dude, the guy sucks man. who have you been watching?

Also...what is even better is that Shaun has put us in situations where we ARE NOT in many 3rd and long situations in the first place.

give it a rest people.

Thank you!
I can't wait until training camp!

I think by "ability" he means that Smith is faster, quicker, taller and has a much stronger arm, all of which is true. It's a very interesting situation to me. Hill has performed better, but Smith should have been better and still could be. I'm more comfortable with Hill, but more intrigued by Smith.

and you know i agree. I´m not a big fan of hill, however he has won games for us and i give a brotha his credit, and he does seem like the safer pick for now. With smith, i just say to all the nay sayers, some of his main problems that people have adressed over his career may finally be behind him, and yes it is fact because even hill, and scotty, and both matts, and nfl writers, and espn writers, say smith has shown a little of that fire, not too many over throws, a better zip, actually making the right passes, etc. Now once again of course it´s OTA´s or what have you, however, to now show the skills that many claim he never had puts us into the area of uncertainty. And i honestly believe thats why sing wants the competition and the 49ers want to give him every opportunity to show he can be the qb they need. I mean in my opinion, like it or not we know what we have in hill, not a knock, just know. There is no uncertainty, as a recent article pointed out, and i dont care about a weak arm or that bs, it just is what it is, like it or not. But if Smith finally shows what he never has, like the kid or not, how can you not want to see if he can be what we need at the position. To me thats just plain hate because of a personal bias, not whats best for the team. you dont just say hey he´s the safer pick, but if you have someone that has just a little more moxy, then why not give the guy a shot. So i say like most i cant wait till the competition and may the better man win.

Hill did well last year. What do you think a healthy Smith would have done behind that line last year? Would he have struggled? Maybe. If you look back over his career, he has been improving each year. Last year Hill had a line. Alex has never had a line for a whole season. Alex may not start initially, but I think ultimately he will be the QB this year and he will lead us to the playoffs. In the past, I have said that the 49ers made a huge mistake with Alex because he hasn't shown anything. Steve Young didn't show anything in Tampa Bay with no O-Line either. Give Smith an O-Line and a stable coach and some targets then I think he will remind people of Big Ben in Pitt.

Alright then. You are obviously a better judge here. You tell us. Which of the two QB's competing for the starting position is taller, faster, quicker and which one has the better arm? Now, if you want to pose a different set of questions - who's the better improviser, game manager, etc. you might get a different answer.

Ability doesn't mean jack diddly if you can't win.... If we praised quarterbacks in the league for their physical attributes and ability, JaMarcus Russell would be the best QB in the NFL right now.

I agree. Again, the reason I find this competition interesting is that Smith has all the physical tools and Hill has all the intangibles. I don't think I've ever seen such a stark comparison that makes that much sense between two QB's.

And Jeff George would be in the HOF.
Jeff George - one of the greatest arms ever on one of the biggest a-holes ever.
