Do you honestly believe any of our four quarterbacks can lead this team well into the playoffs? If so, I'll have some of what you're having.

I believe we have 2 QBs that can Shaun Hill and Damon Huard...... see the thing is, we have talent of offense....we just need a QB that will put the ball in our playmaker hands with room to run.....just sustain drives and let our Defense rest.

Shaun Hill proved he could do this....and Huard has done this with weaker teams (talent wise) compared to the personnel on the 2009 49ers....

so yes, I believe we have some QBs that can lead this team well into the playoffs...we just have to play disciplined......and judging from the last 8 games last year...our penalties per game dropped....so a disciplined team with a good running game and a good defense should do fine in the playoffs.... I don't feel there are elite teams in the NFC anyway....maybe Chicago with Lovie coaching Cutler.....and maybe the Giants...although I feel Eli is overrated or atleast we can handle him.

Really? Hill has proven he can lead us into the playoffs in his 10 or so games? Wow. And, Huard? Really?

look if you're just going to blatantly LIE about something I posted then I'm just wasting my time responding to you.

this is what I wrote....take off your blinders

If you're going to accuse me of lying, you better make sure I did.

I asked Dirty if he felt that we had any quarterbacks that could lead this team well into the playoffs.

You responded, "I believe we have 2 QBs that can Shaun Hill and Damon Huard."

My response was questioning whether you honestly thought that either Hill or Huard could lead the team deep into the playoffs. Now, perhaps you could enlighten me on how that is a "LIE" per your assessment.

Personally, I don't think that is a "LIE" as much as it is a disagreement to your feeble assessment of our quarterbacks.

I think his fingers were working faster then his brain.

I seriously wonder what people were saying about Dilfer in preseason.

-9fA

No one will admit it, but a couple years ago when Dilfer was signed people loved the idea. He was supposed to be the steady mentor that our young QBs needed. People also loved him after a game against Arizona back in 2007. I believe he passed for 250 yards and a couple TDs. Of course everyone will now state that they always hated Dilfer and knew from the beginning that he was garbage.

The same people that are now in love with Huard will be calling for his head the first time he throws an interception. Fickle fans....

Not really. Everyone knew Dilfer sucked but he was going against Alex Smith and no one knew what Hill could do at that time.

I'm sorry fellas, but you MUST realize that Alex Smith IS THIS BAD.

For the love of God!

You've posted some pretty ridiculous things before that are clearly posted only out of your extreme hatred of Alex Smith, but this on really takes the cake.

While you are posting, Alex Smith is still trying to beat out a career 3rd stringer. There's still only a competition because Hill doesn't have a strong arm. If he had JTO arm, then it would be like last year.

And your point is? Maybe you should just step away from the keyboard until you can actually post something that isn't clouded by your hatred of Alex Smith.

To think that any of our top three quarterbacks at this point will be able to lead the team to the playoffs is laughable.

Well the haters/jock riders (or whatever ridiculous title you wanna assign them) are just a vocal minority. The truth of the matter is we have a couple of mediocre QB's, a journeyman back up, and an unproven rookie with a learning disability. Our best hope for this season is for the defense to come out and dominate along with the running attack. If one of the QB's can manage to not suck it up, we might make the playoffs, but going deep into the playoffs is not likely with any of the QB's on our roster. The majority of the fans will get behind whoever the QB is in hope that he will minimize mistakes and be able to hit the open guy. Realistically though, the playoffs are withing reach due to our division, but until we have an improvement in the starting QB situation, going more than a game or two into the playoffs would be a minor miracle.

Please do not use logic in this thread: It tends to go unnoticed to the people who really need to see it.

The most important truth is that we have a QB that is 7-3 who has shown that he can lead the offense with leadership and chemistry and we have a quarterback in Alex Smith, when healthy has done OK, but in broken sporadic spurts with little to no chemstry, leadership and continuity. THAT is the truth. The bold is not a truth, yet.

Is a ten game sample spread over two seasons a large enough to show that Hill will be effective over an entire season?

It doesn't matter. He is the most capable, from opportunities given, that we have. "You can't just dial 1-800-QB and get one." We have to go with what we got and he has shown the most capabilities of a starting QB of the ones we have.

At least he didn't go 4-6 with inconsistent play. I'm just pointing out what we have to go on.

the only thing I said Hill proved is that he can help sustain drives and move our offense.....let the playmakers make plays (with nice passes that give them the best chance to get YAC) and all the while letting our defense get much needed rest.

Joe, what do you know about truth concerning QBs? Very little it seems, you are driven by personal bias, and until Hill beats a playoff team, which Smith has done, he is just what I called him, a mediocre QB. The most important truth is your lack of objectivity on the matter. 7-3 doesn't mean anything when you look at the context of the wins and also take into account the AZ and St. Louis games where Hill looked every bit as bad as Smith ever has. We all want our team to have a great QB again, but the simple fact of the matter is that we have exactly what we have, and until that is improved upon, playoffs are possible, but going deep into them is not likely.

4-6? Are you talking about Smith? His records are as follows:

2005: 2-4 (49ers had the worst talent in the league, perhaps of all time)
2006: 7-9 (5-4 over the last 9 games)
2007: 2-1 (did not include injured games)

Those records show a positive trend up until Smith was injured. The million dollar question is whether Smith can continue the growth where he left off in 2007.

He would have never held up to the beating that the QB took because of the terrible pass blocking. He is nowhere near as tough as Smith, he would have been a bigger bust due to injury.

Wow that's a pretty biased answer if I ever seen one.

I stand by what I said, if Green Bay's oline let Rodgers get injured, how do you think he would have fared behind ours? Rodgers is nowhere near as mobile as Smith, and our line got him killed. I hate that these two were the best available when we had the #1 overall pick in such a weak draft, just s**tty luck for us.

Simply put, there is no way of proving your statement. Tell me how do you know Rodgers wouldn't of fared well behind our O-line, hes a much better efficient passer and gets the ball out faster. Rodgers in almost 100 more pass attempts than Smith in their first full year starting, Rodgers was sacked one fewer, and he didn't have nowhere near as good of a rushing game that we did in 2006.

Those records show a positive trend up until Smith was injured. The million dollar question is whether Smith can continue the growth where he left off in 2007.

No, I was just saying what if Shaun Hill went 4-6? It wouldn't have looked so good. But the "truth" is that he went 7-3 with a very good overall rating and excellent leadership continuity skills overall. You can only go by what the guy has done when he has had the opportunity. You cannot go by the time he did not play his other years in the NFL. You cannot go by what you think he may not be able to do such as take us deep into the playoffs. Trent f**king Dilfer of all people won the superbowl so this talk about not going deep into the playoffs is sad. Shaun Hill in his ten games has performed better than Trent Dilfer EVER did in that superbowl year.

Therefore, by the way our QBs have played when they have gotten the chance Hill can take us deep into the playoffs if the team as a whole plays to their capabilities.

Well if that's what you really believe, then so can Alex Smith.
