bingo
When year after year every receiver Smith throws to can't seem to catch the ball, then its time to admit that Smith just can't throw a catch-able ball. Hill and Alex pushed today, which still gives Hill the starting job by far. Hill is the champ because he's the only one that has won here, Smith has to do a hell of a lot better than he has to knock off the champ.

ESPN:

Hill to be officially named starter after Smith fails to impress

Question to the Smith haters/Hill lovers.

If Smith is as bad as you say, why can't Hill create any separation from him in this competition?

smith didnt look good imo, but hill was just as bad and this is the 2nd week in a row he hasnt been able to put the team in the end zone. he looked awful tonight with his wobble duck throws, he missed some of the open recievers, and he took sacks. it looks to me like hes taken a step back from last year and if he plays like this in the regular season than we are f**ked. i liked hill, especially last year, but the whole reason hes supposed to start is that he can march this team down the field and into the end zone and we havent seen any of that yet.
hmm... at the bottom of the news ticker on ESPN it said according to Adam Shater's sources...he reports that Shaun Hill will be named the starter because of Alex's performance tonight........but the game just ended, wtf?

anyone else see this?

won here?

Won what? he has to play in a game of importance before you can say he's won anything?

Unfortunately for Hill, a winning record/better game play is not good enough for Niner brass. Lets be honest with each other. If Hill's record, passing percentage, ability to sustain drives, etc. were ALL part of Alex's game, this "competition" for starter wouldnt even exist. Deep down inside, we'd all like to believe that Alex Smith is the chosen one. Unfortunately, he hasnt panned out, no matter how many chances we've given him.

Im not saying Hill is the next Montana, but he is LEAGUES better than Smith at this point.

I think some of you Smith lovers/Hill haters need to get over it..........

maybe Hill is just one of those guys to plays up to his compition....or in this case down to his compition.

but seriously I don't understand why they took Alex out that early.....I wanted to see more of him.

and I didn't really like the idea of Shaun who has proved that he can lead this team, come off the bench......it just seemed weird.....I mean I know he has always been a backup.....but it still seemed weird.
so im gonna say Hill is the starter
For the sake of continuity on offense, name Hill the starter early this week (like tomorrow or monday), let him get most of the practice reps, and give him a whole half if not more next week in Dallas.
I dont get it, hill looked worse than alex and everyone wants to name him the starter? i guess when youre the golden boy you can take a s**t on the field and people will jump for joy? seriously he didnt have to do anything to win this competition. he better play way better than this or we are screwed and this will be another losing season.

yeah this is the most important preseason game... Dallas will play their starters for the whole 1st half.......and we should too.

I told you that Davis had more talent in his little finger than Smith has in his whole body and that of all his realitives, lol
Wait until he matures for a year or so !!!
And don't worry that Hill looked almost as bad as Smith tonight,he has had a few poor series before and then he comes back strong to WIN.
They better not try to put Davis on the PS ! He is probably the future and we know he is the only possible Franchise QB on the roster. He is very raw,but he looked good,as he always did in college. He was the steal of the draft (if he continues to grow (very likely!)and doesn't flop like Alex ).
