That roster spot can be used for extra DL, keep Jean Pierre on the roster, and Balmer can rfotate in at NT.

Excellent point. While I am a fan of Jennings at LS and Rossum as our return man, I feel that a team cannot afford to have so many specialists, especially when it comes at the expense of offensive or defensive depth. If they could get guys that actually serve as depth on offense and defense to take over these special teams areas, the team would be better off.

If it were up to me, I'd give Sheets and several other players a long look at return man to see if they could take over for Rossum. Brandon Jones has some limited return experience and actually returned quite well when given the opportunity if I recall correctly. Plus it would help him earn some of that money he's being given if he gets buried on the WR depth chart. Jason Hill has good size and speed and might have return man ability if give the chance. Arnaz Battle is also a solid return man and could still contribute to this team as the last WR on the roster and as a returner.

Very solid effort. Won't have the real answer until Game 1. I would only make a few tweaks, as I see things at this time:

3rd QB = more likely Huard, with Davis to PS for a year of learning.
4th OT = more likely Bender at LT, with Boone or Howard to PS.
6th WR = none, only 5 WR in the Raye offense, Battle could well "retire".
5th CB = Hudson stays by using Battle's roster spot
back-up OLB = M. Harris plus a veteran player not yet on the roster, Long to PS.
back-up SS = Reggie Smith beats out Jimmy Williams. Williams cut.
back-up FS - Lewis Baker beats out Curtis Taylor, Taylor to PS

Just curious jimbagg....what makes you so high on Bender?
Gore - Coffee - Sheets at RB

Norris - Robinson at FB

Robinson at Wildcat QB

Rossum or Sheets at KR.

Clayton, Zeigler, Battle in the unemployment line.

I don't think that Hill takes QB1 but it's early yet and Alex may still be nursing himself along.

But there have been many here that have gone out on the proverbial limb and stated that Alex will be gone if we get a QB in the draft.

Which we did.

Even so, Davis may not even make the 53 man roster. It would be good to keep him around but I don't see him staying on the PR, if that's how things shake out in Camp.

~Ceadder

If Davis shows he's ready to compete at the NFL level and earns a roster spot, I wouldn't doubt it all if Smith gets the ax. What you would likely have is Hill as the clear-cut starter and Huard as the clear-cut veteran backup who could come in and manage the game properly should something happen to Hill. He would also be key in mentoring both Hill and Davis.

However, if Davis is not close to being ready to take an NFL snap, he'll be hidden somehow, and the QB depth would be Hill, Smith and Huard.

What they likely won't do is go Hill, Smith and Davis....not nearly enough veteran savvy between those three.

I agree completely.

Damon Huard is not going anywhere.

You got to have a veteran QB on the roster.

Guys, do you really think the Niners can hide RJF, Taylor, and/or Davis on the practice squad? These guys are talented players and risking running any of through waivers is nuts. If you want them, you gotta find a way to get them on the final 53 man roster. IMHO, that is.

Agree 100%

Especially Nate Davis.

No way he goes to the practice squad.

Sheets is going to make the roster because he fills a need.

We've needed a speed back for a long time.

Is this what you want or do you actually see this playing out?
1.Thomas Clayton in favor of M-Rob isnt going to happen.
2. Nate Davis would not make it to the PS, he would be claimed in a minute.
3. Zac Keasey isnt PS eligible
4. You cant just replace one of if not the best LS in the NFL for a guy who never did it in college.
5 I dont believe an undrafted Barry Sims clone (has problems with speed rushers) and character issues isnt going to the PS.

And I don't think he is a better blocker than Clayton.

Jed York is a better blocker than Clayton, who is a TERRIBLE blocker.

MY THOUGHTS:
1 No way in hell Alex starts over Shaun
2 Sheets beats T. Clayton
3 Jean-Francois makes 53
4 I predict we sign a couple remaining veteran FA's....likely Sims and one of the FA rookie OLB's, or corners don't make the list.

Clayton and Ziegler are not making this team and no way do they let Jennings go. Wasn't it McKillop who long snapped anyway, not Bear?
A poor attempt, please feel free to try again!
