If it was a choice between Davis and Smith? Yeah, I'd keep Davis.

To say that we'd get ANYTHING at all out of Smith in a trade is just stupid.

Smiths good enough to be our 4th QB, if we kept 3 I'd keep Hill, Huard (Huard > Smith) and Davis tho. No need for a locked thread.

Davis looked mostly ok, but he's nowhere near ready to make any significant contributions just yet. Smith is looking like a below average backup QB.

Smith is on his way out. He has done nothing but shown he's unfortunately a bust for this team. Maybe he'll fare better with a different team. The team drafted a quarterback this off season. If Smith can't handle the job then put the new drafted guy in position to succeed. Why not?

I seriously doubt Smith gets traded, but not because we wouldn't want to...it's that nobody is that dumb to give anything up for him.

Smith-hating aside, Davis looked pretty decent for his first real NFL action (didn't throw a pass last game). That said, I wouldn't go moving him up the charts just yet. If he plays well in the 3rd and 4th games, ok, worth considering...but not after 1 game.

In an article by barrows he says he thought smith played better. of course neither guy looked good obviously but still... the tackle and the block by smith was nice but those arent exactly qb skills. he looked good in the pocket though, didnt take sacks, and got the ball there. a few of those passes need to be softer throws and more catchable. the numbers dont tell the whole story.

im fine if hill starts based on last season but he has looked just as crappy as smith has in the preseason, if not worse, and come gametime he better play like he did last year or we wont have many wins. even if he isnt named the regular season starter hell probably start the cowboys game amd he needs to play well.

Its stupid for several reasons. 1st, He played backups and scrubs... maybe if he threw for 200 yards and 2 TDs I would say give him a shot to start a preseason game, but he didnt, he went 6-11 for 60 yards and a TD.

2nd, who would give us a pass rusher better than what we already have for smith??? This isnt madden dude. Pass rushers are MONEY, Alex Smith is NOT money!

3rd, you are basing this off ONE preseason performance. Leave it to the coaching staff to pick the QB line-up. Basing decisions from the couch is useless.

You make an assumption that a team wants Smith, and is willing to give up a draft choice/pass rusher for him. Perhaps we can trade him and get our 1st overall back.
Also, Nate Davis is virtually a consensus project quarterback. Why rush him into things? You're heralding Nate Davis as the the next starting quarterback, based on what, exactly? 6 completions?
