Right. With two in the first round, the team can get almost anything it needs next year.

The way I see it is Micheal Vick has served his time and deserves another chance. First, Singletary is a no nosense coach who would keep Mike in line. Second, a move across the country would be the perfect place for Mike to start over. Third and most of all we have two backup Qb's who give us no chance of making the playoff's. So it's real simple if we want to make the playoffs, Vick is our best chance.
I strongly disagree with you there!
I am surprised you feel that way, you are one of the most level headed posters on this site, I would like to hear your feelings on Vick. I am sure you beleive he deserves another chance.
In my honest opinion, yes I do think Michael Vick should get another chance, but not with the San Francisco 49ers! Why bring all of that baggage and negative attention to our team? Do you really think we would be better with Michael Vick? I highly doubt he is in playing condition. He hasn't played in the NFL (or even been working out at the same level) for 2 years! Besides, GM Scot McCloughan and HC Mike Singletary are not in a safe position to take such a bold risk on Vick. A decision like that could cost them their jobs.
If it were up to me, I would stay far away from Michael Vick. I don't think he is any better than the QBs we currently have on our roster. We cannot even be guaranteed that Vick can still play at the same level as before!?? He is just as inconsistant as what we already have. I would rather have Shaun Hill or Alex Smith under center this season. (And YES, I am still an Alex Smith supporter.) Before his injury, Alex was really beginning to turn the corner in his career. I am excited to see him get a second oppertunity and I do think we will see him make a vast improvement. As fans, I still don't understand why some of the Webzone members don't want to see Alex succeed? If he can rebuild his career, it will make our team that much better!
I would be highly pissed off if Michael Vick got his second chance as a 49er over Alex Smith. Alex has shown nothing, but class and dignity throughout his whole career. Both Alex and Shaun bring more to this team than Vick in both leadership and physical ability.
It was also revealed earlier that Vick met with Roger Goodell today regarding his reinstatement. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that as early as next week, Commissioner Goodell will offer a "conditional reinstatement" to Vick back into the NFL. Vick is also expected to be suspended for the first 4 weeks of the 2009 season as part of the terms of his reinstatement. After further examination, Is signing Michael Vick really worth it?

I don't think so!
Sorry, you have lost your mind if you think that Shaun or Alex brings more talent and leadership than Vick. Vick has more physical attributes in his baby toe than the both of them together and has more experience.
Apparently you don't know many people who have been released from incarceration. He is very likely in the best shape of his professional career. He has not taken a hit in two years and has probably been working out religiously. And although I do give Shaun and Alex credit for facing adversity; they have never faced the level of adversity that Vick has. If there was only one choice between the three; I guarantee you that every team on the planet would select Vick over a career back up and often injured unproven commodity.
And to say that his play-off victories occurred only because of his ability to run ignores the fact that their first touchdown against Green Bay was a pass:
1st Quarter
ATL TD SHAWN JEFFERSON 10 YD PASS FROM MICHAEL VICK (JAY FEELY KICK), 5:43
Drive: 10 plays, 76 yards in 5:43
Key Plays:
McCord 18-yard run to Atlanta 43
Vick 17-yard pass to Dunn to Green Bay 40
Dunn 12-yard run to Green Bay 28
Vick 4-yard run on 3rd-and-2 to Green Bay 16
ATLANTA 7-0
ATL TD ARTIE ULMER 1 YD RETURN OF BLOCKED PUNT (JAY FEELY KICK), 8:22
ATLANTA 14-0
2nd Quarter
ATL TD T.J. DUCKETT 6 YD RUN (JAY FEELY KICK), 2:54
Drive: 4 plays, 21 yards in 2:30
Key Plays:
Layne recovery of Williams muffed punt at Green Bay 21
Vick 9-yard pass to Dunn to Green Bay 22
Vick 9-yard pass to Crumpler to Green Bay 13
Duckett 7-yard run on 3rd-and-1 to Green Bay 6
ATLANTA 21-0
ATL FG JAY FEELY 22 YD, 15:00
Drive: 16 plays, 90 yards in 6:34
Key Plays:
Duckett 13-yard run to Atlanta 18
Dunn 21-yard run to Atlanta 39
Vick 12-yard run to Green Bay 46
Vick 11-yard run on 3rd-and-3 to Green Bay 28
Duckett 15-yard run to Green Bay 13
Vick 6-yard pass to Finneran on 3rd-and-4 to Green Bay 1
ATLANTA 24-0
I meant at this point. We don't even know what kind of physical condition Michael Vick is in? I would bet that he's not in the best shape of his career. Atleast not football shape I mean. I doubt he can perform at his previous level. Are you telling me that you would want Michael Vick on this team? (Even with all his off the field issues and negative press that it would bring.) That is the exact opposite of what Coach Singletary would want on this team! I don't want that on my 49ers.
My friend, the prospect of negative coverage is being exaggerated at this point and if he is on the team, he will have tremendous support from fans, teammates, other players and even PETA. He may not have his wind, but he certainly in tip top shape. His makeup is exactly what Sing wants; a tremendous talent with something to prove at a position that needs an upgrade. Until they bring in someone of his talent to compete; there has not been a competition using the same players used over the past coupe of years.
People tend to downplay his passing ability because of his play making ability. With this coaching staff and the level of talent at skill positions (something he has never had), he would automatically make this team a contender. There is no one in the upcoming draft or available who can have the impact on this team as he could and this is a one shot opportunity to answer the qb question for the next few years.
Shaun stays but at this point, I do not know about Alex. As Sing says; he has to perform during a game and if he does, this team could be set at the QB position for the next decade.

