No matter which side you take, I think we can all agree the Alex Smith situation was mishandled from Day 1. Nolan had no real plan of how to properly develop Alex Smith. There is no denying Alex has all of the physical ability needed to be successful, but the revolving door of OCs didn't exactly help matters.
Whatever way it plays out, it'll be fine.
Hill will do fine if he starts, and I believe Alex will too.
If Hill gets hurt, I actually would expect Alex to step in and prove himself, possibly so well that he reclaims the permanent starting position for good.
Now only if everyone on this board had this attitude, the Niner world would be a happier place!

While I take the stance of rooting for Hill, I really try to not bash Smith. However, there is a guy here at my workplace that loathes Smith, which resembles some zoners. So I asked him what the deal was, and tried to inform him that Smith is a Niner, and that it does us no good for him to fail.
He seems to be mainly coming from the point that we have paid the guy so much. He says that he originally liked the guy, even through 05, and wanted him to do well. Once Smith began to play like he did, "deer in the headlights". Then he spouts off how it took Smith, "what? 7 games and he got 1 touchdown." I brought up the talent argument, and he continually stated that is just an excuse, similar to the curse of Nolan. Basically, this guy can't stand smith any more, which as a season ticket holder, I guess you could say he may have more reason than others. He felt he was given a chance, and even in 06', he didn't really show anything that proved he was going to be a legitmate QB in the NFL.
that is all coming from one of the biggest Smith haters I know. Then I began to ask myself, why should everything around a QB need to be perfect to make it happen?

The 06 thing is what I have a problem with. I just don't see how someone (like your buddy at work) can say he didn't show signs of being a legitmate quarterback after that season. That seemed to be the overall consnsus at the time. It seems that in the last year and a half there has been a lot of revisionist history.
I've got nothing against Hill and believe he should probably be the starter when the season begins. But I feel Alex is going to get another shot down the road and I haven't given up hope that he will be up to the task.

Most of you are aware of how much I support Alex Smith. I think he is still young enough where he could rebuild his career and I think he has all of the tools to be successful. I'm just saying I wish we could all just agree to disagree and support the team instead of individual players!

Not by much. But could have been better if the recievers could have held onto a few of those throws. I really liked the way Smith stepped into the throws in the pocket.

I'm at the game. That throw by Smith should have been caught by Morgan. Wasn't a pretty pass but catchable. Raiders D looks good.

Both hill and smith look even. Raiders D and kit recievers making them look bad. Run game is what moved us down the field. I'm in section 44 row 16 if anyone is here.
