This is really his year that we should see a huge step in progress being made. just as long as he can cover the TE or RB and put pressure on the QB i'm good to go.
Willis isn't expected to get sacks
Neither was Lawson in Nolans vanilla defense...
I know. I'm actually a big Lawson fan. I think (hope) he will really excel now that his role is being simplified. I just started this for sake of discussion and to try to put something else out there that doesn't have to do with Crabtree.

exactly, and early in the season, Lawson was getting most of the sacks early in the season until teams started avoiding his side and getting sacked by Super Mario.
but this is the NFL not barley above average (ACC) college competition.....

I think 7-10 sacks will be great. Obviously the more the merrier. But I think Lawson will get nearer to 10 sacks in the year. I think the extra weight will be better for him and for us. So I see that Lawson and Harols will get 17-25 sacks between them. I think Harolson will get at least 10 and possibly more. If Harolson, Lawson, Smith play for a whole season without getting hurt, then those three will get 30 sacks.

Being a good LB involves more than just sacks; and in Lawson's case, he typically pretty good at all those other things. So at this point, he's a pretty good LB, and if he can become a serious sack threat as well, then he'll become a great LB.

Gonna have to be more than just not getting 10 sacks to be a bust.

I know Mario Williams is a pro bowler. I just remember reading an article about McCloughan saying his two ACC picks (davis and lawson) haven't met their NFL potential after 3 years....
Josh Morgan sure has though

Wow, Lawson with 10 sacks huh? I guess I can also hope that bly ends up with 8 picks. Of all of the great stats the niners can end up with, I would venture to say that Lawson getting 10 is a long shot but possible.

why, he might not be the pass rusher we hoped but he's great at other things, especially against the run, special teams and covering tight ends. he kind of reminds me of a poor mans dj williams with more potential
