Uh oh, Smith didnt have a very good day. 2 for 7.
Better make it up in the afternoon practice. Hill was 6 for 7 with his longest throw being 15 yards.
Either way...Smith better not have practices like this if he wants to start.

Is it just me, or are they not even giving Hill the throws downfield? We know Hilll doesn't have the "cannon" that Smith has, but Smith is simply completing 30-40 yard passes, which I know Hill is capable of, very comfortably. I do not quite understand this. They need to give both quarterbacks the same throws.
Although maybe they are using the same plays, and Hill is just not taking attempts downfield....
It's you, Hill cannot comfortably throw a 30-40 yard pass, He can throw it but not comfortably, but it's good that he knows his limits because then he does not go off throwin 50 yard bombs that would be intercepted.
I think your mistaken. Hill can connect from 30-40 yards, as he did several times last year. The passes that he suppposedly cannot make, are the 40+ yard throws on the seam or deep post routes.
Exactly. Anyone remember the 45+ yard throw to VD against Dallas last year? If you go back to see that video, you will see that the pass was PERFECT and hit Davis in stride. great throw.
Alex can throw the 45+ yard pass better but then all the Smith supporters want him to start so that we can have 1 to 4 types of passes a game thrown better over a guy who can throw 14 to 18 types of passes better?
It all comes down to the fact that Hill only lacks one ability and that's the 45+ yard pass whereas Smith lacks much more.
Yeah but in that same Cowboys game right after Manny Lawson intercepted Romo, the 9ers were inside their own 20 (i think it was the 18, i'll have to rewatch my DVR) but low and Behold Hill Throws a pick intended for B. Johnson, cuz it was a weak throw.
Don't even bring up the 2nd Rams game because that Touchdown that Josh Morgan caught was meant for J. Hill.
What's your point on this??
That his arm is weak which is what we have been discussing...
and in the rams game he looked horrible.
It was still a 48 yard pass. And actually Hill looked terrible in the first three quarters. I've always looked at things as "It doesn't matter how you start, what matters is how you end it", Hill threw two TD passes in the 4th quarter and that's all that matters.
Yeah but he does not throw the deep ball comfortably, that was the main point of our discussion earlier. And in the Fourth Quarter that pass was intended for J.Hill. So i have nothing against Hill and If he wins the QB comp i will fully support him, but i think that Smith brings us the Big play opportunity more than Hill. So we shall see.

I think he means that if the pass was intended for Hill, it was short.

Haha. Oh well one bad practice. No big deal. You cant make too much out of one bad practice just like you cant make too much out of one good practice.
Honestly, I'm over the practices to be honest. I just want to see these guys play a live game. We wont know the real deal until 8/14.

I read Borrows blog about today's practice and he said that the defense was making a lot of plays. A lot of Smith's throws were broken up by the defense making great plays. You can either take that as Smith making bad reads or the defense making great reads.

I am not sure what play he is talking about off the top of my head but my guess would be that you could tell based on the way the ball was thrown.
