was awesome.

Couldn't have said it better...although I might have added Dallas to the equasion.

They also don't want the dreaded "blackouts". Its a stain on the team if it can't sell out it's tickets.
What are club seats?

i know, stupid question.

The Club seats are the seats everyone is complaining about without understanding. You know those HUGE SBL prices that everyone is looking at and claiming you need to be a corporation to afford them and that "real fans" would be priced out of the building? Those are the club seats. If you look at the picture of the stadium, they are directly below the suite stack and have access both to the stack itself, a deck behind the player bench, and an area where the players enter and leave the field. It also has larger, padded seats. Below pic kinda shows where they are....
