Opinion on Manny Lawson

Lawson was handled very poorly by Nolan, he tore his ACL and missed essentially an entire season due to the ACL, he was just starting to get comfortable with his knee and role towards the end of last season.

Because of Manusky he clearly understands his job (vs. Nolan messing with him) and he is healthy and confident with regards to his knee. Do I expect 10 sacks hell no but I think he can get 5-7 sacks, lots of QB pressures which will help the DL and cause a lot of disruption. If Lawson does his job you could see Parys getting 10 sacks, Justin Smith with 6-9 sacks, and Lawson 5-7 sacks. That would be very cool and will keep opposing OC up at night figuring out who they are going to double team.
Possibly. If he doesn't pan out this season for whatever reason and we bring in a WILL next year while moving Haralson to SAM how is he not a bust?

The definition of a bust is someone who doesn't pan out for you. The fact that he might be a good cover 4-3 linebacker is irrelvant to us. Then again we could slide inside like Pittsburgh did with Lawrence Timmons.
yes, if Brooks takes his spot in Preseason
Lawson was man handeled last night.

Hopefully Lawson will watch the Denver game tape, and be embarrassed with his preformance. The Denver tackle simply just throw Manny on the ground on some snaps.
A free toaster if someone can finish my thoughts...

Agree. I was very disappointed with his play last night. Trying to "juke" an OT isn't going to cut it. He stayed out wide and never effectively disrupted the pocket. Moore and Brooks looked much better rushing the QB. I believe it was Brooks that forced the throw on the Bly INT.

I don't think Lawson is going to finish the season as a starter if last night was a glimpse of his new-and-improved pass rushing skills.

How about if we have Coach Singletary finish your thoughts as Singletary openly said the Pass Rush was non-existant and not a happy camper about it.

In basic, simple, pre-season football....one guy on the whole team should be able to get at least one freak'en sack.

This is year number five of the 3-4 defense, and we've never had a pass rusher who scared anyone...in any year, ever. The closest thing was Julian Peterson, who was not 100% when he played in his final year for us.

The Niners continue to be in denial about this position.

yea so at this point what do we do to get around that? blitz more? switch back to a 4-3? give up on manny?

i like manny a lot but he looks strictly like a 4-3 backer. he gets owned by the ot nearly every single time.

khalif mitchell looks huge and looked better than franklin. i know it was against 3rd stringers but still. brooks looked better than manny also.

I'll be happy w/ enough pressure. Sacks will come automatically if you start providing pressure. We have no ability to currently pressure or sack anyone.
Are we talking 10 sacks this season...or career total?

Honestly the way things are looking, neither may happen.

I don't see how he would be labeled as a bust. He is still one of the best covering OLB in the league. Just because he isn't a sack master doesn't mean he is nonproductive

i didnt know that
