Vick was merely a suggestion as to the opportunity to add a proven talent for the most minimal of risk. I doubt he will receive more than a one year contract for the veteran’s minimum salary. And it goes without saying that he will have to work his way up from the bottom of whatever teams’ depth chart.

But with that said, as a team with one of the shakier quarterback statuses, why not throw him in the mix? What can it hurt? If he still has it he makes us better. If he sucks we cut him like we did Jimmy Williams.

Ok first off, JTO. He only won the quarterback competition because of his previous familiarity with the Martz offense. Nothing else.

You CANNOT have a 3 way quarterback competition. It just doesn't work. Nobody gets any decent reps and it stunts the offense's chemistry as a whole.

By your logic, we should go out and add every scrub quarterback because "if he still has it he makes us better". In Vick's case, he is not a pure quarterback, heck he's not even a pass first quarterback. You WILL have to completely re-design the offense around him.

Mike Vick has played 4 full seasons in the NFL. For his career he's completed 53%, never gone over 3,000 yards in a season, has a 1 to 1.4 TD/INT ratio, has been sacked 187 times, and his career rating is 75.7.

And to think Alex Smith gets lambasted after only one full season.

Michael Vick has proven, over a six season sample, that he is not going to improve. So he might run a mean wildcat. Oh joy. So we're in Division II ball now, are we?

Pathetic.

For us average Joe's who would get caught for s**t like that, we wouldn't be able to ragain our job from our former employers. While i dont care if he gets back in the League, i wouldnt want him on this team cuz im got my siberian huskies. After what i read about his confession of slamming a Mut into the ground until it died after losing a fight, i lost all respect for that motherf**ker. I hope he gets hit so hard that he loses his vision. Payback is a b***h. No jk dont wish that upon him, but he deserves it.

Couldn't agree more. Vick will get what his almighty has coming to him.

Dude, there was nothing wrong with JTO winning the job based on his previous familiarity with Martz's offense alone but it was also b/c he outplayed Hill and Smith so don't let your selective amnesia allow you to forget that.

Regardless of the ultimate outcome of his performance, JTO also proved to be far more physically gifted than Hill or Smith and that dates back to early last season when a lot of fans were saying the same thing. Again, that pesky selective amnesia always seems to get in the way.

???

He outplayed them BECAUSE of his familiarity. I didn't say that there was anything wrong with JTO winning the competition. He deserved to win it, Hill and Smith both looked lost.

Being physically gifted didn't really help out JTO a whole lot did it now?

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion. And understanding a culture outside of yours or being big enough to forgive a man that you do not personally know appears to be beyond your comprehension. But, to suggest that he received some form of privilege or suggesting that he should be injured demonstrates nothing but supreme ignorance.

And for anyone to make an argument that Smith or Hill are better QBs than he is takes homerism to a different level. I don't care what stat you use to support your position, the only one that really counts is wins and he nearly has more wins in a single season than both have together through out their entire careers...combined.

He has the ability to make all of you who question his ability eat your words one letter at a time. But you can put your money on this...if he joins this team, his presence alone will make this team a contender and produce national attention that at the end of the day will be vastly more positive than the negativity conveyed by those of you who will become closet fans. When you see the difference that a real qb makes on this team, you will continue to hate because it is your minnow mind nature (AKA Hater); but eventually you will cheer him on; even if occurs in the closet.

On the opposite side, if he joins the Rams or Seattle, he will be a formidable obstacle towards making the play-offs and your hate will be multiplied upon him demonstrating the opposite of your opinions. At that point though, your hate is misdirected. Instead of hating the man who has turned his life around and made his team better; you should be hating the hater in you.

Wow Im convinced that people who pay attention to stats really never played the game AT ALL. Stats dont mean s**t! Look at Drew Brees. He is a baller....but they cant even make the playoffs! Vick made the playoffs and no he did not have stellar team across the board. He did more with LESS! But people cant see that because he is not WHITE.

Alex Leaf is garbage. He has no nuts on the field. He plays like a scared b***h. Vick not Improve? Well damn he made it to the NFC championship game with a so so line and NO RECEIVERS!! He was one step away from the friggin super bowl. Put
Alex Leaf on the same team and he will still suck ass.

The discussion of Vick is still on because he is finally free. Even though the 49ers said no, it can turn into a yes when Goodell decides. Vick we could pick up for cheap. Vince Young for Alex Leaf straight up I would love because of the youth, but Vick has the experience and has at least 7 years left in him.

Bottom line the 49ers need a QB. Shaun Hill is very serviceable but cant get us over the hump, unless we have the defense of the 2000 Ravens.
Mike Vick = Rick Williams

Tons of talent wasted with horrible character. It's a damn shame.....

Maybe he can make a comeback. I strongly doubt it will happen. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Some of the posters around here are just flat-out nuts.

Really? Because we want to win? I know your the frigid straight and narrow type(that probably has a few graveyards in the closet) but fact is Vick is a winner. He did more with less. Nobody is saying he is the greatest QB alive, but compared to what we have yes he is light years ahead of the QB's we have. If Micheal Irvin says he was 10 steps ahead when he went to jail and maybe 3 steps ahead now in athleticism now after he is out, well I have to go with him. Screw the fact that he was a cowboy, he was a great player and great players can point out other great ones.

But most of you people supported Nolan and loved throwing that gay Rollin with Nolan slogan around. Ok lets have choir boys on our team and dont win s**t. But hey their character is great

Uhm....Not an accurate comparison. I see what you are saying though, both have talent that has been derailed. (Other than the situation where Williams got into it with an officer who all witnesses say was out of order, I don't recall him demonstrating bad character) But, R. Williams has not achieved 1/10th of the success that Vick has. Why do you strongly doubt it?

From what I understand Williams defiantly had his character issues. He failed several drug tests in the past which cost him. I'm not trying to say I have a crystal ball and be certain that Vick can't make a comeback but being out of the league for 2 seasons considerably puts him behind the 8-ball. I think he'll be lucky to get reinstated before the end of training camp which again puts him at a large disadvantage. I see what you mean as Vick is more accomplished. My comparison on Vick and Williams is solely based on HOF talent that hasn't been achieved.
Are you out of your minds??? Vick??? Montana and Young are not even deceased yet... Walsh just gone... and you'd have them rolling over in their graves? Have you no pride and dignity left in SF that you'd bring in the felon-convict slime that is Vick??? Horrible... should be shot in the head to even consider it.

WTF? How dare you use Walsh, Montana or Young to disguise your pathetic posturing.
