Hill should have started, terrible decision to bench him which in fact threw off his rhythm today.
thats an excuse and you know it.
What's a catchy name to call an excuse for Hill?

Double standards...Hillexcuses...Hillpologies?
Seriously, if Hill doesn't step it up we are screwed, Smith's numbers weren't pretty but the wr's dropped 2-3 passes and he threw away 2 to prevent sacks. Hill looked like a career back up tonight, he seems to have regressed. I say we let Hill start,if he sucks it up, put Smith in. Smith at least has shown some improvement in what were his problems. I think Smiths biggest problem was that Nolan and Hostler didn't know how to develop a QB. Seems like QB's weren't the only thing either, come to think of it.
I like Hillpologies.
I think both quarterbacks have to be disappointed in themselves. Either one of them could have made a big case to start had they had a strong outing. I thought Smith looked better than last time although that's not saying much.
I hope Hill picks his game up. To his credit, he has shown a knack of being able to rebound.
Till Dallas....

Me too, I also hope Smith continues to knock the rust off his game. He is not as bad as the knee jerk reactionary crowd make him out to be, he just hasn't played ball in 18 months or so. Kolohe posted earlier that he thinks Hill should start and Smith should work his way back up to speed, I think that might be the best scenario, if Hill can pull it together that is. I think our current coaching staff knows how to develop players better than Nolans did, so I am not going to give up on Smith until his contract is up and he still hasn't won the starting job back.

Agreed Kolohe, the backs stole the show tonight. Most impressive play by a QB tonight was the hard block by Smith.
That was a pretty sick block from Smith, everyone at my house was like....
Daaaayyyyyuuummmmm....

The best role Chris Tucker ever had, or ever will have. Damn good movie too.

I believe Alex Smith will be traded for a draft choice or a pass rusher to a team in need of a young quarterback. That would leave Huard as a decent backup to Hill and Nate Davis as possible future starting QB.
No way management will allow Davis to be snapped up by another team while hoping he'll slip by to the practice squad. I'd like to see Nate play with the 1st team for a few snaps.
LOL keep smokin buddy
Better yet, pass it round, cause it must be the chronic.

Wow... this post is stupid
Do you believe this post is stupid because you didn't post it or because you disagree with something or what?
Its stupid for several reasons. 1st, He played backups and scrubs... maybe if he threw for 200 yards and 2 TDs I would say give him a shot to start a preseason game, but he didnt, he went 6-11 for 60 yards and a TD.
2nd, who would give us a pass rusher better than what we already have for smith??? This isnt madden dude. Pass rushers are MONEY, Alex Smith is NOT money!
3rd, you are basing this off ONE preseason performance. Leave it to the coaching staff to pick the QB line-up. Basing decisions from the couch is useless.
Dude, that's the whole point of this message board.
well... i mean these type of decisions. Preseason is difficult because CBS/FOX/NFL/ESPN only show 1/3 of whats really going on the field. You need tape...
Teasing. You're right, you can't make any snap decisions based on one good game played by Davis. That said, he did look good....probably to good now to try and put on the practice squad, but he's a long way off from being a legit #2 QB. On this we agree.
Agreed. Definitely a long way off from being a legit #2 QB. That's why Huard would be in good position behind the starter. Nate Davis should not waste needed opportunities by being 4th in line.
I'd like to see Davis play a few snaps with the 1st team merely to see how he handles it.
I'm no Smith fan, but I'd rather see him as the #2 than a journeyman like Huard (who at this stage of his career, is a #3 at best). I'd also like to see what Davis looks like with the first team, but that's not likely to happen.
I think they'll go with Hill, Smith and Davis (and keep Huard's phone number close in the event of an injury).
I'm not for or against Alex as a person or player. I'm for what's best for the 49er organization. I see your point on what will likely take place with the probable release of Huard. Definitely can't take chance of losing our rookie QB.
I'm also feeling that Mike Singletary would not be content with Alex's lack of poise under pressure.

I have a feeling that he was even less happy with Hills performance tonight. Smith has been out of football for 18 months, there was no excuse for Hill tonight. Smith looked better this week than last, he stood in the pocket and delivered the ball, there were three drops that should have been catches and two passes thrown away to prevent sacks. Either way, neither showed me much tonight. No way that Smith is going anywhere this year or probably next year, Huard is the one that gets the axe this year.

I have to admit though, Davis looked very natural in the pocket and delivers a very catchable ball. You get the sense that if they bring him along slowly this year (and he's able to absorb the playbook), he could definitely challenge for the starting role next year.

That's exactly it. Davis looked like the for real deal. I was very impressed even though he played the 2nd half of the game. BTW, he was allowed to play the whole 2nd half of the game.

I agree here! I have been and will continue to root for A. Smith, but I am also rooting for S. Hill. I have seen very little of Davis (he looked pretty decent tonite though)!
I must say, however, the A. Smith Haters are WAAAYYYYY overboard. If anyone who watched the game tonight thinks that the INT was Smith's fault, they are, either, pure Alex Smith Haters, or just plain dumb.
Really, we have 2 QB's. Neither is Montana, Young, or Brodie. They are what they are, and that is what we have. There is a chance that our new guy, Davis, could be good in the future. There is also a chance that Hill or Smith could develop into a serviceable QB that is capable of running the offense. Why spend your time bashing these dudes? One or the other is going to be leading our team on offense.
Either be a fan or root for the silver and black!

We're talking about a 5th round QB...

What's your point? Joe Montana was a 3rd round draft choice and is considered one of the greatest to ever play the game.
