---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course I am biased in favor of Hill,he has been the hugely better QB over anything smith ever did. Hill is the superior QB,no doubt by 95 % of all fans. If Smith comes on strong and shows some skill for the first time, then I will be biased towards him, lol.

I see one guy stink (when healthy)and one guy play really well (even when he has a broken finger on his throwing hand),with the same O line and the same OC's and the same WR's etc . If you are not biased in favor of the QB who performs so much better than the other guy, then you must be nuts and why should anyone take you seriously?

And I agree that some of the comments coming out of camp (the incident of Sing taking charge of Smith's huddle, and the incident of Sing yelling at smith to get rid of the ball etc etc ) are little things and as I said they would not even be a big deal if it were not for the fact that Smith has a history of having those things be a couple of the main things that keep him from playing well.
His weak points are accuracy and slow decision making and slow delievery of the ball and lack of leadership ,to only mention a few. The leadership angle of him needing Sing to step in ALEX'S huddle and take over to get things straightened out is HUGE and the yelling about not releasing the ball quickly is HUGE,because of Smith's history of him stinking in those areas of his game . Hill is a clear leader (according to all)and gets rid of the ball quickly,so if sing did that to hill(he didn't need to by the way because Hill is a leader etc), it would not be the red flag it is for smith.

OK,so maybe I am reading too much into a couple of incidents and the fact that Smith stunk up the practice this afternoon ,while Hill shined again. So sue me,lol.

If Smith plays really well in preseason I will be the first to praise him. IF !

exactly, I think we all read the deal about MS COACHING SMITH to get rid of the ball faster. But this supposed story about Smith getting the huddle taken away from him because he couldn't handle it is complete BS until a link is provided.
I did read that one or two of Alex's passes were dropped. so let's just say one more are completed, then he is 9 of 14 which seems nice, but then again i dont stress too much on these stats from camp as long as we bring it to the Broncos. f**k NOWIN.

OK,I did the work for you lazy guys who don't read...
From Tim Kawakami,San Jose Mercury news...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"on Saturday, Singletary stopped an 11-on-11 team drill, stepped into the offensive huddle and had a quick, animated discussion with a slightly surprised Alex Smith."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I said before ,this small incident would not even be noticed ,if not for smith's history of not being a leader. And in my eyes Smith is always "surprised" by just about everything that happens on the football field.
For Sing to step into Alex's offensive huddle and take charge and have an animated discussion (which means Sing was rather upset, for those of you who don't understand that animated discussion is a nice way of the author saying he was yelling and upset),means that smith was not doing it correctly and did not have control of his own huddle. Of course Smith was surprised,he always looks like a deer in the headlights on an NFL football field.

Now ,if Hill is reported throwing floating ducks in the next practice (instead of how well he has been tearing it up ) ,then I will also take note of that report ,because Hill has a history of having a poor arm.

See,I am nothing if not fair.

Some of you guys just can't stand the truth and I am all about the truth, wheather it tears down my guy or your guy.
And to be honest (as I always am) I don't have anyone on the team that is MY guy, they are all MY guys because I am a fan of the entire team. What some of you Smith worshipers don't like is when I am honest and fair in evaluationg him and pointing out his shortcomings . You want me only to tell about Hill's shortcomings.
I do that but there are so many fewer Hill shortcomings than smith shortcomings that you probably think I hate smith . You are wrong. I actually like smith and think hee is a great guy. He just has not played good football for the Niners yet and I tell it like it is. Sorry.
But like I said,if he does well I will be the first to be cheering for him and first to come on here and say he did well, and I will be happy about it because he is a player on MY team and I want all the players on MY team to be their best.
Go Niners.

Lol yeah I read the same thing but that doesn't mean Smith wasn't in control or that he necessrily did something wrong. Hell MS could have went in there and said "you better complete this pass or I'll bang your wife!" Doesnt mean anything.

Once again you're reaching. Seems like all of Sings speeches or coaching is "animated." Smith was "slightly surprised" because Nolan never did stuff like that. That was the whole point of that story in the article.
Ah man, I just found what Top Cat was talking about too.