I would go as far as to say that Alex Smith has more upside at this point than Mike Vick. Alex has been the "team first" guy thoughout his career. Arguably, he has all of the physical tools needed to be the franchise QB the 49ers envisioned. I think his biggest problem is that Alex needs to overcome his mental confidence issues. If he can do that, and just have fun again playing football, I believe he can turn around his career.

Found this on yahoo sports.... not too shabby of an article. And those that know me, know who i´m in favor of, but once again it´s just funny at some of the published articles about our franchise. So take it with a grain of salt probably, but hey instead of making up stuff to talk about at least, its an actual article bout some of the hype...
That leaves Frank Gore and Shaun Hill as your beacons of immediate hope. Gore, again, as good as he is, has always been that good, and the 49ers have still managed to be awful with him. And I'm not among those who buy that Shaun Hill is the answer at quarterback. He's still Shaun Hill.
I offer two things as evidence: One, he's currently locked in a quarterback battle with Alex Smith. Can you name another good quarterback in the NFL who would not, at this point, already be named the starter in favor of Alex Smith? And two, if the 49ers though Hill was the answer, would they have made such a massive effort to lure Kurt Warner(notes)?
and for those that do back hill, without bias i do say the same thing. those that say hill should be this or that because of this, its just the what you see is what you get. And that also speaks a little for alex as well. maybe not in the light that some of his backers including myself may want, but hey, the kid may surprise some this year. Either way 4 days to the actual competition and i cant wait

Some of the posters around here are just flat-out nuts.
If Garcia and Antonio Bryant were cut right after being arrested for a DUI, I would think the York's wouldn't want Vick on the team either after his incident.

