That's exactly it. Davis looked like the for real deal. I was very impressed even though he played the 2nd half of the game. BTW, he was allowed to play the whole 2nd half of the game.

We're talking about a 5th round QB...

What's your point? Joe Montana was a 3rd round draft choice and is considered one of the greatest to ever play the game.

My point is you're getting hyped up over one preseason game that was performed by a 5th round QB. What i'm trying to say is don't look to much into it.

It's not an indication of any "real deal" until he plays consistently. This happens every year.

Meet Nate Davis, the new Thomas Clayton.

I have to admit though, Davis looked very natural in the pocket and delivers a very catchable ball. You get the sense that if they bring him along slowly this year (and he's able to absorb the playbook), he could definitely challenge for the starting role next year.

Ok I agree Nate Davis was encouraging and it might be hard to slide him onto the practice squad if this continues. What I liked was even though it was against scrubs and a vanilla defense he threw accurate passes with a nice touch. At least he is very intriguing at this point.

GoFD74 ------ I have always liked the way you see things , you keep it real.

I watch 49er games and come to this forum to maintain my hyped-ness.
It seems like whenever the d-line puts on pressure, Alex always runs to his right and throws the ball to the right sideline. I feel like he is ALWAYS doing this instead of stepping up in the pocket. What do you guys think?

PSSSSSST ------ Don't sell the farm after just one game.

Davis is intriguing.
He did noticeably better tonight, he stepped up in the pocket and made the right reads. His receivers let him down tonight though, 3 drops by my count. He also had two throw aways to prevent sacks. All in all, Smith outplayed Hill tonight, not something I expected to happen.

I have got to go with you on that observation and I was surprized too.

Besides the VD drop, the others were very inaccurate throws (typical Smith). Hill may not have been on top of his game tonight, but at-least he took a couple shots deep...
Sounds like they are making an assumption but..

I think Hill has outplayed Smith but I still want Smith to start. He has more upside. Hill is a gamer but he has so little talent, it's painful sometimes watching him throw those floating, wobbly ducks. I mean, it seems he can't zip the ball between defenders with that arm. Alex and even Nate Davis can. I know Alex hasn't looked good but it's not entirely his fault. The race is so even at this point, what's the point of going with the older guy with less upside? Just my take. If Hill wins the starting job(which I think he will) I'll support him.
I too would like Smith to start, especially based on what I saw yesterday though I would be happy with either of them under center. Why does Alex throw so many passes that are dropped though? I thought I was having a flashback to the 2007 season when Alex threw the interception, maybe he just needs to get the height of his balls down a little bit but I still feel like the receivers need to be able to look those kind of passes into their hands.

With a title like "Hill likely to be named 49ers' starter after Smith fails to impress", yes I agree that it is an assumption!