"on Saturday, Singletary stopped an 11-on-11 team drill, stepped into the offensive huddle and had a quick, animated discussion with a slightly surprised Alex Smith....I cannot remember ever seeing Nolan step into any offensive huddle, have words with any offensive player or have any kind of public conversation with Smith." - kawakami

Of course camp stats don't really matter. It's how the QB's take charge of the huddle and how they run the plays crisply and read the defenses properly etc.
What matters is the stats and how the QB's perform in games. Hill having about a 20 point higher QB rating over smith in games DOES mean something. Hill being calm and cool and aware of his surroundings in games means something . Hill moving the team down field ,even when the play breaks down and he has to make something out of nothing with his feet and his mind . Hill has IT and alex has the look of a deer in the headlights.

Maybe Alex can change everything this preseason and become something he has not been since putting on a Niner uniform. I wish him luck and hope he goes to the pro bowl every year for the next 15 and wins the SB MVP every year for the next 15. I will be very happy if he just improves enough to be a good backup to hill. Anything more is just gravy and good news for all Niners fans.

I'm thinking it's going to be Smith. It's his if he becomes consistant in getting rid of the ball with short passes. Singletary wants magic. Game management is too boring for magic. Short pass reliability and consistancy, medium and long ball competency, and mobility to evade onslaught and improvise. He aint there yet, but he's moving in that direction. I say it's going to be Smith.

I told you from the start that it was only a little thing that would not have been even noted by me EXCEPT that Smith has a history of no leadership and deer in the headlights moments.

You didn't have Kawakami saying anything about Sing stepping into Hill's huddle to get things right. Or YELLING at Hill to get rid of the ball more quickly. I wonder why, lol.
Because he didn't need to do that to Hill, only to alex.

Like I said,If Sing steps in and starts yelling at Hill to stop throwing those wobbly duck passes, then I will take note of that also ,because Hill has a history of throwing ducks.

First of all Smith has been spoken of as the game manager ,mechanical type of QB,not Hill. Hill is the guy with flair and who has the intangebles and the "IT" factor.
Smith is the one who is mechanical and the game manager type.

And you did notice that hill is having a great camp (especially for a guy who never practices well but only plays lights out in games). And you did notice that Smith couldn't hit the broad side of a barn today, right. While Hill completed almost everything.

So ,since sing already stated that Hill is the starter and would remain the starter if the competition is close, how do you thing Smith is doing. Hill is outperforming him in even practice . If Smith does not out perform Hill in preseason by a WIDE,WIDE margin,He will not start. It's as simple as that !

What an overexaggeration. You do the same thing when reading the accounts. You reach.

If Hill, at 39 of 51 passes (76.5 percent) is having a "great camp", then what does that make of Alex Smith at 40 of 53 passes (75.5 percent)? By the stats, he must be having a "great camp" too right?

Combining both the morning and evening session today, Alex hit 16/24. Yup, he can't "hit the broad side of a barn today."

And I really don't see Hill more than a Chad Pennington type quarterback. But it can work. I see Smith as the guy who will be able to carry the offense on his back. That's if he can bring it together.

The only part of the post that I agree with is the last two sentences.

Fair enough brother.

That said going 8/14 (really 9/14 if it weren't for Davis) isn't "can't hit the broad side of a barn."

But I agree it wasn't Smiths best day. Although if this is a "bad day" for Smith (compared to last year especially when he seemed to struggle every day) then i'll take it.

I think Hill should start but I want Smith to get better and be the guy. It just makes more sense for the team. So as long as Smith is showing improvement I'll take it.
Was Kawakami standing in the huddle when Sing entered it?

I am having difficulty picturing Kawakami's ability to see Smith's surprised look, considering such obstructions as his helmet, other offensive players in the huddle, and Kawakami's distance from it.

Could Kawakami be stretching things a little here? Maybe.

thanks for finding the story to topcat. but at the same time i would rather see sing gettin smiths head right. everything sing does is to make our guys better. i dont see why this is any different.

i dont get the big deal. i mean its just coaching smith up, same with any other player. i mean if he had been sucking it up as bad as tc makes it sound, i think he wovldnt even be in the competition anymore. sing isnt the type to f**k around.
Not picking sides here but if it wasn't for to shovel passes, Smith would have really sucked..