1. Vick is slime
2. Vick is a below average passer
3. Vick, if even reinstated, will miss too much TC/preseason to be useful to any team
4. Vick, at this point, is not any better than the Alex or Shaun
5. Vick would be a disaster for SF
Wow. Thats some blind love for a bust in Alex Leaf. Anybody can see Vick has more talent in his elbow than any QB on the 49ers(not sure about Davis though he may surprise). I wonder if Vick were white if the tables would be different.
Put the Dog fighting crap away. Vick has been getting over criticized since day one. Yet he is the main reason the Falcons went to the NFC Championship without ANY receivers. He had a friggin TE that can catch and that was it.
Not just Vick but ANY black QB there always something negative to say. McNabb is by far an Elite QB yet gets dogged alot. Yet another QB who has no receivers and continued to make it to NFC championship games. Funny thing when he did get a solid receiver he went to the superbowl.
Yet you have people on here loving Alex Leaf and want to give him 20 billion chances for what? Potential that he cant relay on field? Because he is such a nice guy? I wonder if we had McNabb and he had the same situation Alex Leaf had. You all would call him a bust and that would be end of story.
Fact is we have a garbage QB in Leaf and any chance of upgrading the QB position would be the best thing for a team. That is all we are missing is a QB. Shaun Hill definitely serviceable and would be my #1 back up any day. If we can get Vick, take him.
I do not want anyone making decisions on my team that cannot make good decisions in life, and that is Vick to a T.He has a history of doing stupid things going all the way back to his college days.Even after it came to light he was financing a dog fighting ring,he was cocky and arrogant and thought he was gonna walk. You remember the clip of him walking through the airport where he said"No matter what I do,people are always gonna love Mike Vick"?That shows what kind of person the jackass is.To be fair it is probably more the fault of the people that raised him and covered for him when he f**ked up just because he was an athlete.I bet it was a shock when he was held accountable for his actions for the first time in his life.To even mention Vick in the same sentence with McNabb is an insult to one of the better QB's playing today.Vick is nowhere near the QB that Mcnabb is,and your trying to compare the two is ludicrous. You can have your criminal,I would rather have either of the QB's we will end up with over him even if he wasn't a convicted felon. You can call Smith a bust all you want(right or wrong is yet to be determined),but Vick is a bust in the more important game of life.He had it all handed to him on a silver platter and the moron threw it away to fight dogs.He is too stupid to be a niner, plain and simple.Your support of him speaks none to well of you yourself,or your knowledge of the game.
Who anointed you the judge of moral righteousness?
So yes, he made a bonehead decision to fight dogs. The man has paid his debt to society and in the eyes of the law is now as free as you or I.
I guess one who fights dogs is that much different from the several duck, deer or fish killers who permeate the NFL and our society. Just ask PETA if they see any difference between those.
My support of Michael Vick does reflect upon my character. It reflects that I am willing to forgive a man for fighting dogs and give him a second chance to redeem himself. It reflects that I am not willing to keep a personal vendetta against a man for something that has not personally caused me, nor any other man for that fact, any harm. Pardon me for not wishing failure upon a one time convicted felon (newsflash: he’s not the only one time felon in the NFL). However, as to your unwavering support for two QB’s who have never as much as led our team to a wild card appearance, that clearly reflects upon your knowledge of the game.
Well being that he is from Memphis should tell you that you wont reach him. They are kind of backwards over there. But being that he is a Moral righteous man, my question is why even be a 49ers fan? Its no secret that the Debartalo's are mafia connected. Lets face it, Mafia did worse than things than dog fighting. Eddie Jr. got busted for fraud and correction. But I love football, not the personal lifestyles of people.
And I guess Coach Sing is immoral for even entertaining the thought of getting Vick. My point was not about the character of Vick. It was about how Black QB's are over scrutinized as players even when they are good and non talented players like Alex Leaf gets all these heart felt excuse and excuse articles. But that probably flew over you head also.
Anyways training camp will start next week cant wait til the season. Waiting on my tickets for the game opener against AZ. Hill will definitely be the starter barring injuries.
Where I am from has nothing to do with my opinion of Vick and your statement alluding to that shows just how backwards you are.I have nothing against black QB's,McNabb is one of the best in the business and I was a fan of McNair as well.I agree that they are over scrutinized,McNabb doesn't deserve the scrutiny he unfairly gets, especially from his hometown crowd.I am to this day still pissed off at Eddie D for getting himself involved with the mess he did,I blame him more than anyone else for the downfall of the team I love.I guess you are smarter than the people running this team if you are so sure that Smith is untalented. You will just have to excuse me for not wanting a no class punk like Vick on my team,I guess being backwards to you means I have higher standards than you.As for being righteous,I am far from that, but I know a dumbass when I see one,and Micheal Vick is exactly that.If you think that what he did is no big deal, that is your opinion.I have no problem with the guy playing in the NFL if any team out there wants him,he has paid his debt to society.I just do not want him on this team, and neither do any of the people that matter. The only thing that went over my head is why someone that supposedly loves the Niners would want that jackass on the team.So you can take your 70% warning and backwards ideals and shove em where the sun don't shine.

Right on Memphis9er....
f**k that Dog killer.
For us average Joe's who would get caught for s**t like that, we wouldn't be able to ragain our job from our former employers. While i dont care if he gets back in the League, i wouldnt want him on this team cuz im got my siberian huskies. After what i read about his confession of slamming a Mut into the ground until it died after losing a fight, i lost all respect for that motherf**ker. I hope he gets hit so hard that he loses his vision. Payback is a b***h. No jk dont wish that upon him, but he deserves it.

hate, hate, hate, hate, hate. You must be a PETA member because although Vick has spent nearly two years in the pen, even a blind man can see that his talent is far superior to that of any quarterback on our team.
Billy, you should not condone ignorance of this magnitude, you are smarter than this.Vick is nowhere near the passer that Hill is,and he had better all around talent than Hill or Smith has had to work with. You will see this year that either of our QB's are better passers than Vick.Mike Vick is a has been and was overrated and over hyped.Even if you throw out his history of stupid decisions, his negatives far outweigh anything he could bring to the team we love.

Vick is just a RB that can get a ball in the general are of a WR. He is run first pass second.

You all act as if the QB position is not an issue for our team. I am also hopeful that the best pans out with one of our current quarterbacks. But are you all really that confident in two guys who were beat out by J.T. O’Sullivan at any point in history?
Vick was merely a suggestion as to the opportunity to add a proven talent for the most minimal of risk. I doubt he will receive more than a one year contract for the veteran’s minimum salary. And it goes without saying that he will have to work his way up from the bottom of whatever teams’ depth chart.
But with that said, as a team with one of the shakier quarterback statuses, why not throw him in the mix? What can it hurt? If he still has it he makes us better. If he sucks we cut him like we did Jimmy Williams.
